Jay Penske and Roger Penske have own IndyCar teams and compete against each other.
Was there a similar case in the history of IndyCar, F1 or another series?
Or just other family members?

Reg and Tim Parnell in F1.

Did they compete against each other? I thought Tim took over the Parnell team from Reg.

Pretty sure not. AFAIK Tim's first races were in 1957 - Reg's last were in NZ at the beginning of that year

And, yes, Tim took over the running of the Reg Parnell RT after his father's death in early 1964

The question is about running competing teams in the same series, not competing against each other as drivers. Tim Parnell took part in a handful of F1 races between 1961 and 1963, entering under his own name, so he was technically competing against Reg Parnell (Racing). I believe that Tim received support and assistance from his dad, though.

The Parnells are very interesting. Is there a book with more details about them.

TNFer Graham Gauld wrote an excellent biography of Reg Parnell which came out in 1996. It features an epilogue devoted to Tim Parnell and Parnell Racing after Reg's death. Second hand copies are still available moderately cheaply:

And what about familie teams with family members taking over from father, like Claire perhaps will do at Williams.
And Alex Sauber is also working in the manegement at Sauber

Tim and Reg Parnell of course

but other examples?
