Didn't realise PdR was the tallest driver, thought that was Webber.

According to the BMI calculator, Grosjean is underweight. Rather strange for an F1 driver.
I don't find that strange. It's more a surprise if many of the others are not classed the same. Webber in particular looks very gaunt and underweight.

And he's a gaunt skeleton.
They have GOT to do something about this before some tall young lad develops a major eating disorder...

Bottas is a real lard ar**.
But he's probably also the fittest guy on the grid.

Well I was only joking, but the drivers trying to be as light as possible has bugger all to do with fitness.

They are all more than fit enough in that regard and it still has bugger all to do with why they are trying to be as light as they can.

I think 1.74 for Lewis is a bit generous. Jenson at 1.83 towers over him. Also, Vettel is taller than Lewis.

Max Chilton at 1,82 metres and 65 kilograms is scary...
Wait: the differential with Seb Vettel and Gutierrez is even more pronounced...

Yeah, the most worrying aspect of DC saying in his autobiography about how basically he used to manage his weight as a young driver by Bulimia was how matter-of-fact he seemed about it, like it was really no big deal. (It may also have been defensiveness, but even so.)
It is all a bit of a worry. I've read throwaway comments from the drivers I follow which suggests a lot of them are basically hungry a lot of the time but the tall drivers are presumably extra vulnerable. I read an interesting interview with Jenson Button, for instance where he explained that keeping himself physically fit and at the same time staying quite underweight for his height was a balancing act that took a lot of care from expert nutritionists he worked with. It's honestly great he takes his health so seriously and is open about what it takes but I wonder how many other younger drivers have either the resources or the knowledge to look after themselves so responsibly.

The biggest variance in weight seems to be about 15 kg anyway. I wonder how big the weight distribution advantage with the amount of ballast is in that sort of a case.

The BMI is a load of complete nonsense, especially so when measuring athletes. Use at your peril.

Very large variations with some drivers between the two pictures. Hard to tell which one is more plausible. What is the source for this information anyway?

15kg (33lbs) is a huge amount to be able to play around with.

Nine of 21 are 180+ and people are saying that F1 drivers are short Only Ferrari drivers are really short now.
Even more amazing is that Grosjean weigh just 60kg being 180+. He's basically a pretzel or a more applicable, a Chicken Goujons.

It looks like something about 178, he's like Ricciardo or slightly shorter.

There was a picture this winter from Button with his legs out in the open. It didn't seem like a balancing act to me but rather unhealthy.Yeah, the most worrying aspect of DC saying in his autobiography about how basically he used to manage his weight as a young driver by Bulimia was how matter-of-fact he seemed about it, like it was really no big deal. Sure, but I wonder if there's any way to tell how much it is on lap time. It would be fun to have a formula like 5kg = 0.1s or something.

He has always been well.. ''well rounded'' and packed with muscle, it's just how his body is, he seems to develop muscle really easily.

Maybe his training methods are wrong. I've seen comments in the past from drivers saying how the training has to be designed to avoid putting on body mass.

Yeah, balancing act isn't the best phrase I could have picked - 'trade off' is probably more appropriate and closer to the spirit of his comments.

It also depends on the posture. I'm 1,74 like Shcumacher. But if I would get near him he would look taller because he has is spine in a straight line unlike me. Watch kimi: he's taller than Alonso and Hamilton, but when their together they look the same.I think 1.74 for Lewis is a bit generous. Jenson at 1.83 towers over him. Also, Vettel is taller than Lewis.

Notice the shorter guys are the best.
Yep. I would also enjoy knowing the heights of the former greats. Schumie is 1,74, Prost 1,58, Piquet?, Lauda?, Fangio?, Stewart?, Senna?, Clark?

Sutil:"Seven kilograms makes only about a tenth difference"Sure, but I wonder if there's any way to tell how much it is on lap time. It would be fun to have a formula like 5kg = 0.1s or something.

Only? In a sport where they are chasing hundredths and thousandths of a second a tenth is a life time.

Lauda 1.71
Fangio 1.75
Stewart 1.62
Senna 1.71
#42
Posted 25 February 2013 - 13:21
Gilles Villenenuve - 1.57
Tazio Nuvolari - 1.60
Alain Prost - 1.65
At the other end of the scale:
Jochen Rindt - 1.83
Nigel Mansell - 1.80
Damon Hill - 1.82
James Hunt - 1.85
The last four were really tall to be successful racing drivers. I was trying to find the height of Stirling Moss as he must be pretty tiny.

Tazio Nuvolari - 1.60
Alain Prost - 1.65

Those two is hard to believe. Mansell must be something like 1,77 max and Prost 1,60

Yeah it was a google search so I don't know if it was totally accurate. I agree about Prost I would have thought he was smaller than 1.65 as he looks tiny!
#46

I'm still pulling for a minimum driver-and-seat weight as opposed to driver-and-car.
That would be a very simple solution.

Unless the mesures are about noses. Prost an Kubica would be top.Yeah it was a google search so I don't know if it was totally accurate. I agree about Prost I would have thought he was smaller than 1.65 as he looks tiny!

Well might be that he should change them a bit, but what I meant was that even as a kid he had ''big bones and broad shoulders'' if that's the correct term.

Wow. He is my same height and weight. It is my fast metabolism that keeps me from gaining weight.According to the BMI calculator, Grosjean is underweight. Rather strange for an F1 driver.
