I'm glad there is still an unlimited class where engineers are free to build the ultimate time attack car. Motorsport has become far to regulated in my opinion. The isle of man TT is another event I'm glad still exists, people should be free to make their own choices and if that means doing driving or riding at rediculous speeds on public roads (closed of corse) then I'm all for it.

Simon Pagenaud's entry is far from the most usual thing out there... there was some talk starting from the guys at Racecar Engineering about an initially rejected entry with a Dallara DW12, and he ends up in, of all things, a Honda Odyssey with about 530 bhp. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Front splitter might help though, depending on rules. Then again, what class does that fall under?

According to the entry list, it's in Exhibition. Biggest guns are all either in Electric (Monster's E-Runner and the TMG EV P002) or Unlimited. FFS, there's even a rallycross-spec Ford RS200 in Unlimited... :rotfl:

Don't sell Time Attack short either

Several GT3's with drivers who know the mountain. Paul Dallenbach in the RMR Hyundai that ran sub 10:00 last year. And local David Kern in the 700 plus HP Evo.

Quite a depth to the field in almost all classes. Hopefully the Rookies treat the mountain with respect, it is very easy to under-estimate this event.

I so wish this was better covered over here

All you are getting is Redbull PR, which to be fair to them is pretty good

I did watch one bit where Loeb and Millen are chatting,

Millen "I am sort of half throttle up to third then flat"

Loeb "I have 800 hp and in every gear foot to the floor!"

Get in Seb start the chat right now!

For 2013, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb has has added a fourth practice day, part of an effort to give each of the competitors extra practice running up the mountain. That day is today, and it saw the cars running on the bottom-half of the course, while the two-wheelers ran up top.

World Rally Championship maestro Sébastien Loeb showed why he's the master of perilous ascents, tallying today's quickest section time with a 3:30.768 in his Peugeot 208 T16. Loeb's time buried that of current champ Rhys Millen, who rang up 3:54.835 in his Hyundai Genesis Coupe Unlimited racer. Veteran hillclimber Paul Dallenbach chipped in with the quickest Time Attack session at 4:16.113.

If I was a Pikes Peak competitor and I saw the works Peugeot outfit turn up, I'd be worried. If I saw Loeb step out of the transporter. I'd be very worried. If I saw those timesheets I'd be packing up and going home...

The best rally driver of all time in the best Pikes Peak car for many many years should see some amazing times if everything goes to plan.

Middle section: (UL = Unlimited, TA = Time Attack)
those are the only times under 3minutes:

1. Loeb - UL - 2:12.32
2. Dumas - UL - 2:26.60
3. Dayraut - UL - 2:29.05
4. Dallenbach - TA - 2:33.26
5. Steele - UL - 2:35.82
6. Rennison - UL - 2:38.00
7. Zwart - TA - 2:38.36
8. Donner - TA - 2:40.04
9. Carapetyan - UL - 2:43.98
10. Goeglein - TA - 2:46.18
11. Rowe - TA - 2:48-08
12. Yoshioka - TA - 2:49.76
13. Kern - TA - 2:51.20
14. Siddens - UL - 2:52.33

Millen didn't run.

other categories did the qualifying run today (on the lower section)
(UL = Unlimited, EV = Electric Vehicle)
those are the only times under 4minutes:

1. Loeb - UL - 3:26.153
2. Dumas - UL - 3:43.556
3. Millen - UL - 3:51.814
4. Dayraut - UL - 3:55.218
5. Tracy - EV - 3:56.287
6. Masuoka - EV - 3:57.777
7. Tajima - EV - 3:58.189

Friday is the last day, UL/TA will do the upper section, EV & others will do the middle and we will have a good idea of what might happen sunday (except Millen ofc, I wonder why he didn't run today)

edit: Millen had a problem on his engine and they decided to change it

I heard Simon Pagenaud wanted to run a DW12 up the mountain but the organizers said no :(.

Simon Pagenaud's entry is far from the most usual thing out there... there was some talk starting from the guys at Racecar Engineering about an initially rejected entry with a Dallara DW12, (...)

I'm almost thinking someone made this up. Read this now from at least three forums in total, but can't find the original story (couple of times said to be on Speedtv.com too). Also, if this was true, to me would sound more likely that Honda rejected it. :D

Bikes have just started going up the course, there's about 50-60 of them before the cars start going up. First two cars will be Seb Loeb and Romain Dumas.
