I thought Mark was pretty funny, although Clarkson really did hog 80% of the conversation. I got the impression Webber went on the show purely for the opportunity of beating Lewis and Seb's times, that's all he was really interested in!

Agreed. Mark was pretty checked out, only got excited for his lap!

Posts removed for being off topic. It is Top Gear. It is light hearted fun. Can we keep it at that?

Interesting lap by Mark. It was quite funny.

You're just angry he trashed Vettel's time. :smoking:

Not at all. In fact I do not care about timing, whatever one wants to conclude of it. Trashy part characterization is related to what were deliberately incendiary, and unnecessary questions. I am sorry for I am missing that "funny" part of it.

In my opinion, Clarkson and Mark's comments about punching Seb weren't light-hearted or funny.

It's all in good fun, no reason to take it so seriously. If you take anything serious on Top Gear then your missing the point entirely.

Oh for crying out loud, really?

I think what was far more telling were the number of people in the crowd yelling "YES!" when he asked...

Seriously Mark has had multiple occasions where I would not have blamed him one jot for punching Vettel in the face. But he's a bigger man than that.

Anyway, Mark was faster than Vettel, yes yes yes yes yes. That was ALL I wanted.

Also, yay Mitch sighting!

Obviously not for a Vettel fan. As the high majority of F1 fans would love to see Vettel get hit I think they were hilarious.

Wow, I'm shocked! What a sexist comment! You should be ashamed....

... the topless part should be saved for when their girlfriends join the fray. :p

I dont see it as sexism, just a little good old fashioned homo-erotic bloodlust :p

I also think most people who work at Top Gear would get a little laugh out of people actually taking it so serious.

Webber just confirmed that he is everything what I thought about him, which is not much. Top Gear is becoming nothing more than a trashy program.

Yes, cause getting to the F1 without shitload of cash and only by sheer talent is not quite an achievement, back then when F1 was still about having a skill not a big bucket or being a protegee of Red Bull.
No doubts that when Mark will read your comment, his dreams will be shattered and he will disappear in the void.

I'm sure that any result can be interpreted in favour or against Hamilton, Vettel and Webber depending on what you like to see. :p

From what I see it's clear cut: Lewis is the fastest - but we knew that, didn't we? And Seb is certainly flattered by the RBR intra-team situation. In equal material he is not faster than Mark.

People actually discussing which driver could beat up another and how 'manly' they are? Are we in high school again?

This lap time shows Top Gear is or messing around with the times or the Liana is way faster than last year because of circumstances. The difference between Hamilton and Webber is acceptable, but the difference between Vettel and those 2 is too silly to accept as reality. Judging how Vettel is mostly a few tenths faster than Webber, he would be able to match or beat Hamilton's time if driven under the same circumstances. Unless Top Gear is really messing with the times because it is an entertainment show in the end.

The real test would be the ROC event where every driver competes with each other at around the same time in the same cars in similar circumstances. But for some reason or another, people like Alonso, Hamilton and Webber decline to go there to properly be tested against the best drivers in motorsport.

Its a car. Condition of tyres, condition and servicing of the engine, track temperature, air temperature would make big differences.

Also I think its pretty clear Vettel is only faster than Mark is a certain type of car. 2012 showed us when you add in instability Seb really struggles.

2012 Seb won the WDC too tho... ahead of Mark... and it isn't so clear as you make it out to be... after all we could say everyone is better in certain cars than others are in the same..

I think you need to look less at Seb but more at Mark who wasn't able to deliver the same performance as Seb over the last years

Topic: I never noticed before how early the professionals chuck the car sideways into the second last corner (Gambon?).

Battle? mate, these are light hearted jokes. No one would like to seem them fight. It is just a matter of fact that Mark would smash him if such fight would happen. And he is way more manly, cause he is like Professor Badass in Formula 1.

Manly? If he was manly he wouldn't whine all the time... :p if he was manly, he would stand up for himself instead of utilizing his popularity to bash on Seb, if he was manly he would act instead of just talking...

being manly or not is not only a question of size, muscles or a beard

Great interview, but you can notice how edited it was if you watch closely where Mark maybe elaborated on things, but they just got the main quotes they were after.

I liked when they started talking about the gear going into Gambon, and you get rare insight into the mind of a racing driver.

my ultimate wish would be that top gear get both seb and mark on and do a head to head race in the suzuki's (they have more than one), and they destroy both of them in the same vein as days of thunder hire car scene!

Or maybe Red bull themselves steal that idea and do a video of it at the end of the season!

being manly or not is not only a question of size, muscles or a beard

then what he should do? beat him? or beat Horner and Helmut? Or beat all of them, including Seb's garage? If you can say one thing what he could do about "gremlins" in the car or Seb going deaf during a race then give it a shoot :)

and about whine... well rewatch last race for example with Seb trying to overtake Kimi, or Barcelona or plenty of other races. Webber never whined about Seb having superior car, he just said it is ****in ********, and I agree with him, that all these gremlins and **** happening to the car are pathetic.

If we talk about whining during a race, then he could take some lessons from his teammate, cause I can't recall Webber saying smt along: "OMG DO SMT"

So many posters are here are taking Top Gear WAY to seriously. If you've ever been a regular watcher of TG you would realise that particularly the celeb interviews and hot laps are a 'beat up'. Clarkson asked the questions he knew would get the desired audience response and MW played along, nothing to get worked up about. MW will be missed from F1 though, one of the last guys with his feet on the ground and a genuine sense of humour in response to some of the stupid questions they get asked. Would love to see him in an F1 commentary role at some stage in the future.

I'd say Seb would take Mark, Webber looks tougher but that doesn't mean anything and Vettel has already proved he is tougher, besides character defines a man and Vettel has a much stronger character than Webber, Mark is a choirboy who talks a good fight. :p

I wonder if Mark will be handing out T-shirts in the paddock?

I wonder if he'll reserve a special one for Seb?

This was a very typical Clarkson interview and I felt like Webber wasn't anything like as into it as some people think. I don't believe Webber would have volunteered a comment about hitting Seb. I don't think he was on the show to put the record straight or particularly beat Seb so much as beat everybody. These are competitive people.

Anyone getting upset about this show are not really part of the intended audience demographic. It has always taken pot shots at the French, Germans, Americans (Mexicans, truckers, Albanians, Italians, Russians, Australians, ecologists, cyclists, caravan owners etc...) and this episode was no different from those that have gone before. If there's real offence, probably best to write and complain formally to the BBC.

The one thing that made me go "you moron" was when Clarkson said that punching Vettel would be "revenge for Gallipoli". We didn't fight the Germans at Gallipoli, we fought the Turks, and if the Aussies were going to bash up anyone, it'd be the stupid ****s in the British command that threw us onto the wrong bloody beach.

Some people take Top Gear and driving a pile of poo Suzuki way too far.

The bit at the end of the programme was quality though.
