It looks cheap and slow in my opinion. I hope I am wrong.
I hope you´re right.

Not quite as good as the Sauber, but miles better than the boxy RBR.

i can bet my house on marussia quitting on the end of 2013 . the lack of sponsors is beyond belief for a an F1 team and the cheap cosworth engines is gone and they have to pay for the new expensive engines(if did find a supplier to sell them one). a new owner can rescue them though
Big house? I might wanna take up that bet!

And with Bianchi they've a great driver. Best rookie of the day for me. Chilton looks on Inoue's level.

Big step forward from Marussia. First time ever they finish a race without a SC only a lap behind I believe.

Bianchi is a top lad.

Fastest lap time for Bianchi: 1:30:454...just 1.2 sec shy of fastest lap in the race 1.7 sec faster than Chilton. This is just amazing.
and apparently only 0.045 slower than Vettel's fastest lap!

It is amazing what fresh tyres and an empty tank can do.

Precisely. He did finish one lap down, 61.5 secs behind Bottas.

I'm sure Marussia won't mind too much, if they can finish ahead of Caterham this year and get some Ferrari engines next year .This is the kind of excellent driver who brings a lot to a little team, but will be ripped off them by a bigger team very quickly

They're a real team now. Just slow, not embarrassing.

I don't think Ferrari engines will be asset. Their turbo technology was woeful in the past. If Marussia can get the funding, a Merc supply would be best. The car looks nailed to the road, which suggests a solid platform. What they need to find now is downforce and the lap performance will follow.I'm sure Marussia won't mind too much, if they can finish ahead of Caterham this year and get some Ferrari engines next year .

And the platform it's built from looks like a masterclass from Symonds, I remember Anderson saying similar things on a bbc pre season test review, that the car is basic but is a great platform to build upon.

How much different from last year at this time. Sadly, their budget means limited development, but Bianchi looks a real star. Chiton lost a wing, which explains a lot of the gap. Once he got by VDG, he put 20 seconds on him in 10 laps.
Chilton's problem in GP2 wasn't basic speed. It was just he often couldn't pull off a pass to save his life even in an obviously faster car and was also far too easy to pass himself. No racecraft at all.

Bianchi drove a great race. I'm not sure if Marussia will be able to catch the midfield, but there's still a long way to go in this season yet. It's looking very promising for them!

Bianchi has been driving F1 cars since 2009, he has much more experience. Chilton is obviously not on his level, but he shouldn't be THAT much slower.binachi looks like the next big thing in F1 or is max chilton that slow ?

Seriously out of his depth? I didn't think so, he beat van der Garde handily - once he got past, which, as billm99uk suggests, is down to poor racecraft (he blamed waved blues getting in the way).Chilton looks seriously out of his depth.
I hope he can turn it around.
Wasn't expecting much from Chilton, but he didn't disgrace himself. Especially when considering other more touted talents from the past - Modena who gave up on his debut, Bartels and Moreno who DNQ'd for Lotus...

Jules may have done an even better race if he stopped earlier for his 1st stop and 3rd stop.

Sepang on Friday will show us just how much progress they've made. High temperatures, abrasive circuit and an emphasis on aero efficiency will tell the real pecking order.
I would think Sepang's straights would be an advantage for them. They don't have the Coanda exhaust, which hurts them with downforce in high speed turns, but gives them more power. And they don't need the downforce on the straight.

Perils of too much money, I s'pose. Temptation is to move up if you can afford it, rather than acquire the required skills first. Really think he should have had another year in GP2 at least. But he's not actually slow. Stick him at the front of the grid in a good car and he can drive away. It's when he actually has to pass people on track that he's in trouble. Way too cautious!

Every car on the grid runs either Coanda or Downwash exhausts as it's a performance differentiator.I would think Sepang's straights would be an advantage for them. The team's performance impressed me in Melbourne. I'm intrigued as to how they'll handle Caterham for the rest of the year.
Seconded. Though they are at the back of the grid, it may accumulate momentum to keep the position as is.
Bianchi was good, I thought, but what happened? he did not end at one position higher?

The Cossie in 2006 was one of the highest revving units. Ferrari lost 40hp (5%ish) of power when they reduced from 19k to 18k revs for 09, therefore you'd assume the cosworth would have lost more than that on it's re-introduction, assuming the power curves are similar. Short answer, we dont know but most people believe so.

There is nothing proven, but pic said that the main difference from Marussia to Caterham was power. If its enough to feel then theres probably a difference.

What Pic said the difference between the Caterham and Marussia was KERS. Personally I think the cosworth is the more powerful engine. Where Renault benefits is driveability and fuel economy. There is nothing proven, but pic said that the main difference from Marussia to Caterham was power.
