It looks cheap and slow in my opinion. I hope I am wrong.

I hope you´re right.

I like it. It looks like an Indy car, and those cars look pretty nice nowadays.

Not quite as good as the Sauber, but miles better than the boxy RBR.

i can bet my house on marussia quitting on the end of 2013 . the lack of sponsors is beyond belief for a an F1 team and the cheap cosworth engines is gone and they have to pay for the new expensive engines(if did find a supplier to sell them one). a new owner can rescue them though

They are on the look out for a new engine contract for 2014, maybe Ferrari if they can have a solid year?

Big step forward from Marussia. First time ever they finish a race without a SC only a lap behind I believe.

And with Bianchi they've a great driver. Best rookie of the day for me. Chilton looks on Inoue's level.

Bianchi, unnoticed, drove a blinder, kept Bottas not too far behind until he lost lots of time in the final stop.
Chilton will have his hands full trying to keep up.

Wow, did not expect Chilton to be that much slower than Bianchi. At least he did overtake VDG in the end.

Their race pace is at the back of the midfield. It's now down to development to close the gap further. Bianchi looks devastatingly quick. If Chilton continues to circulate 1s slower than his team mate, he'll quickly become irrelevant as all setup and development will default to the much quicker driver.

Impressive result for Bianchi. He really performed well. This season will make for an interesting spectacle at the back of the grid.

A very promising weekend for the team. Signing Bianchi seems to have been a real win for the team. He brings money and is also very quick, i'd say (without any facts) quicker than Glock. He really had the measure of the Caterhams this weekend, and the gap to the midfield didnt seem to be that big in the first half of the race. Chilton was a bit underwhelming, but i'm not ready to judge him yet. His qualifying (like Bianchi's) was ruined by Gutierrez's crash and in the race he had to change his front wing, which then dropped him behind van der Garde where he spent most of his race. After getting ahead of VDG he was setting pretty good laptimes. I'm expecting him to improve quite a lot during the season.

Symonds and Bianchi are probably the best two "things" to have happened to Marussia!
Positively surprised by Bianchi!

Fastest lap time for Bianchi: 1:30:454...just 1.2 sec shy of fastest lap in the race 1.7 sec faster than Chilton. This is just amazing.

Right now I am beaming side to side, Marussia deserved this kind of fortune in 2010. It's a bittersweet race as I am a Glock fan, but here's hoping he comes back.... Imagine a Glock and Bianchi pairing.....

Also a nice big up yours to Judas 'Pic'.

Precisely. He did finish one lap down, 61.5 secs behind Bottas.

He lost lot of time during his last pit stop...probably 5 tenth or so slower than Bottas per lap on an average. The good thing is that they have the pace to cash on somebody else's misfortune. Give the guys some credit they have almost 1/5th William's budget (and 1/2 of caterhams budget).

How much different from last year at this time. Sadly, their budget means limited development, but Bianchi looks a real star. Chiton lost a wing, which explains a lot of the gap. Once he got by VDG, he put 20 seconds on him in 10 laps.

They're a real team now. Just slow, not embarrassing.

I don't think Ferrari engines will be asset. Their turbo technology was woeful in the past. If Marussia can get the funding, a Merc supply would be best. The car looks nailed to the road, which suggests a solid platform. What they need to find now is downforce and the lap performance will follow.

And the platform it's built from looks like a masterclass from Symonds, I remember Anderson saying similar things on a bbc pre season test review, that the car is basic but is a great platform to build upon.

Marussia are certainly ahead of Caterham this year, good job by Bianchi today. I just worry about their resources though, I would love it if they could approach the lower midfield but there's still a significant gap.

That was a very good race from Marussia. Perhaps Bianchi will be able to trouble the lower midfield on occasion later this year, particularly with Williams struggling so badly at the moment?

I should also mention that I was sceptical about how Bianchi would perform in the F1 environment following his often erratic form in GP2 and FR3.5, but he really impressed me this weekend, so I shall have to eat my words!

Chilton's problem in GP2 wasn't basic speed. It was just he often couldn't pull off a pass to save his life even in an obviously faster car and was also far too easy to pass himself. No racecraft at all.

Excellent end to the first race. Very fine result for the team. The car looked actually good when it lined up. Massive effort to fit KERS and manage it running, racing in a difficult condition. I think their tenth position is solid. But it just the beginning of the long season. I hope they will make it up. Hunting down the likes of Williams are incredible step forward.

Sepang on Friday will show us just how much progress they've made. High temperatures, abrasive circuit and an emphasis on aero efficiency will tell the real pecking order.

Bianchi has been driving F1 cars since 2009, he has much more experience. Chilton is obviously not on his level, but he shouldn't be THAT much slower.

Seriously out of his depth? I didn't think so, he beat van der Garde handily - once he got past, which, as billm99uk suggests, is down to poor racecraft (he blamed waved blues getting in the way).

Wasn't expecting much from Chilton, but he didn't disgrace himself. Especially when considering other more touted talents from the past - Modena who gave up on his debut, Bartels and Moreno who DNQ'd for Lotus...

Jules may have done an even better race if he stopped earlier for his 1st stop and 3rd stop.

Their best chance of points will probably come in a crazy race, such as a race with a sudden downpour with 6-10 cars retiring over the course of the race or 1 with a big crash knocking out a good number of cars in 1 go.

I would think Sepang's straights would be an advantage for them. They don't have the Coanda exhaust, which hurts them with downforce in high speed turns, but gives them more power. And they don't need the downforce on the straight.

Perils of too much money, I s'pose. Temptation is to move up if you can afford it, rather than acquire the required skills first. Really think he should have had another year in GP2 at least. But he's not actually slow. Stick him at the front of the grid in a good car and he can drive away. It's when he actually has to pass people on track that he's in trouble. Way too cautious!

Every car on the grid runs either Coanda or Downwash exhausts as it's a performance differentiator.

Seconded. Though they are at the back of the grid, it may accumulate momentum to keep the position as is.

Bianchi was good, I thought, but what happened? he did not end at one position higher?

There is nothing proven, but pic said that the main difference from Marussia to Caterham was power. If its enough to feel then theres probably a difference.

The Cossie in 2006 was one of the highest revving units. Ferrari lost 40hp (5%ish) of power when they reduced from 19k to 18k revs for 09, therefore you'd assume the cosworth would have lost more than that on it's re-introduction, assuming the power curves are similar. Short answer, we dont know but most people believe so.

What Pic said the difference between the Caterham and Marussia was KERS. Personally I think the cosworth is the more powerful engine. Where Renault benefits is driveability and fuel economy.
