I think Bottas's CV speaks for itself, they only series he never won was the F3 Euro Series and that was largely because the ART team fell well behind Signature. He has bags of talent and i think he has the potential to seriously impress, i'd just urge people not to expect too much too soon. I'd be surprised if he can get close to Pastor before the European season kicks off to be honest.

The final race in Monza was simply fantastic, propably the best feeder-series race I have seen (well, atleast the best GP3 race), and Valtteri showed some nerves of steel that day.
This. I remember myself cursing I didn't have my TiVo on!
Bottas has this certain kind of calmness around him, which spells great promise to me.
It seems like he means business.
But you never know. We'll see.

You can't really compare what Hamilton did to what the situation is today. Back then you could test as much as you liked, and even if Bottas did many friday sessions last season, Hamilton did way way more laps in an F1 car before his first race. Same goes for every rookie these days.My expectation and hope is that he will perform similarly to the Hulk in 2010. That is taking half the season to get up to speed before matching his team mate. It's rare that a Hamilton comes along and is incredibly fast from the off. Wouldn't it would be ace if the Bott is the same though?

Decent effort by Bottas, but it has to be taken with a pinch of salt because Maldonado may have improved if Gutierrez hadn't crashed. The Williams seems very very slow though.

this season i fear we won't be able to judge any rookie properly,as all they will drive are craps(don't expect Gutierrez to stand against Hulk either)...

I think Bottas is a little bit slower than Maldonado at the moment and his Q1 lap was more a result of fortunate timing but the gap doesn't seem that large so it will be interesting to see what happens later in the season

No matter the circumstances Bottas was faster than Maldonado today and that on a new track for him. As I've said before Maldonado is an emotional driver who doesn't perform well under pressure. He's already started to talk about the car beeing undriveable and back to 2011 level. However I agree that he seemed to be faster in dry conditions.

He was ahead of Maldonado all race as he didn't get caught behind a Marussia at the start. Pastor then fell off by himself, so overall he outperformed him.

Will be hard to show too much potential in the Williams if they can't improve it. He was only 15 secs ahead of Bianchi until he had a poor final stop near the end

He has performed all weekend better than Maldonado, who we know to be a very fast driver. Kept out of trouble and did a very mature, solid first race. It's difficult to look impressive, when you are driving a complete dog.

Bottas would've clipped at Maldonado's heels without a big moment towards the end of turn one. MTV3 did a lap analysis with him and he said the rest of the lap he was on identical pace with Maldonado. The error was caused by not accounting for the wind enough - the corner starts with headwind and finishes off with tailwind, causing massive loss in rear downforce. It was his rookieish error, but the team could've definitely helped by allowing him to do 2 runs in Q1 rather just one lap right at the end. I guess they thought they would make it to Q2 with ease.And round 2 goes to Bottas aswell. However Maldonado had q in his pocket with (0,4 secs) so Bottas needs to work on that...

Did Bottas try a 2 stopper? He pitted way later than Maldonado.
It looked like he was forced to do a third stop late in the race when he was about 5 s ahead of Maldonado.

According to Coughlan Bottas had some problems with the last pit stop. Otherwise the cars would have been close to each other.

Maybe but not by much. For all the crap Maldonado takes on this board for being a paid driver none of his teamates so far have been able to beat him convincingly .Not really. Bottas is much more convincing than Senna was.

At times, Senna made last years Williams look like this years Williams. He was alright in the races though. Bottas seems to be be performing better all-round, and has the potential to match Maldonado. Until they're able to score points it doesn't really matter though.

Maldonado achieved better average starting position during the year.
If not Hamilton's dumb move in Monaco, Maldonado would've beaten Barrichello in points.
Maldonado outraced Rubens 4 races in row on demandig tracks between Belgium and Japan. Rubens had never outraced Pastor 4 races in row.

That being said, I do believe that Bottas has the potential to be a future WDC, and he'll beat Maldonado by the end of the season, but he needs more time and less pressure put on him.

That's something I felt Senna needed as well. Less pressure to be like Ayrton.
And I really do think, that both Bottas and Senna are sort of suffering from the same thing. The way F1 is these days.
