The Nissan Deltawing has mysteriously vanished from the car list and all screenshots on the game's official website. Hopefully this is just because of temporary issues, because I'd love to take that vehicle for a spin in GT6!

It's an issue between Don Panoz and Nissan regarding the Deltawing and the Nissan Zeod. Apparently Don is claiming that key patents transferred to him when taking over the DW project and despite the ZEOD being a new design by Ben Bowlby they are arguing over it. Obviously Nissan's partnership with PD and the ownership of the Le Mans Deltawing has caused some legal wrangling.

I suspect we'll see it back in the game at some point, even if it has to be deliveried or repainted in the current colours it runs in.

I started downloading this sucker before I left for work this morning, so I'll get to sink my teeth into it when I get home. Really looking forward to checking out Bathurst!

Ive been playing it a bit this evening. Its Gran Turismo, no surprises really in store for anyone!

Some loading times are amazingly long, the licence test for example. Also, it makes you buy some god-awful Honda Fit thing at the start. No way Im driving that! As soon as you buy it, all the other car are unlocked so I just bought another car with the change and sold the Fit.

Currently rocking around the Sunday Leagues in an Isuzu Piazza:)

Burtros, do you have a retail copy or did you download it from the Playstation Store? I've heard people comment on long loading times, but I haven't had a single long load time yet. From the moment I'm at the track and pressing the "go race" button, I only have to wait five seconds at the very most. I'm quite impressed! Maybe it's a result of the digital version being entirely on the hard drive.

Anyway, I find the career mode to be much more enjoyable. The Fit was a decent starter car, but I was kicking myself after I sold it and bought a Camaro instead. The Camaro, while faster, handles like a wolverine hopped on crystal meth. Taking corners at a reasonable speed? Yeah, forget that. It's a pretty car but my third purchase, a BMW (forget the exact model) has combined the best of both words (Fit's handling and Camaro's speed).

Longer than GT5? Loading times were a large reason I couldn't sustain interest in the game like I had GT4/3. :(

So after your first impressions - a must-buy if you already have GT5, or rather not?

Yes! The game is alot more refined. Some of the intial game play is tedious, but once you get to a certain point (certain licences etc) it comes into its own.

The deltawing is in the game btw, and they have even added a nitrous upgrade available on certain cars.

Theres no more silly used car dealership (and waiting for a car to arrive in there), all the cars are available staright away from the dealership.

They made the license tests and other time trials a lot easier. I could gold quite a few of them in the first try, something I very rarely could in the previous versions. Granted I think im better now than when I first started to play Gt5 with a g25. Many of the tests you even gold with seconds to spare.

Maybe it will get more difficult but even the Red Bull x2010 run at Goodwood, which has been by far the most difficult so far, I completed with 2,5 seconds under the gold time.

I think the online part needs some work. I cant find the feature they had in gt5 where you could see which online lobby your friends where in.

The load times are FAR shorter for me.From menu to race in about thirty seconds, can't argue against that.

As for whether or not this is worth the purchase if you already own GT5, the answer is YES. The main menu and star system alone make this a much more enjoyable experience. The menus are blazingly quick and super organized now, and the star system makes progression through career mode feel more enjoyable. Having all cars available from the dealership right off the bat is also a HUGE improvement over GT5's used car dealership "lottery" system.

Oh yeah, the racing's top notch as well.

GT6 >GT5 by a massive margin. If you enjoyed GT5 but had the same gripes as many (long load times, weird career progression, bad menus, etc.) then you'll find plenty to like in GT6.

PS3 retail. Its so bad at times I start to wonder if its crashed. Doesnt look like it Autosaves this game?

Other than that though I am loving it. I hated so many of the races in GT5 and this seems much better this time. Stars work well IMHO.

And then theres the other thing. Ive just fitted a diff to a FWD car with too much turbo power. The difference its made to the car is so accurate to real life its what makes the game so much fun. Its kind of like re-living the moment you first tried a diffed up front wheel drive car on a roundabout. You cant be sure how or why you made it round but you did!

Oh wow, then the difference between retail and digital is HUGE. Word needs to get out that digital is the way to go if the loading times are that slow with the physical copy. The load times of the digital version are perhaps the fastest I've ever seen in a racing game, it's ridiculous.

This is the first GT I've played where I've been aiming for old cars much more than the new (even if I want a Veyron quite a lot). '61 E-Type and '69 Stingray Convertible are my current two favourites. The E-Type handles beautifully while the Stingray seems to have a significant edge in speed over other cars in its class, but it handles like a monster. I literally feel like I'm trying to tame a beast when I drive that thing, but in a really good way.

Also a big  to Polyphony for not making the E-Type a premium quality car. That iconic piece of history deserved to be premium and I can't wrap my head around why it isn't. That is my only gripe with this game so far, that the E-Type is not premium. I've put several hours into this sucker already, I think it's going to end up as my favourite console racing game that I've ever had the pleasure of playing.

I have the physical version and load times on my super slim are ok.

I wonder if you have a corruption to the PS3 file system, on my old launch phat it happened a couple of times resulting in very long Blu Ray load times.

Take a look at this http://community.us....n/td-p/37322987
and give a whirl.
Make sure you are careful though as there are several options that will wipe your PS3

Agree about the favourite game part. Its been 10 years since Ive spent so much time on a computer game over a weekend.

Trying to tame my KTM XBow.

No matter what I've done to setup, the car is very twitchy.  Even going through flatout corners the end is likely to step out.  What setup can I change without creating awful understeer at slower speeds.

Does anyone find the credit system a bit out of kilt? I mean that when you win a race you receive not much of a reward. I know that you can make micro purchases to speed progression, but i thought that was to supliment the race income? It smells a bit like one of those freemium games!

Also are they counting base models as well as race models towards their "additional 200" cars? Anyone else noticed there is a vauxhall and opel dealership...

@Ali - Try adjusting your right foot   ;) Seriously though I find increasing rear toe in is the easiest way to increase rear stability from a geometry perspective. Could try increasing front ARB and springs too. Lots of options. It's hard to increase rear stability without inducing some element of understeer however.

mrdave - Vauxhall and Opel do have some different models even though they are effectively the same thing these days. The Vauxhall Lotus Carlton for e.g. or maybe there are some historic Vauxhall only models?

Can't wait to try. Are you guys all running from disc/HDD or digital download? Anyone tried SSD upgrade? Heard some people say the game performs better.

Hmm.  I actually have a spare 2.5 inch SSD.  Is there much of a benefit replacing the Hard drive with an SSD.  I'm running the Disk for the game and I regret now not going for the digital download.

For those with the disc version of the game, there is an option in the menu's to install the key data to disk, which improves loading times immensely.

I'm no PS3 expert, but I'd recommend this if you've got the drive space. Installing games to the HDD/SSD takes strain off of the system's optical drive and reduces load times tremendously. I invested in a 250GB HDD for my Xbox 360 just so I could install games to it, and I don't regret it.

That must be why some with the physical copy say that the load times are great, they found that option. And mrdave, the amount of credits received per event will increase significantly pretty quckly. Don't worry too much!

The races have always been quite low reward. I end up doing the same one over and over to build up good credit and tune a car properly. I can win the European Hot Hatch championship in a Vauxhall Tigra so Ive done that a fair few times to build it up. I wont buy any thats for sure!!

Vauxhall and Opel have always both been on the games for some reason. There are no differences to the ranges other than the badge! The Lotus Carlton on the game is a Vauxhall only model (Opel called the LHD version the Lotus Omega and it wasnt included) but  its available only at the Lotus dealership I noticed. Im a big fan of the Vauxhall/Opel marque and the worst thing is they havent ever updated the range. No Monaro VXR. No VXR8.

I find replaying the classic sports car challenge at Madrid on the second tier of events to be pretty decent for getting credits early on. You can win the race in about 2:00 if you're quick, and 2:10 if you're slow. Gives you just over 8000 credits, which isn't bad for two minutes of easy racing! I've found the '69 Stingray Convertible to be practically unstoppable in that particular event. It just has so much more raw speed than the cars that the AI selects.

Got my copy in the mail yesterday, I have not tried it yet though. Some of the reviews are pretty underwhelming, I can understand where their criticism comes from without even playing the game.

What happens with the disk install option is that it will write the data to the hard drive as you play, so the game will get progressively quicker on loading the more you play it... I've found tracks load quicker if you've driven them before, so maybe just spending a couple of hours test driving all the main circuits in Free Run might help the Career go more smoothly...

I got the 15th Anniversary Edition which came with 25 cars and 1 million credits.  It certainly helped as the winnings from career mode are low.  The gameplay is no better than GT5 and as i use the disc I only see a minor improvement on loading times.  The car selection at 1200+ sounds great but precious few recent releases have been added.   It feels like a patch not a new game.  The new screens are a definite improvement but I would say this is one for GT completists or fanboys.  Wait for the next one on PS4.

I am unable to imagine that some people are playing the game I am. It pretty much fixes everything bad about the GT5 interface/progression model, and the driving model is vastly improved. Calling it a patch is just.. well I dont know how you could.

All of this applies to playing the game progression as intended (I have the 15th anni edition but Im focusing on the progression cars and havent spent a cent of the free million credits).. and I am a complete nazi about getting gold/perfect on everything.

I guess each to their own.

I also think it's a bit unfair to say that GT6 is nothing more than a patch.  There are almost as many 'new' or new premium cars in GT6 as Forza 5 has in total.  There are several new (new from GT5) tracks  (Silverstone, Apricot Hill, Matterhorn, Brand Hatch, Mount Panorama) and tracks that were DLC in GT5, Spa & Motegi, are also both included.  And many of the existing tracks now include weather and time transitions.  And we know there are major updates coming over the next several months.

The improvements to tire model alone make GT6 worth the price.  It isn't Assetto Corsa but it's a big step up.  And, at least for me, the loading times aren't a little faster.  It's cut it in half.

That said, the AI is still painfully slow and the payouts in career mode are ridiculous.  In lieu of which, there is a glitch where you can easily obtain several hundred million credits and buy all the cars you want.  It's hard to believe PD/Sony left such a gaping hole.  Most likely the exploit is going to be patched so if you want 'em, grab 'em while they're 'hot'.

Yeah, I really can't fault this game that much. I don't know if some people just had massive expectations or what, but I kept mine at a reasonable level and I'm not disappointed with GT6 at all. The standard/premium issue is still there, but I don't really notice it unless I'm flicking through the camera views and spot the black interior of a standard. I prefer to use the hood cam myself, so that doesn't even bother me.

I've only been a bit dismayed by a standard once, and that was when I spotted one during a race from behind. It was bright white and seemed to be very blocky and lacking in lighting effects compared to other cars, but that was the only instance I actually spotted a standard during a race. I'm just not paying attention to the finer details of the cars around me. I'm trying to concentrate on the track and priotizing spatial awareness over how detailed a car's tail lights are.

The AI is a bit slow when you're driving equal or slightly better cars than them. I've only been challenged so far when my car is down on horsepower compared to the rest of the competition. The kart races seem to have a little bit of challenge to them, though. I was winning races left and right until the kart races popped up. It took me a few tries to win the Autumn Ring kart race. I couldn't change my driving style to suit the karts for several races but, when I did, I won that race pretty comfortably. I think I cheered as much at my win at Autumn Ring as I would whenever Raikkonen or Rosberg takes a win.

As someone said earlier

It is largely a game for GT fanboys and competists, I guess I need a little more from a game.

So much so that I spend most of my sim time playing a 6 year old game that has free mods with it that are infintely better than anything GT can come up with.

Each to their own, and GT6 has improvements, but the fact remains that in some areas there are over 30 and 70 versions of basically the same car.

And most of them have looked the same as they did the first time they were released, sorry to say but it IS a patch largely, new tracks and cars are not a new game, they are in fanspeak but not in anyone elses!!

I don't agree with this.  I do conceed that any PS3 or Xbox game is going to be somewhat crippled from the start simply by the fact that it's designed to run on a game console.  And as such, it has to appeal to a wide audience with differing expectations and a wide ranging set of skills.  The 'average' Forza or GT player is a casual gamer, sitting on a living room couch, holding a controller and probably doesn't know bugger all about taking the proper line around a circuit or proper braking and turn-in points.  Most console games have the same m.o.  Take a car from the back of the grid and drive it to the front of the field within a few laps.  It's a daft concept that doesn't exist in any real racing series.  And for that reason, PC sims are more appealing for hard core enthusiasts, if we want to drive virtually.

That said, if you drive with a wheel and all artificial aids turned off, the latest version of GT has a pretty sophisticated physics model.  And the tire model is a huge improvement over GT5. It's certainly not perfect.  But even if you look at iRacing, a very well funded company that has a good working relationship and is able to share real word data from tire manufacturers, they often get things very wrong--at least in effect and feel.

Over the years, I've spent time with Rfactor, LFS, Race 07/GTR Evo, Netkar, iRacing and now Assetto Corsa.  They all have their pluses and minus.  And not to admonish those modding communities as they have some very tallented people who put a lot of effort into some of the mods.  But from my expereince 90% of the mods were absolute crap.  And the cars are an equal roll of the dice.  Was it something painstakingly recreated over the course of a year with pain and effort, or was it something slapped together by some 14 year old lliving in his parent's basement in Croatia who's never even driven a real car in his life.  Apparently, I had a very different experience with Rfactor and GT4 mods than you did.  It's easy to cut them some slack simply because most of the modders are people who do this in their spare time, without pay.  But looking at it objectively, if they were paid DLC, there would be very VERY few, i would end up buying.

The GT6 series is a compromise and not without it's problems.  It's hard to be everything to everyone.  And I have some very harsh complaints myself.  But when you have a game that has:

over 100 'new' cars

7 new tracks (with several variations of each)

A completely updated physics model

A new tire model

A new visual display system

A completely revamped menu system and one that's much faster

New events

A new update planned every month, for the first 3 months of the year with a course editor, new community features, etc.

This is NOT a patch.  It's a new game.

* As an aside, one of the best new community features is to be able to compare your times during the license tests and challenges with your PSN friends.  During your run, the game will create a virtual ghost line on the road for the times your friends set.

It goes with every game some people will like the product, some wont. I like this GT6, but on another product, like F1 2013, I am in a minority that think its terrible. Swings and roundabouts.

I think its totally fair enough to say there not much new stuff in there, and GT6 is a progression of GT5 yes but its a really very good one, I enjoy it much more than any other game I have for ages. The progression of menus and races is good, Im not fussed with the rate credits are given out at. You can use your first car for ages, I think it was the British Lightweights in IB class (a win pays 27k credits and one race can be done in 4mins) that I used my Tigra for which Ive used for most of the game so far, some 75 races last time I checked!! Its paid for itself many times over.

I make the game interesting by avoiding Japanses cars wherever I can. Im not particularly into them personally, so I only have one at the moment needed for the Japanese championship, an Impreza 22B.

I think theres an element of respect needed too, announcing its one for completists or fanboys because you dont like it isnt particularly pleasant, and certainly when applied in my case, wrong.

After extensively playing both GT5 and GT6 a good amount, I can't imagine why anyone would say that GT6 feels like a "new patch" to GT5 rather than an entirely new game. What's recycled beyond cars and tracks? Both of which have had their numbers inflated? The soundtrack is new, the menu and every single way it functions and operates is entirely new, there are new features like Goodwood, the course editor (coming soon) is completely different from the GT5 incarnation, career progression is entirely different, loading times are leagues better and barely exist at all (though not for some people, not sure why this is), completely new physics, a revamped rendering engine, lots of new car tinkering options... and what else? I know I'm missing something. We've got tons of content on the way like the Senna stuff, and the main menu leaves lots of room for new tiles/widgets to be added over time. Anyone who calls this entirely new game "a patch" must be suffering from sour grapes, I can't think of any other reason anyone would say something like that.

Oh it totally is sour grapes.

I resent being told about a new game from people when it simply isn't new.

No game really is, I suppose. But the iteams you pick out take a few weeks to write, a soundtrack takes hours for Gods sake!

From most people I know who have played it, beyond a veneer of new things its exactly the same as previous GT games.

But as I say, it will be bought in the million because you are all bored and there is nothing else to play.

To the poster about Rfactor, well you are right in part.  But there are maybe 5 or 6 mods on RF I would pay for. In fact in a roundabout way have paid for.  Enduracers could be a standalone game in itself, F1 2007 mod, F1 1991 historic, the GT Legends spinoff, GP 1979, touring cars form all era's, GT from 60's and 70's.   All these are very good, and detailed and fun.

Not to mention some of the tracks which are superb, like Mid Ohio, Sebring, Le Mans.

The real issue is most of these mods are taken from other games like GTR, F1 challenge so most are not bespoke to RF, those that re like Enduracers are spot on.

ANd sadly RF2 is proving very hard to write for and seems never to be finished!

Anyone know if you can set the ''B drivers'' to do stints in the endurance races ?

I don't think there are either B-spec or endurance races, unless you unlock them when you finish the S-license races?

So far, the longest races I have seen have been the 24 minutes ones in the S-license races.

...lots of new car tinkering options...

Excuse me?

I have missed this point. There's actually less tinkering with car available. You can now buy sport brakes (not possible in GT5), but there's less adjustment options for car than predessors.

Even live-driving quick adjustments for brake balance, tc, abs are gone. I wish updates would add tyre pressure and fuel amount adjusting.

Otherwise I agree what you said. So far I have liked GT6, though not had time to play it with wheel yet.

I'm disappointed standard cars not having dashboard (just black shadow of it) but even they are refined to look out almost like premiums. I took my Dodge Charger '69 at photo travle and camera didn't give any censored limitations and little details around car did look out like premium cars.

The RA menu has been added back in after the 1.02 update.    You'll have to go to settings to assign a button to it though.

Does anyone know if the special edition is worth while? Fron what I can see you get 1M credits and a few cars, half the fun is working your way up through the cheap cars and doing them up.

I wouldnt bother if I were you. I got it.. a couple of the cars are kind of cool (at least they are not all godlike and silly like some previous iterations) but I don't really use them, preferring to play it like you.
