Is it me or did Audi down size the wheels when they went from Quattro to Quattro Sport ?

Looks like the right size wheels but with wrong tires. :confused:

Looks like the right size wheels but with wrong tires.

Wouldn't want to comment on the size of the wheels or the correctness of the tyres but it isn't a genuine Audi Quattro Sport. It is one of the cut & shut Dialynx Quattros.

It is indeed young Ronald - those are all taken during practise as Amon didn't start after a road crash and Courage's engine broke when being started on race morning (he is in the Lotus-35-Martin V8).

Sorry, the thread title "Personal photos of F1 (and, erm, other stuff)" misled me. As did the picture of the BMW and the F3 cars...

Here's some other stuff from IIRC the first ever meeting on the Brands Hatch GP circuit in August 1961. Camera this time was a 16 year old's modified Brownie 127. I took it apart to see if I could use the incredibly fast 125ASA Ilford FP2 in the camera. I saw that the timing of the spring-loaded shutter was controlled by the length of the curved slot in the moving element, so I used a hole punch to make a hole in a piece of very thin card, painted it matte black, and glued it over the slot, effectively reducing its length by 2/3 - It worked. For the photo of George Wicken I was sitting in a tree on the inside of Hawthorn's Bend.

I seem to be on the Côte d'Azur as I type, but I'm using borrowed computer equipment - after spilling wine on mine - and so far have been unable to get unfamiliar photo software to collaborate with a Pentax K-5. There will be some Monaco pix on here, but upload speed might have more in common with a Life W12 than a Renault V8. I'll keep trying...

It must be hell down there! And if it's a 1990 Margaux you spilled, then it's karma!

The Pentax uses SD cards so any up-to-date computer should a) have a card slot, and b) be able to read the files on it. If you want free software to manipulate images, try Gimp or Irfanview - Though connecting your Pentax to the computer via USB cable should automatically install suitable software to download images from your camera, or get it from the Pentax website.

Is it me, or are they all slightly underexposed? Good photos which should be made even better with a little adjustment, mind you, better under than over, you can rarely get back highlights.

I think that Jensen has been rather restrained in the circumstances, whingeometer readings would have been measurable on the Richter scale if any of Nige's team-mates had driven into him.

Im making fun of him because he always seems to be moaning about something. Tires, balance, his mean teammate, etc. And his voice sounds weird on the radio, a little deeper and more brummie.

No F1 for me this weekend - the first time I'll have been absent from Montreal since 2000 - so here's some recent 2013 'stuff'...

Second round of Blancpain GT series takes place on famous building site.

The light crowd and no crowding.

Bridge of size.

Drove to Snetterton the following day and discovered it was simultaneously 1983...

...1973...

...and 1963. Next scheduled F1 snaps will be from Silverstone and the Núrburgring, but there might be outbreaks of diversionary nonsense beforehand.

Autosport website is reporting that a marshal died in an accident during the retrieval of Gutierrez's crashed Sauber at the Canadian Grand Prix. A sad reminder of the vulnerability and potential danger that those who support race meetings place themselves in for the sake of others.

My condolences to the family of the deceased. I sincerely hope that F1 Administration have in place a scheme (financially and otherwise) to support those affected by this tragedy.

As you say it was far from summer weather on Friday as this snap of mine illustrates but rather than a BRDC backdrop I prefer the scenic view (notwithstanding the rain) out at Becketts which I have faithfully trudged out to for the best part of 45 years......

Don't you miss the variety of trackside hoardings that used to form race track backdrops way back them, David? Nowadays we only get blanket coverage by a few selected (i.e. ones with ginormous budgets) names.

PS Does Paddy McNally still get his percentage from F1 trackside advertising?

No guesses as to which one I prefer!!! As I can see three M23 airboxes, it's obviously the first start. I have such a soft spot for 006/2

What a good shot David! One minute later, on the opposite side of the circuit, complete mayhem.....

Looking at your photo, I had forgotten what a poor start Emerson made, here in tenth place, from fifth on the grid. Reutemann up to third, from eighth, Hunt up to sixth from eleventh. Peter Revson could teach Mark Webber how to perfect the Grand Prix fight back; start badly, get caught up in someone else's accident, be patient, look after your tyres, reel in the leader, then pounce. It could have been déja vu all over again.

I liked the old Becketts, being out in the country. I expect JYS feels the same about the wheat fields at Stowe.

I believe McNally does still receive more for the trackside advertising than the host circuit.

Since the latest rebuild of the circuit the atmosphere has more or less disappeared but Becketts still feels exactly the same despite it being turned into a series of sweeps. Standing on the bank still has a relaxed feel away from the scrum and gives you a view over open countryside beyond the circuit.

Could be right, Tim. Looking at the footage, Fittipaldi is fairly slow away, Reutemann comes round the outside, sees a tempting space to his right and heads directly for the apex at Copse, nearly taking the Lotus's nose with him. Two more things that I'd forgotten: Lauda's BRM never left the grid at the first start (broken driveshaft?) and David's photo was taken just after Stewart had swept past Peterson into Becketts.

Yes indeed. The stationary car was then clobbered by Oliver's Shadow which knocked off one of the BRM's wheels, but BRM repaired it in time for the restart.
