What do you think? I'll believe it when I see it. I would much rather VW come in with the Audi brand though.

That's weird. Last night before falling asleep I was like "Lexus should join F1" and..........

Prolly April fools joke, but with 2014 regs we could see some new teams, who knows

I didn't see anything regarding Toyota or Lexus on april 1st anywhere, I only seen the one about Dupont F1.

Stranger things have happened, I hope we start seeing more manufacturers join in the future.

Again, if true, this is great! F1 needs more manufacturers, this would be a positive step hopefully showing VW among others that they too can make the leap.

Entries to F1 are one of the few things that Mr E doesn't (yet) control - entries are still governed by the FIA. However, Bernie could make life difficult for a new entrant he didn't like - by refusing to sign them up for a share of the TV revenues & hosting fees. This was essentially the tactic he used to bring Mercedes to heel.

OT but, I would not be surprised if Infiniti took over RBR in a few years down the road..They are already the Renault works team, Nissan & Renault have been partners for years now.

That is why Marussia has yet to be offered the Concorde Agreement for signing... :)

April fool or not, Toyota in F1 as an engine supplier for new engine formula isnt unreasonable at all.

I doubt they will do an F1 team again coz resource required for it is massive, and personally I want them to concentrate on the ongoing LMP effort and succeed there, also I think LMP series suits Toyota's image more than F1.

But if they can provide engines for F1 that would be awesome.

I'd be surprised if that were to happen, Dietrich has spent any awful lot of $'s to get RBR to where they are now and its all part of his mass global marketing campaign for Red Bull, i can't see him giving that up, not for any amount of money. I could see their Renault engines being re-bagded though.

If say, they enter as an engine manufacturer, and just for argument's sake take the place of Renault at Lotus (for whatever reason), we'd have in 2015, barring any other changes:

Ferrari
Mercedes
RBR Renault
Mclaren Honda
Lotus Lexus

5 top constructors, 5 different engine suppliers.

I want that to happen :up:

I think that's in the possible but not probable box - though come to think of it, the Nissan Technology Centre Europe, at Cranfield is only 7 miles from Red Bull's F1 factory in Milton Keynes.

True, but for how much longer is he going to want to fork the bill? In theory, it could be like it is now except the roles reversed. (red bull as a title sponsor, infiniti running the team)

He doesn't foot the bill any more - WCC money + infiniti money + other sponsors covers RBR's budget. If they did have any RB money chucked in it'd be from the marketing budget, and as it stands winning championships is a far more effective way to sell Red Bull than billboards.

They are planning to enter the series in 2015 so plenty of time to develop and test - like they did in 2001.

If they develop a new F1 engine it would also fit in a WEC challenger under the new regs there if they so chose… Doubt it though. supposedly Renault may use it's 2014 F1 engine in a possible LMP1 Alpine. I doubt that, too.

thing is, everyone here assumes it's april fools.

it was merely a start to talk about the possibility, same as all those talks about Audi or Honda or whatever to F1.
Toyota actually has facility, and doing WEC/F1 engine from 2014/15 has been plausible for a while either with or without this april fools thing.

So what hesitate them from joining this formula one party is that this destiny that they are pre-programmed losers being named as TOYOTA, the maker of mass consumption cars. Formula one is a strange field where even the giant successful car builders like Toyota or VW may easily fail to perform due glamour.

I actually do hope to see Toyota back on grid. Would be great to see all Japanese engineers instead, not a fake Toyota guys from Germany and England. Toyota is a mighty successful Japanese Car Maker, we should want to see how Japanese Group will go in to the formula one operation and make then a radical change in thinking. Should be much more evolutionary done than how Red Bull has done it.
