Marussia to be absent from Australian broadcasts?

Im sure the sponsors would love them to be invisible!. F1 can go a whole year without showing Marussia and while ridiculous there wouldn't be harm really. Marussia on the other hand would go broke within 2/3 races. So even saying it in jest is pretty out of this world let alone calling it "vital" for Bernie and using it to get a better deal.

Didn't something similar happen to Force India at the Bahrain Grand Prix? Might be wrong about that.

As for the Marussia situation, it is confusing to see this but there is still another week to sort this out.

you wouldn't be able to broadcast 1 race without showing a glimpse of the car -> or they'll sue the heck out of you.

It would be impossible for Bernie to not sign with them. Imagine the outcry if we missed an amazing overtake for the lead on the final lap of the race, just because the leaders were lapping a Marussia at that very moment.

I remember that, I thought it was rumoured to be because Vijay Mallya had fallen out with Bernie and Bernie punished him by barely showing his cars on track. Martin Brundle mentioned it during commentary.

Close. The issue was that FI hit panic mode with some personnel leaving the scene and the team went public about their concerns, which was a big hit on the "all is fine" story that was being vented at the time.
edit: Then it was a full fledged damage control operation. Normal Armed Convoys with multiple checkpoints, Bernie who wasn't supposed to be there showing up on race day as if he had been there all weekend, Jean strolling around the grid, drivers clearly inside their bubbles and a minister exchanging arguments with Rubens Barrichelo via press.

most of the other 'sponsors' are in-fact financial institutions, most likely the companies that are supplying the cash to the team.

Yes, I think it did happen to FI but for a different reason. They skipped FP2 to get away from the circuit safely, and FOM seemed to be annoyed about that and studiously avoided filming their cars for the rest of the weekend as a kind of punishment. That's what it seemed like anyway.

So they're saying pay us more, not because we deserve it but because otherwise we'll make your life extremely difficult. A dick move. I guess extortion is a better word than blackmail.
And we're not talking simply having the Marussias vaguely in the background, they cannot appear at all.

How can you judge without knowing what Bernie's offered or what Marussia are asking for?

Bernie's said he only wants 10 teams, chances are he's offered them diddly.

Because Marussia really is in no position to be asking anything? The value they bring to Bernie is close to zero.

They work as hard as anybody else, why shouldn't they play the game and get what they can? Bernie defined the rules, and that's what they are: be hard, selfish and greedy. Get what you can, however you can, and good luck. He wanted them when there was the breakaway looming.

It makes no sense to be imposing a moral standard on a race team bargaining with Bernie Ecclestone.
