Who would be your second choice for the WDC/WCC this year?

However, realistically the absolute best I and my fellow supporters can wish for is a win or two and a couple of podiums. But this brings up a relevant question, in the WCC/WDC rankings I still have an interest even though my dearest Mercedes won't compete.
Most people I know assume I'd support McLaren then. I used to before 2010 obviously, but I have a firm policy about not going back to exes. So I do find myself hoping that Ferrari and Fernando takes it this year.
Who would you support, if your preferred driver and/or team aren't cutting it?

The way the question is written means that if your No1 choice ain't gonna win the title, then you need to root for someone who is. That means the question is really saying 'Will you support Vettel or Alonso in the title race', coz no one else is gonna get close, certainly not Massa, Grosjean, Rosberg.
Button?

If Hamilton doesn't win the WDC, I want Button to.
If McLaren doesn't win the WDC, I want Merc to (as I'm about to buy a new Merc, so they will gain some more allegiance).

most deserving - alonso
most, um, desirable?! - webber, I'd absolutely love it if he won, partly to show vettel up but mostly just because he's a top bloke, I think everybody in the paddock would be genuinely happy if that happened.

Except a certain Austrian in charge of a young driver program ..

If not Lotus GP, then Infiniti Red Bull Racing.
I know, I'm weird. But really, I love the Lotus team more than RBR, though Sebastian is by far my favourite driver.

Not really a team fan, but if not Merc than McLaren.
Webber is a great chap as well, but can't imagine him winning over Vettel.

It shouldn't be that surprising that Sebastian and Kimi fans support the other driver as well since it is a pretty well known fact that they are very good friends. In fact, back in 2007/2008 Sebastian often said he thought Kimi would win the WDC, and in 2009 I recall Kimi had posted a congratulatory message on his website for Sebastian's first win for Red Bull, stating he is a "very nice guy".

My first choice would be Webber. But let's be realistic here. It doesn't matter it is multiple WCC, Webber is far too inconsistent to be WDC and besides team will adapt car's handling to Vettel's preferences, as usually doing so results in net quicker lap times overall.Who would you support, if your preferred driver and/or team aren't cutting it?
I think everyone would like to Alonso or Massa (if 2012 form continues) take a long due WDC win for the mighty scarlet Ferraris.
Motoring: about passioniate supercars, full of technology. Why not?
The rebaged Nissans (Renaults) have won for far too long and the German grey boxes (C Klassse) have stolen the show for far too long.
A return to the passioniate Italian auotmakers leading the way . This is what everyone wants. Be it the humble Ducato van or the top of the range Ferrari hypercar, FIAT should be the world leader of motoring. Does not everyone agree?
Style and passion is always more important than reliability in a road car, always, surely.

This is a very interesting point, actually.same goes for most of the Vettel and Kimi fans....
I've noticed that today, Vettel and Raikkonen fans are in one camp while Hamilton and Alonso fans in another. Of course, I'm not generalizing, but it seems that most people tend to prefer one of these two duos over the other.
It seems that that Hamilton/Alonso fans have gotten over their differences from 2007, and the fact that now Lewis too broke up with McLaren recently, only seemed to have helped even more. Likewise, it seems that they actually have become friends out of F1.
Vettel and Raikkonen fans are generally not so much rivals, never were. I've noticed that most Kimi fans slowly moved to Seb after their original hero left F1. On top of that, Seb and Kimi are good friends outside of F1.
Personally, I by far prefer Lewis and Fernando, as I think they are better drivers, and more interesting personalities (note that "fake fun" does not equal interesting).

I think that has to do with the overall 'atmosphere' the two pairs of drivers bring. With Hamilton and Alonso, you really get the superstar racer feeling - here is someone who will make this happen, create interest and headlines, participates in the business side of F1 just as much as the actual racing. On the other hand Kimi and Sebastian both feel a little less controversial - one shuns media attention, the other rambles on so much as to become almost boring. Neither fit the superstar mould - Kimi far too reserved to bother with press activities, Sebastian too 'boy-next-door' to really create much of a sense of awe (unlike Ayrton Senna). Instead they dedicate far more time to racing: rallying, snow mobile races, Race of Champions, etc. This is a very interesting point, actually.

Of course there is cross-over between the two created categories - Sebastian regularly participates in promotion for Red Bull, Alonso has Ferrari's Wroom festival. But even then, the way they go about doing so is quite different. Therefore I think it is quite natural that they appeal to different types of fans.
I personally doubt Alonso and Hamilton will ever become best friends, although friendly behaviour between the two is possible (indeed apparent). It is more of a common enemy (Sebastian) thing; were Alonso and Hamilton the only 2 fighting for WDCs, I bet the rivalry will heat right back up. Whereas Sebastian and Kimi's friendship is something more due to personalities which suit each other, which I think would endure even were they to directly challenge each other for the WDC. Even after Bahrain, you could sense that despite really wanting the victory, Kimi was never going to push Sebastian over the limit for it. There is a respect between the two (much like the friendship between Alonso and Webber) which translates on-track.
Therefore, my 2nd choice is Kimi when my first is Sebastian. My third choice is also due to personality too - Felipe Massa got on really well with Kimi back in 2007-2009, so I would really hope for him to do well.

Hamilton? Business and politics? That's too funny.I think that has to do with the overall 'atmosphere' the two pairs of drivers bring. For Hamilton, F1 is all about racing, and he has a celebrity style life. You always hear him and Nicole in the news, etc...
Alonso is involved in virtually everything in F1, including business and politics. However, outside of that, I'd argue that he has the most private life out of these four.
We all know that Hamilton likes celebrities and rappers, he dates Nicole and so on. We know a lot about Lewis' life.
Now, what does Alonso do when he's not involved in F1? That's a little trickier, isn't it? (Pun intended )
Hamilton and Alonso are actually completely different personalities. However, both are unique, in their own way.
That just shows how little, or nothing you know about Fernando and Lewis outside of F1.LOL, too political to my liking.
Stay clueless.
