Adding GP2 would certainly make it more interesting for someone like me who mainly plays career mode. Editing the grid is a good idea as well.

Yeah, I miss being able to swap drivers and/or change their names. This was always one thing that was fun in the old games, especially F1 '97 since it let us sort of make our own rudimentary season updates or fantasy grids.

Hi would anyone know if 'F1 2013 Classic Edition' is coming out (in Australia) on PC? I can buy the normal F1 2013 on PC. But I can only see the 'F1 2013 Classic Edition' for PS3 & PlayStation. If I can't by the  Classic Edition' I wouldn't buy it F1 2013 game, because there's a lot more in the  Classic Edition'.

does anyone know

You mean a boxed version? I am sorry, but from what I read the Classic Edition is digital only, even tho it's really the base game plus 2 DLC. I posted a link earlier on to the steam webpage but be warned that a lot of ozie users complain about inflated prices on steam.

I have been playing only the classics so far and I am enjoying it, it does have some oddities like Emerson and Mario driving the 98T or Prost being Alain Jones teamate on the Air Saudi Williams. The old TV graphics homage was a nice touch.

About the times, other people are reporting this as well. Maybe Codemasters fitted the performance boosters from Indycar on the engines.

I am too lazy to create an account on Codemasters forums, so I will dare to ask here. Anyone else noticed unrealistic results? Sometimes best drivers are well down the field. Alonso, Webber and Vettel outside the points in my first career race. Today Hamilton was on a quick lap i Q2 (great sector 1), but session timed out so he the game didn't bother completing the lap for him? He was out in Q2. Hulkenberg is 2s faster than Gutierrez in qualifying second time in a row. I know it's good to have some unpredictability, but I think it's a bit too much  :drunk:
Other than that, the game has a great feel (I don't mean the handling and driving simulation, but the atmosphere that surrounds you, I can really get into the Grand Prix weekend)

Yeah I've had that a few times. Never had a really strange winner but had the Williams and Toro Rosso cars really high up in a few Q1 sessions.

Someone knows where to get the Classic Edition for a bit cheaper? Steam is bloody expensive, yikes! The normal edition, I can find that one for less but the CE is what I'm interested in :)

It's not an old version of Imola - it's chicane-at-Tamburello version. (Perhaps there's some other changes since I'm not aware of though).

Well it's an old version now because it's the 1995-2005 configuration. In 2006 they changed the Variante Alta, and of course recently rebuilt the pits and got rid of the Variante Bassa. I guess they chose that version to give the 1996 and 1999 cars an authentic track to drive on. Estoril is in pre-94 layout.

I think it's Codies best effort since 2010; feels like there's a lot more to do this year, 2012 felt a bit of a hollow update.

I get the whole 'rights' thing is holding the game back, but honestly I don't know why Codemasters haven't done the obvious workaround that most sports games do - include a data editor/colour scheme editor on the disc a la Forza, FIFA and the WWE games. That way they can do their basic yearly update, then let the community edit the game to their hearts content.

WWE games don't come with wrestlers from rival promotions, but their create a wrestler function comes with all the bits you need to put those guys in the game easily - you just need to fiddle with the editor a bit. Forza doesn't come with versions of different liveries for every GT team under the sun - licencing would get ridiculous - so they let the community use the in built livery designer and the results come out pretty spot on from the best artists.

Just give us an a system that lets us shift drivers from team to team at the end of the season ourselves, plus an editor that lets us create car shapes and graphics and hey presto the biggest complaint that has dogged the series (aside from the unfixed bugs) could be solved quite easily.

Just a small heads-up. Aparently, Lauda's Ferrari 312 T2 can still be unlocked by creating an account on Codemaster's racenet, I almost died when I read a newspost saying it was limited to the Korea event.

There is no notification that you unlocked the car AND it sits hidden in the 1980's category for Time Trials, you cant race it anywhere else.

The stupid part of me hopes that the loading screen with the Lotus 78 is clue for an upcoming 70's pack and that the Ferrari is just a teaser.

I also think that in Career mode your suit and headrest should have your name on it, as well as the car numbers updating based on the previous season's results. It doesn't feel like time is passing or that 'authentic' a career when my car and suit still say 'Gutierrez' and come my 2nd season Hamilton will still be car no. 10, Vettel no. 1 regardless of what happens.

Agreed, it's only a small detail, but it seems quite shoddy when you're not sitting in 'your' car. The simple solution would be to create a graphic panel that swapped in when you sign for a team that obscures the existing name. Sure it might not say your name on the livery, but if you can't see it it becomes less of an issue. Same goes for the personal helmets, I'd love it if they could make them dynamic so your team's sponsor decals appeared on them, even if it was just the logo at the top of the visor.

Again, I understand rights issues exist, but there are ways and means around it!

I just can't justify buying this game after buying the last three, the classic f1 gimmick is not enough.

Same, especially after I learned that they're reusing the same old menus, animations, garages, etc. for the fourth game in a row. Completely reusing assets without modifying them at all (other than a fresh coat of paint) is extremely lazy. I don't want to give Codemasters my money when it feels like all they've done is continuously mod F1 2010.

Today was the first time i've had a chance to sit down and donate a good few hours to '13 since pur-chasing it and, first and foremost, i'd like to retract my previous statement!!!

After tweaking the FFB and what not i've just about found my sweet spot and its bloomin fantastic. Just finished a 100% race around Melbourne in the Williams for career mode and it was so enjoyable, feeling the extra grip on the first few laps before slowly losing traction and front end, bit by bit, driving the car to the limit but trying desperately not to spin up the wheels in the traction zones and not to slip the fronts either.

Also, this is the first CM F1 game that you can really feel the car moving around under braking, as an attempt to save fuel and not lock up the rears i was delaying the last few downshifts and it seemed to help a little. Easily the best F1 game for a long time, its not a "sim" but then i wouldn't want it to be, its rewarding but not too forgiving.

Well played Codemasters, well played.

Just read Glenn Greeman's extremely long winded gripe (analysis section, Autosport.com) about F1 games rights issue - preventing Codemasters from adding GP3 and GP2 career ladder to the game.

Whilst he has a point that the commercial rights holding in the sport does prevent this sort of stuff - I really can't say I'm remotely bothered about not being able to drive a GP2 car in an F1 game.

I'd like to be able to edit the grids however (e.g. stick Rosberg in a McLaren) in the same way that FIFA games allow you to transfer Robin Van Persie to Norwich City.

Personally I'd rather see the GP2/GP3 cars than the classic cars, but I doubt many people feel the same way.

I don't know if I'd say 'rather', because if we're getting a full grid of GP2 and/or GP3 cars we'd need to assume we're getting significantly more classic cars than in 2013 to be comparing apples with apples. I'd certainly be just as excited about GP2/GP3 as the classic stuff though, especially if they can get full access to the car for things like engine sounds, and some time on the GP2 sim shouldn't be as hard to come by as F1 team sim time. Plus the advantage of them being spec series, so while some variation between the teams does exist in terms of setup and whatnot, it shouldn't be too hard to get a full grid together. Watching how hard the GP2 drivers were working through Eau Rouge this year really makes me think that car would be hugely enjoyable to drive.

Just spent almost 3 hrs playing F1 2013 at my friends. (After buying the last 3 day one, I decided to hold fire on this one)

and.. oh dear, what a huge steaming turd it is. :(

Bugs that have been in the game for 4 years are STILL there, ie the out of sight bug (once a car goes out of sight it immediately speeds up 1-2 secs per lap)
And the AI cars simply do not have any tear wear like you do!

Amazing they can still sell basically the same game with a yearly 'gimmick' and people buy it. :(

I was hoping this year they'd crack it but after doing 2-25% races and 2-50% races I see its a total mess.

and that's before you mention things like the cars are now built like tanks, suspension arms are still infinitely strong, wing mirrors 'pop off' when the front wing crashes into something. You run out of fuel and even your engineer says 'you've run out of fuel' on the radio but the car never stops and 100 other flaws and bugs.

I planned to hold off a couple of weeks and get this after I see the reviews but after playing career mode at my friends, I'm simply going to skip the game completely now.

The annoying thing is that the game has the Cevert helmet in it.. a huge draw for me but as much as I want it, the game is a total dog. :(

After 4 years of problems, flaws and the same bugs.. I think its time another company got the F1 licence as Code'masters' are simply not up to the task of making a decent F1 game.

Sad to hear but not surprising. I've no interest in picking up this one.

I'm not sure there's another company out there who would want the licence tbh. Before Codies got it there wasn't much interest in making F1 games. I suppose they'll always argue at least now you get one every year and they were never going to make it a true simulator.

Well I read plenty of feedback and much of it sounds promising. So this morning I though I'd give it a punt. Only to find out the Classic Edition is a ltd run, sold out now.

Dear Clever Marketing People at Codemasters,

I wont be buying the half of the game you have failed to get right 3 previous years in a row, obviously.

Regards

Burtros.

On the upside, I'll spend the £40 on some new taps for the kitchen instead.

I'm pretty sure the 80s content comes with the standard editions. The classic edition was the bundle with the 90s content and is still available as DLC

^ this! it's out soon.

Anyone on ps3 having trouble finding online races? Tried on Saturday evening but to no avail, and just now on Monday afternoon only found one quick race with two opponents. Nothing comes up when I try to find custom races at all either.

If this continues ill just sell it, multiplayer is 85% of the reason I buy it every year. The fact that it's classic edition is worthless though since it can only be downloaded once >_<

Seems strange.  I play using Xbox, and always multiple games going on, usually several in lobby, Qually or race.  I assume similar numbers on Xbox and PS3.  Perhaps they've having a temporary server issue.

Quite funny how a small team of ~6 to 10 people making an independent mod (in their spare time, for no money, might I add!) can do so much better than a whole dedicated team funded by a large developer including of feedback of numerous racing drivers, doing this as their job!

They should buy a company like Life for speed (strapped for cash, excellent physics) and use a couple of those guys to make a proper F1 game. It can't be that hard to make separate physics for arcade and simulator enthusiasts.

Unbelievable. I share the same experience as others, but I gave up after 2012.

I'm sure you realise that the hardcore sim enthusiasts who have the time, dedication and skill to master a fully realistic sim are not Codies primary customer, and will be able to get their hands on very good sims for their PCs.

The F1 game series is meant to appeal to the masses, so that all of us can experience a bit of F1 in our livingroom/bedroom in our spare time. It's for people who want to feel like an F1 driver, not feel like they are actually driving an F1 car. And no, what Codies have done is not "arcade" in the slightest. It's just accessible "sim-lite".

Really well put, I don't think that the Codie's F1 series sets out to match the fidelity of GPL, LFS or iRacing and doesn't advertise itself as doing so either.
I'm thoroughly enjoying it, it's great fun and demands a level of commitment that this 40's bloke has time for!

I have the PS3 version and the shoddy port of 11 and 12 to the PS3 is thankfully a thing of the past.

That's nothing new, happens with every game. Modding community can produce a much better product usually, given the same tools that is.

Put the difficulty down one for my career, had a brilliant and very enjoyable race in Monaco. Was easier to look after the tyres and keep up with other cars. The highlight was going side by side with Gutierrez through Piscina and Rassecasse then taking him round the outside of Massenet.

STILL can't get any races online.

How could EA Sports get it right 10 years ago, and Codemasters cannot?

When the Codemasters deal was announced, all I would've personally wanted was a continuation from EA's F1 Challenge '99-02' series. For the early noughties, the AI, car setups, weather, physics, crashes etc. were fairly realistic. Imagine what could be done today, I was thinking. But they completely blew it on all these parts. In 2010 this was somewhat excusable, but the truth is that fundamentally nothing has changed since then. Bugs keep reappearing, and personally I just can't stand the fakeness of things such as AI not being traceable beyond your vision, going from algorithmic AI to randomness was just so unfortunate.

'Life the live', classic cars and 'fun' game modes don't make up for these problems, in fact personally it just makes it worse they could've better spent that time on getting the basics right. But I'm not sure if that was ever their plan to begin with. It's just a money machine that has to produce something that sells.

I really hope there will ever be an F1 game again with the right vision, there's just so much potential.

I am having a nightmare with tyre wear. Searching on the internet apparently its my driving, but the AI show no signs at all of slowing? They just come at you hard when your tyres are shot to bits. I( dont want to change my driving style on a PS3 pad either.... I just want to play and enjoy? Its like this year its caught between a sim and arcade and not pleasing either group.

There is no way to complete Spain on 25% career mode in 1 stop that I can see or find after 4 attempts, In the end I opted to set myself a task I could enjoy and that would be a challenge - smash Hamilton out of the race as hard as I could and get Maldonado (my teammate) onto the podium behind a McLaren 1-2. Worked perfectly only Perez nipped past Button on the last lap and the wrong man won. I had a similar problem in China and just retired from that race during my 4th attempt.

Which brings me onto another complaint, trivial but annoying as hell! On my game, Massa always runs in front of Alonso, and likewise Perez in front of Button. Why?

Other than that its very enjoyable, the game wont have a long stay before I trade it in as the tyre wear is not something I have the slightest interest, yet it seems to be the most important part of the game. I buy this series because its not a full on Sim, its now in the land between arcade and Sim and doing neither very well.

I find that too. Get a decent qualifying position but when it comes to the race, I'm giving it ten tenths just to try and keep up with everyone and then my tyres are gone and I have to make two stops anyway. I haven't found how to turn off degradation either, don't think you can. It was there on previous games.

Otherwise I found turning the AI difficulty down a notch helped, maybe leave it for qualifying and put it down just for the races? Works a treat for me.

Legend AI has definitely moved up a notch in this game. In previous game if I started my career with Marussia or Caterham I could get myself near the top 10 by driving at full tilt the whole race and just matching everyone's strategy. I'd be doing nothing but defending my position the whole race but that was accepted because of the car I was in.

Now I've started with Sauber in the new game, and now even with a faster car I'm getting similar performance out of it, except now instead of my teammate being near me at the back as before, Hulkenberg is 10 places up on me in qualifying! There's nothing I can do to get on top of him, except turn the difficulty down one notch, where it then my performance becomes more typical of my car and driving.

It's not like I just play the game with no work on setup or anything that might make my performance poorer at higher difficulty, I do my research on setups and strategy and generally try and do things properly just as before, but Legend difficulty is just too hard for me. It got boring in previous games having to defend a high position every race of my first career season because I was in a backmarker car, but when I'm having to do it in a Sauber for the same positions, doubly frustrating. At Professional level it's much more fun and more like a proper Grand Prix for me.

Caved and bought it on games on demand. This is probably the best F1 game so far, the handling is great. I started my career with Williams, no aids this time around so it is quite a challenge for me in expert mode.

Completely trashed both sets of tyres on my race at Nürburgring today. It's still way too easy to keep faster drivers behind you I think, especially in fast corners. And still way too easy to outbrake someone from miles back.

Still can't get multiplayer races.

I suppose the whole point of difficulty levels is to choose the one that brings you the most enjoyment from the game.

I've got to say I've got the most out of playing the classic content. I've done countless 25% races (long enough to feel like a proper race, short enough to do in one session). I found it was getting a bit easy on Expert level everywhere except Jerez. I find Jerez much more difficult to win on. I'm playing more on Legend now.

I spend plenty of time mixing classic cars on modern circuits and doing similar races on the old tracks with this year's cars. Brands Hatch is tons of fun in all the cars.

I do the racenet challenges when they appear and occasionally do some multiplayer quick matches too.

(I'm playing the 360 version. Anyone else on that version want to add me as a friend on XBL? We can PM each other)

I fixed my tyre wear problems last night. basically all you do is take F1 2013 our of your console, and insert F1 2012.

F1 2013 really is the worst game of the whole series. Whether or not Codemasters intended it, removing the ability to turn of tyre wear means you now cant just pick up and drive as fast as you can for 15 laps as you used to be able too, and thus moves the entire game firmly into 'full sim' category in my mind.

From what I can tell, using a controller (Steering wheels suck and get in the way in my living room) I have a choice to either drive below the cars limits every lap all lap or I run out of tyres long before the end of a race, either way dictating a bad result. Now some people may be happy to nurse a Williams round to 13th place because its realistic and that's fine if they enjoy it, but for me that's utterly boring and not entertaining in anyway. Why cant I just turn it off and get a game I can enjoy?

Onto the trade in pile for me, and I wouldn't recommend the game to anyone sadly.

Got it yesterday and have played it a lot, things I have noticed

- Holy **** the difficulty of the AI is harder (or maybe I'm just shitter)

- YDT is a waste of time

- Cars in race are faster than in qualy

- Retirements finally which is good

- Tyre wear is too high, I did 3 stops in Aus for a 50% race (28 laps), too much, car had no traction out of the last corner

- Handling is quite different and will take a little while to get used

- I enjoyed the race I was in quite a lot however

- I wish codemasters could take the best features of every game and make a solid game, as f12012 was only bad in the areas of ice kerbs, cars running away when they overtake you and maybe this was just be but when I moved from Caterham to Force India, my qualy lap's were of very similar pace (Yes I record my lap times)

So if I buy F1 2013 for PC (boxed version from a Australian shop it should have the full 2013 championship with some 80's cars & tracks?

From my experience the tyre wear is great. Just play with setup in practice to figure out more tyre-saving setup. It will make you slower over one lap of course, but you can always turn down the AI level if it's too much for you.

For the ultimate "arcade" entertainment (I don't have time to play real simulation, I just want to enjoy a race every now and then) I learned to use slower fuel mixture for entire race if tuning down AI makes me too fast for the opposition.

But generally, with a conservative setup I never had tyre issues compared to AI.

Same here. Tyre wear is a lot less forgiving than 2011/12. If you are spinning wheels at every exit and leaving the track many times per lap, you can expect the tyres to go away quickly. I like it, but I can see how can it be really frustrating, especially if you are not completely happy with your wheel setup or if you are using a controller.

I am hearing sales have been very bad for this game? Lots of speculation that Codies wont make another one now.

Im a little disappointed if 2013 is the last ever installment. Although perhaps I shouldnt be if they cant get the game right in 4 goes, will they ever? Perhaps they are hard done by this year? Granted they seem to have got 2013 tyre wear right to reality, but failed to recognise that the reality of F1 this year has very little appeal when crossed over to a game. I still remain utterly astonished they didnt spot that and make tyre wear switchable. Its not rocket science to assume most potential customers don't buy a computer game to simulate a tyre saving exercise?

F1 2013 is the least rewarding, most boring and most frustrating racing game I have ever played. Bar none.

Sales figures are very hard to track in this time of digital sales. That said, Steam is currently offering F1 2013 with a 40% discount (as part of its Autumn sale). That's not very impressive considering its early October release date.

I still don't get why the graphics look several years out of date.
