Northern Rock Facepalm Racing would like to present our new team livery for the upcoming season. As we have already secured long-term financial backing from our sponsorship partners you can see that we are planning to build a legacy in F1... blah blah blah

Bernie's 'Horrible Sh*tholes of the World' racing tour (formerly known as 'F1') is proud to present it's newest stop: North Korea. They too have an F1 team. Here's their livery.

Very naughty but amazing :rotfl:

Rainbow Trout

There used to be a guy who went by the alias Rainbow Trout here and a few other forums. Utterly mad but hilarious slants on the Super-Genius Michael Schumacher and dig at Jacques Villeneuve/DC. Used to hold himself up as a beckon of moral values but proved to be anything but  . I think he was from Quebec or Canada at least.

I've updated me livers, in a conjoined effort with Jp, the results of which can be seen in the previous page.
Meanwhile to help liven up this thread a bit, I'm sharing some more General Lee tribute 2 alternative versions with you.

EDIT: Suddenly this post doesn't really make sense anymore. I'll leave it up nonetheless.

No, no it wouldn't.

I'm not sure what the current pre-occupation is with attempting to divert many threads in that direction, maybe we're just victims of a bored poster who loves to press buttons and see what reaction results. If so, these types of responses must be manna from heaven.

Nevertheless, we're making a concerted effort to keep this & other threads on topic and rest assured, Racing Comments is not the place to debate that particular era of politics.

Just wanted to clarify, that I was not suggesting the Nazi livery with any political agenda.
I find the branding used extremely striking and think the colours/logos would look good even if they didnt have the association of the 3rd Reich.

Small problem with your flag...

not really. While such association and sensitive issues coming from it do exist, that version of the flag and many variations of it featured as a motif are used as the flag for Japan's self defence force and some navy ships, as well as Asahi newspaper and fishing boats.

maybe one foot in grey zone but not exactly like that nazi symbol.

Good morning fine denizens of livery thread land...
Trust you all have had a peaceful sleep and have come back refreshed and refocused.
Nice to see the folks in charge put Humpty back together again..
Cheers for that...
Although..

We are missing the following entries..
1) CILIT BANG
2) NorthernRockFacePalm Racing
3) Bruce Forsythe car
4) Keep Calm car
All valid entries which need restoration here.

No, no it wouldn't.

:rotfl:
The comedic timing of that post ..BRILLIANT
And thanks for your defense where it mattered.

First off, reviewing each variation entirely rocks. F1 cars are not exactly all that modifiable. Your dabbling is creative.
Kudos.

I agree.

Gosh, now I'm learning things here...arigato gozaimasu muramasa-san

Nice. Very, very nice. But is it to scale?

Thanks cool beans
No, it is not to scale but her name IS Prunella.
She is a timely commentary, but you knew that.
It's actually complete crap, but was intended to be so. NONE of you should vote for it...(hint hint)
No, my entry is the one with the Mexican Whorehouse, plane wrap cigarettes & beer and the racist whiskey manufacturer, powered by Chevy

Not this can of worms again

I didn't think it was a good idea to use a military flag, regardless of what era it came from. But most people would associate it with the 'wrong' era.

I didn't think it was a good idea to use a military flag, regardless of what era it came from. But most people would associate it with the 'wrong' era.

really? there're many creations and designs using british, US, French, Germany or whatever military flag or symbol, either current, past, ancient or historical, that might not be a coolest thing of all but are no way taboo (of course except hakenkreiz). Everything depends on context and sense.

As for the radiating sun flag, that specific design has indeed been adopted as identifying military, but it was by Meiji government back in 1870s, not just for imperialism era.
Also that radiating design itself is a design motif that had existed long time, (i mean no way came out of nowhere and invented at that time just for Meiji army flag), and been used among public mostly as a background to express cerebration or whatever that is positive, good fortune and joyous. Also think about halos found in buddhism statues and drawings that are older than Japan history, they are quite identical, so such design has been quite common.
Also regarding red sun and blank white background that is Japanese flag, again that design motif, a circle (red or gold or black etc) and blank background (red, white, etc) had existed in Japan and used by various emperors and shoguns etc throughout history, and can be traced back to as early as 7th century.
So, that radiating sun thing is more a combination of the two, so it's impossible to draw a clear line. Either that radiation pattern nor the "a circle & blank background" are not military thing at all, let alone association with specific era.

examples: radiation design used for fishing to express big catch of fishes.
https://www.google.c...iBcSkkQW3u4GQCA
like this way, this radiation pattern is used to express whatever is positive, commonly and in various ways, as i said above.

Also used as self-defence force flag now
http://sokuup.net/imgs/soku_16245.jpg
the flag in this pic is it.
it has 8 beams. The "origial" 16 beams version is also used for some navy ships.

So it's very loose, it has such various and wide origins and usages, that, unlike that nazi symbol, cannot represent and be attributed to one specific thing of one specific era.

I personaly think it's completely ok to use that radiating pattern to express sth Japanese, but yea i know most people tend to associate it with imperialism Japan. I admit we lack efforts and explanation.

It's a new day, the sun is shining and the birds are chirping so as JP mentioned it earlier, I have decided to re-post some of my previous designs... not sure which are my entries at the moment, although I'm pretty sure the Facepalm team's cheque to Bernie bounced so they may not even make it to testing?

Very informative post and I agree, most of these symbols have other histories and uses, different from the sometimes negative ones that are related to them mostly from more recent history. ItĀ“s the same case with the swastika, check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika. We must be careful not to be too quick to censor certain symbols if their use serves mainly a design purpose like in the case of this thread.

Thanks to Damp Mongoose for the re-post and the added value DM-001

On to design discussion..
I recall a speech from our Japanese translator, on the way from Tokyo Shinbashi station to the Hotel Okura, about the use on GPS screens of swastikas for Buddhist temples...Fascinating cross pollination of posts for you there :D
PS..Nice work muramasa and Real Racing, thank you.

You're welcome JP, glad you like the latest one!

On the topic concerning military logos on the cars, are those Ben Sherman bags and other clothing etc with the RAF roundel considered poor taste on the same basis as a few things mentioned earlier?

But no, I'm not a big fan of RAF roundrels, or Ben Spies using the American military flight insignia on his helmet, etc.

yea actually i almost stepped in to mention swastika as well :p
totaly harmless symbol with various origins worldwide, it's about time it restored its honor, mayb esp in west.
@jonpollak yea in Japan it's used to indicate buddhist temples on maps (maybe anyone can confirm this by browsing google maps? at least google maps on my pc shows it), of course various things of buddhism, as well as inspiration for samurai family emblems and decoration pattern for kimono etc.

sorry for going off topic again, plz consider this as spice :p

You should get rid of the 'thing' in front of the HP logo. I don't know what it does and it distracts from the people paying your bills.

stops the hp circle from floating aimlessly, and cushions the junction of logo curve to vertical line at the sidepod so the whole thing visually sweeps an otherwise hard box area.

It's way too close and too complex for the HP logo. And the HP bit could probably be bigger to fill that forward area of the sidepod. Plus you'd need to use the current HP logo, and the blue disc would eliminate the need for anything else in that area of the design.

I actually like your car and could see it as a real one with a few tweaks.
