How's the Lotus 97T handle in comparison to, say, the Formula Gran Turismo? That's the only open wheeler I have besides two karts, and I think it handles like a dream.

Really regret putting the game down a few months back, because I'm just now reaching the events that give me so many credits for winning (like the Red Bull special events) that I'm practically laughing at how easily I'll be able to afford more expensive cars if I just sit down for an hour to repeat the races a lot.

Tobacco sponsorship so can't be included.

(Although there's Marlboro branding clearly visible on the McLaren in the Senna's Wish video!)

That's pathetic, why do they show all the old footage and images then constantly...

Probably just playing it safe, Videogame companies stay well clear of tobacco advertising. Sega got into a lot of bother with the tobacco and beer adverts in Super Monaco GP back in the day.

Sometimes they slip through. F1 Heavenly Symphony/Beyond the Limit from 94 (based on 93) had some tobacco ads in the game, and the West branding on the McLaren was in Formula One '97 until very late in development.

Formula GT handles like, let¨s say RB09, while Lotus 97T is handful. I mean, aero is magnificent (not on Formula level), but turbo lag is a killer. When it kicks in, it's like a wild beast that hasn˝t been feed for a week. You really do need a wheel and pedal set to properly control it. Although, I rather enjoy Senna challenges.

They would like to be able to sell their game in europe, canada, australasia etc. Dont blame the company.

I remember either EB Games or GAME in the UK refusing to sell one of the old F1 games to under-16s because it came with a free F1 poster with a Benson and Hedges Jordan on it.

It was always funny when older F1 games used real GP footage in the intro sequences: It was nearly always from the French GP because of their ban on both tobacco and alcohol sponsorship!

It's the same as the alternate livery in GT6, I think.

Nice surprise to boot up the game earlier and have the Red Bull Ring added :)

Why can they never get the sounds right? I love the GT games to bits, played them since i was a kid, but there's no excuse to get the sound wrong for certain cars. It's harder to enjoy the TS030 when it sounds nothing like it's real life counterpart

I would imagine the reaosn would be that so much of the game is taken up with graphics and modeliing, maybe there is not enough room left for sound?

Not being a programmer or coder I dont know?

But if that is not the reason and the real reason is laziness, hwich would not surprise me with what is bassically the laziest game ever written when oit come to repeat stuff, old tech in new games, then I am not at all surprised.

Still, hundreds of thousands of GT fanboys will buy it, love it and thnk it's the best thing since sliced bed.

but when it comes to sounds, when you can play a mod for RFactor, that is free, is not beholden to anyone other than some fans and modders, and they can get sounds right, you ahve to ask questions about the quality of coders at Polyphony I think?

Still today, Gran Turismo 5 and 6 is best racing game available for Playstation 3. And in future for "fanboys and owners of PS4" - like you would say - GT7 will be best available racing game for (Till Project Cars if they release it for PS3 and PS4).

According on Wikipedia PolyPhony Digital has 140+ employees. It is not much when comparing Microsoft studios and some other big ones. However with small group they have made game which feels good and looks good, but I strongly agree with you that sounds are horrible.

But what I don't understand is your commercial campaign about rFactor. It is for PC, it will never come to consoles - which this thread is about Gran Turismo for Playstation. To get your rFactor run smooth frame rate - like GT5/6 with PS3 - you need high end computer, time, money and enthuasism to build one. RFactor is also developed by hundreds...to thousands of players who don't have to carry worries about licenses, copyrights and such. Game studios who make this as big profession with trademarks has eternal battle with copyrights/trademark owners how they can use their products in games - alongside with rival car companies. RFactor need just punch of nerds to make excellent carmodel and feeling and rebrand it something else.

If GT6 is anything like other racing games\sims then it'll have a central piece of code which handles the sound for all cars and the individual sounds will consist of samples for different cars which it then loops and otherwise manipulates according to what the engine is doing.
Some cars may share engine sounds - there might be a generic " musclecar V8 " sound or for historic F1 cars it would make sense to have a generic " DFV " sound as the differences between models aren't going to be very great.

In rFactor ( I only mention it because it's the sim I know the most about ) the quality of the car sounds depends entirely of the skill of the person who prepares the samples, and the quality of the original recordings they derive from. They can range from " awesome " to " wasp trapped in a jam jar "

oh i dunno, we'll always respect you for it :)

oh and sound files are the worst and hardest bit to get right for rfactor, and that's coming from someone who's modelled, tested and raced with it for years.....and the files can often end up being huge lol.....but that's no excuse for Sony and PD to not get it right in GT6.....which tbh i've had for 6 months now and just can't grow to love (and i've had all of them barring GT4 i think), maybe i just got too old...... :(

Longest (approx) 2mins of my life! ;)

Good job, I am working with a joystick and the best I can do in all of the Senna tests is get within around a second...so far (just started)

How many points do you get for gold in the Brand's Hatch event (97T)?  I got 800K for silver....

OK I beat "Senna's time" with the joystick, at Monza, by 0.8 seconds.  Got 1.8 million points for that.  It wasn't too hard, which just indicates that the simulation is wanting for realism.  Still behind by a second at Brand's Hatch, but this too will pass.

I did play that new track (well it first comes with challenge you need to complete - actually first one with Abarth Fiat is enough - for unlocking). It's very nice track though no much run-off areas. Long and fast straights, enjoyable corners. + the track is 27 km long which makes it longest track in game.

First Challenge was very fun and remind lot of Outrun. Challenge has few tens of seconds time at startline, nitromethane and route is split in 12 sections and every end has checkpoint giving player additional time. Fine driving without collisions, shortcuts, gravel traps gives fractures on score multiplier and some sections even grants bonus for speed and jumps. Collision with other car and out of track driving resets multiplayer to zero. Task is to drive through one lap overtaking rival cars and gaining enough score points (1 000 000 for gold) with given time.

As reward, track is unlocked for offline and online use, Gold gives you full tuned Abarth 500 and few hundreds of thousands credits.

New feature into game is addon gauges on dashboard. Quite pointless but I had fun put classic oil pressure, revolution and water temp gauges on my Mustang Mach I. Gauges are not available for "standard cars".

That one was fun, the highest Ferrari GTO version rewards a clean run with 200K bonus points in the game, making 1 million points for the gold level easy to achieve.  That is, it's fairly simple to get the gold level if you are clean (no collisions/no off-track excursions).  1.8 million reward points is the prize.  I have 40 million and don't know what to do with it...

1.8 million point from Ferrari GTO event?

That is alot.

I drove like mad and had clean run and barely made 1.3 million points. Previous events gave more due there was more traffic I think.

For credits use, there's some cars which cost 20 000 000 each so there you go. :D

My score in the round was 1.2 million but the reward was 1.8 million credits (I had logged in 5 days in a row).

For the 12 Hours of Bathurst, two of the three drivers for the winning car are members of the GT Academy. One day you're playing Gran Turismo, a few years later this .....

I would say some are just naturally talented, but they need every pieces of puzzle to fit together. Impossible? I would say with better odds than win jackpot from lottery.

For example there's these Idols, X-Factors and such which gives some people change to shine. Lucky ones delivers.

Midfield is not very awesome track. I think I only enjoyed it with Tourist Trophy since it's so boring. B-Spec might be interesting. What I read about it driver gets confuced and spins like Felipe Massa when lecturim poor driver too much.

I tried b-spec on novice career mode race. I don't know if it's even possible to use b-spec in seasonal events. There's no B-Spec driver developing anymore. You just give real time commands how to drive (brake, accelerate, change driving line, slipstream, overtake and pit).

B-driver can drive of his own, so do not get me wrong - brake and accelerate commands are just telling driver to have some bias on them.

Without commands driver is rather stupid and for five lap race he still could battle with last place position if not encouraged. Change line commands could be usefull if Bob's car is slightly slower than rival's so actual command is to block them. I need to test it further so I can say more about new B-Spec.

B-Spec Bob always was a bit of a dimwit. It may have been dumbed down a bit from GT5, but to be honest the driver development from ' 5 was a bit of a grinding slog, to add longevity to a game which didn't have it. Doesn't really offer much to me.

On the other hand.. the Mini VGT around Midfield is a 'hoot-and-a-half'!!

I loved this game when it came out and now am hoping to see GT7 on the PS4, but it will have to be one hell of a game to be an improvement on GT6.  Good they've finally updated the sounds, that was one glaring fault with the game though!

Haven't played this for a few months, still only one trophy away from platinum. I racked up plenty more miles on GT5 due to the difficulty, felt GT6 was far too easy and just can't summon myself to rack up the mileage.

That's what I mean. Everyone (almost) has an android 4.1 device. But this APP is not even compatible with smartphones. Not least that this feature was touted as a PART of the GAME at launch. Which it isn't.

Grinds my gears.

It works on my tablet, which surprised me. I read that a lot of people were getting it up and running. I'm probably going to try to recreate some F1 tracks, which is 100% possible after I played around with the app a little bit when I downloaded it a few days ago. Albert Park will be first up on my list.
