why alonso spun it in turn 2 canada 2008 and crashed into the wall ?just watched it

Driver error, according to Alonso himself http://www.autosport...rt.php/id/68135

He tried too hard to get still some result after he and his team realised that they were on the wrong strategy.

Scored a paddock pass for Saturday, gonna dress like a douche and make the most of it. Not sure i will be allowed in as i am the last man alive that refuses to wear oversized sunnies and sticks with old school Ray Bans that cove rmy eyes, not my entire face.


Old school, wayfarer Ray Ban's are the best. You'll fit in. The big sunglasses are only for the drivers.

Alonso :cry: " (means: heee aah, Alonso slipped :cry: ) is well known for being an Alonso fanboy (the other guy once said about him that he has a picture of Alonso in his wallet, not sure if true but I can definitely imagine it :D in abu dhabi '10, on live TV, he was hoping that Vettel/Rosberg/Petrov/anyone in front of Alonso has a DNF so Alonso can be champion, and counting the possibilities of who has to suffer a DNF etc.) so that made his reaction even more funny :)

Anyone predict Grosjean to podium again this year?

McLaren has always seemed to do very well here so, as seen by Hamilton's and Button's stranglehold on the circuit in wins since the return to the schedule. Unless something changes in the week off, I don't see Mercedes being beaten in qualifying either, but I see Rosberg again on top. This car just seems to suit him more than Hamilton. But I see Hamilton taking the win. It might be McLaren who has the success as a team on the circuit, but at the end of the day it was the driver taking the car to the win.

Podium will consist of:
Hamilton
Vettel
Rosberg

But if this race is anything like last year, it'll be an extremely close race.

He´s a weird guy, sometimes makes weird random voice modulations as if he tried to be seductive or something like that. I think he´s nuts.

As most here, I think both merc's will rule qualifying. Probably Rosberg as he can get more out of the car in one lap. Now that there are more passing opportunities, I think Hamilton will be better in the race.

This is a low deg track. The tyres do not have much forces being put through them because there are not many long/fast corners. Tyre wear is high, but the Pirelli's deal quite well with tyre wear. Because of that, i don't think it would pay off to stop 3 times, unless you are really overheating your rears.

The majority will go for 2 stops; some will try 3 stops. A 1-stopper like last year is probably out of the question with the cheesy supersofts.

Castrol experts - only one has Vettel in race-P1, and I cannot blame them as I have no idea how RB strategy will pan out.

This Chandhok "expert" must really carry some bad memories on Sebastian, because his votes in Vettel's favor (15% accuracy insofar, lowest) are not very flattering. :rotfl:

Discounting? Rosberg got poles three times in a row, it's said Hamilton has problems with his brakes and Mercedes will likely struggle big time in the race again. So I don't know why my prediction is unrealistic - it's a personal prediction based on the facts from the last races. It could be completely different, and Hamilton could be on pole, and I would go that far to say, even by taking his brakes problems into account, he will not qualify worse than third.. What's does discounting mean, any prediction putting Hamilton not on pole and a race win?

Lewis's stats in Canada are very impressive, while Alonso's quite depressing. Vettel is the only one who has always finished in the points in Montreal, even when he was driving STR, but he's also the only one from Top 4 who hasn't won the race yet.

Worth noting that if Friday is wet (most definitely possible by the sounds of it), then they don't get the 2 extra sets of the new tyres.

The current Canadian forecast is for rain to move more towards Saturday and Sunday than Friday.

No real surprises there, for all it's might the Red Bull is sluggish in a straight line, even trimmed out. At the same time the McLaren Mercs have been relentlessly in the top two or three in the speed traps.

True, though I think their barren spell in Canada is partly just bad luck. In 2010 they managed to qualify 2nd and 3rd on the prime tyre which put them in a great position for the race, but the early stoppers didn't get caught in traffic as expected. Vettel was on pole in both 2011 and 2012 too, and was half a lap away from the win in the first of those.

Mercedes don't even do a pitstop and get a whole lap penalty, but still win as they were 5 laps ahead of the rest of the field anyways xD

Anthony Davidson's lap of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve

The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is 4.3km long, has 14 corners, and a lap record held by Rubens Barrichello of 1:13.622. And now it's your turn to tackle a lap of the circuit with Sky Sports F1's Anthony Davidson.....

Technically, the first corner at Montreal is a right-hand kink along the main straight. Although it's so slight that it doesn't require any thought in the car, it does require a driver to hug the inside line in order to put the car on the outside of the track for Turn One.

But doing that can sometimes open up an overtaking opportunity into Turn One itself because the car behind will know that, so long as the car in front goes to the right-hand side to pick the best braking line for Turn One, he can get himself on the inside line for Turn One and in position for a pass if he misses the apex of the kink.

It's a risky place to overtake, however, and one that is only realistic if the car in front has made a mistake coming out of the previous corner - but we have seen it in the past!

Today it seems that rain is less likely for Q, but more likely for P1.

Could be difficult or impossible to test the new tires if it's wet, so those teams that are against them would have a reason to postpone their "agreement" for one more race.

Depends how heavy it is more than anything. Constant light rain won't be a problem, but rain such as Japan quali in 2010 for example would be an issue.

Well, before 2013 you could think that China is Rosberg's best track, but this year it was the track he was worse compared to Lewis than anywhere else.

Isn't Lewis supposed to have some issues with braking? Shouldn't it hurt him the most on circuit like Montreal?

I think sometimes people read too much from past performances.

What makes you think so? I'm not so optimistic for Lotus tbh, but a second win for Kimi is vital in the upcoming races.
