I know the weather can't be predictable right now, but it seems we're in for a shower for qualifying. That could hurt Lotus, especially Kimi. He can't afford to miss Q3. Here's hoping that both Kimi and Alonso finish in front of Vettel to make the championship more interesting.

A shower in the qualifying will play into RBR's hands. I don't know how some of you predict weather so confidently a week ahead for a one-hour qualy session. It's not like Montreal is gearing up for a hurricane coming weekend. The shower chances are slim and that is given roughly for the day. To pin point that to one particular hour in the afternoon would be quite a task.

If Mercedes maintain their quali form then Rosberg looks good for his 4th pole in a row. I know this is a track that LH excels on, but overlooked in all of that is the fact that Rosberg has never qualified outside of the top 10 in Montreal, and outqualified Schumacher (the Montreal master) in their 3 visits there as teammates.

Weather forecast sites are all predicting different things. Seems there is some chance of rain but we will have a better idea by Wednesday/Thursday. I hope it stays dry - Canada is one of the few races that doesn't need rain to keep it interesting.
Red Bull should be strong here with their good traction. Ferrari have gone well here for the last 3 years and are stronger on low downforce tracks. Not sure about Lotus, but as usual they could make 1 stop less than the others (as Grosjean did last year). I think Mercedes will be back to their Barcelona/Bahrain form.
I think it will be 2 stops for most (OPP) because we are using the super soft, overtaking is quite straight forward and the pit lane here is short and cuts the final and first corner. However, as i said above, Lotus may be able to stop less than the others.

No one predicts nothing. And no one predicts something to fall just in one hour. I have a very reliable weather predictor and it says raining all day at Saturday which implies rain for qualifying. A short pitlane and easy passing encourages stopping more times, no less. 3 stops probably. People able to stop less times gets less benefit around this kind of places.

1) They´d have got more benefit out of it in any other layout had the race pace and gaps of every car been exactly the same. Maths, not interpretation.
2) They got more people than they´d have got normally only because they failed on their strategy trying to do something and then having to rectify ala Vettel in Spain 2013.
Magny Cours and Canada encourage more stopping.

Ham is very strong at Canada so I'll have him for pole, tbh I don't see Rosberg pipping him but if he can beat him here, I think he can beat him anywhere.

The Canadian Meteorological Service puts it at 70% chance of showers on Friday and 60% for Saturday.

Agreed. Far too much is made of certain drivers owning certain tracks. China was picked out as Rosberg's best circuit yet in six grand prix it's the only track so far where Hamilton looked genuinely faster throughout qualifying.

With respect to expected race result, this is very unpredictable situation at the moment, since no one knows with any certainty who has adopted their car most successfully to tires. I fear that we have no less than eight candidates for the victory and podium, which is very confusing for fans (like me). I would be content with less, say three or four, but that's not on.Agreed. 3 poles, 3 wins in 5 races and 2 non-finishes. So far, when Lewis finishes in Canada, he wins. You can't get more dominating than that.
Lewis looked faster than Rosberg when it mattered in Australia and Malaysia.

It needs to be noted here though, it's the Lewis-McLaren package that was dominant. Let's wait and see what happens his first trip here with a different car. Not disputing he is good on this track but the track always suited the Macca as well.
Of course, with Merc's current form and...advantages, one would expect them to be favourites for pole again anyway. I'd say if Hamilton outqualifies Rosberg by a comfortable margin, it will solidify him as a Montreal expert.

I think we will have a Merc front row lockout, possibly with Hamilton on pole. For the race, I would say Alonso or Kimi for the win, with Vettel possibly taking the last podium position.

Many of you don't place a Mercedes on the podium, but I've got the feeling that they will be up there (don't know if they completely solved the tyres issue, but we'll see a great improvement).
Also, the Mclarens won't be that bad there.

irrelevant but somebody else might care, there's an Open Day on Thursday with pitlane access at 9 a.m. You can watch the teams prepare the cars, and usually some people from the teams come and talk briefly to the fans

So another area on the calendar where cars can just drive across without any real time penalty/damage. Then again they'll probably say "ah but if they go across tarmac, they can't drag grass/gravel/mud/general debris across the track now"

This is a low deg track. The tyres do not have much forces being put through them because there are not many long/fast corners. Tyre wear is high, but the Pirelli's deal quite well with tyre wear. Because of that, i don't think it would pay off to stop 3 times, unless you are really overheating your rears.

They did the right thing to pave that run-off area. There was a service road that cut across there and cars would become slightly airborne.

Australia is low deg as well right? In retrospect it seems surprising that Lotus seemed to enjoy their biggest tyre advantage in Aus, or is Lotus more about the low wear than low deg?

True. I still remember races in early 2000´s where drivers would even keep the old front tyres in a pitstop and do two stints on them.
