But seriously, this is pretty poor from Massa. He would have a point if he was always close or challenging behind Alonso, but never allowed to show his 'ture' speed.

How many time has that happened? Very very few, and he's mostly been nowhere near.

A good number 2 is there to take points off rivals for the number 1, and to step up when the number 1 isn't able to be there (via faults/crashes in the race). Massa (post accident) has never been that driver.

Do you really think that Bruno Senna closed on him? More like he made a mistake and lost the rear, losing all the momentum.

I posted that as an example of the "it was not my fault" attitude that originates this very thread.

"This". He's had now almost four full seasons to showcase his talents since the crash. But all of a sudden he realises that now might be a good moment to start pushing  It doesn't make sense..

That is not the point that we were discussing, but the comment that Ferrari_F1_fan made that Massa's words were likely taken out of context, and that he will support his teammate in his WDC challenge while trying to audition his talents at the same time now he is looking for a job. Nothing weird there, most people tend to try and look their best in those circumstances.

I am sure that he is not going to start pushing now, but that he has been doing so for the past seasons too, regardless our perception of how successful he was in his performance.

I know, the point is that Senna didn't close the door, he left plenty of space to be overtaken. He didn't manage the overtake because the rear step out, not because Bruno closed the door, as he didn't do that.

A lot of the comments in this thread are short sighted to say the least.  Looking at how the drivers race results compare over the last three seasons and making conclusions on the relative competitiveness of the drivers is foolish.

 

In Formula 1, the cars are prototypes.  When a new part is made and is found to be superior to its existing counterpart, the teams are forced to make a decision on who to give the superior part to.  So the argument of both drivers having the same car is naive at best.

 

Secondly, do you think teams put both drivers out on the same strategy?  Some drivers have their races compromised before the race starts because when teams aren't sure if plan A will work, they sacrifice their second drivers race on a high risk approach.  Webber's win at the Hungaroring is a perfect example of this.   

 

Thankfully for Felipe's sake, he has Germany 2010 to look back to as proof that Ferrari considered his races to be sacrificial to Alonso.  Excuse me, Santandar considers Massa's races fodder for Alonso.  Ferrari are just the puppets who do whatever the cash tells them to do.

 

I for one salute Felipe.  Should have been champion in 2008 had Ferrari not dropped the ball.  The guy even sacrificed his home GP win in order for his teammate, Kimi, to win his only title.  In spite of all this, all people do is look at the final points standings and claim it as proof of his short comings...

There was a rumour here in Italy this year around the Monaco GP(I am sure you remember Massa crashes).

Some "guys"(very respected pundits) were sure that Massa was using a "different" car during that race. He was basically testing parts during the race(and has done so in many others) according to them.

Asked again about his comments in the build-up to the Singapore Grand Prix Massa said:

 

“I don’t help Fernando, I don’t help Ferrari, I don’t help anyone, I just help myself.”

 

“I plan to do the best I can for the last seven races, coming at the end of what has been a fantastic and very long career with Ferrari,” he added.

Massa was informed about his replacement by Domenicali on an informal chat in his office, Tuesday after the Monza GP.

Massa said he was kind of expecting for it and in the end he was relieved bcs working for Ferrari means a lot of pressure all the time.

Unless I am mistaken, Massa is still in the employ of Ferrari and as such he is under contract to do as instructed... He will not achieve his aim of impressing potential employers if he is made to sit out the remaining races... just a thought, he may have spoken out as a knee-jerk reaction but I fully expect Massa to be just as compliant as ever come race day.

Someone should tell Massa that he still has a contract with Ferrari. Does he want to help himself? Does he want to show everybody how good he is as a driver? perfect, the best way for doing so is stealing as many points as possible from Ferrari rivals. He just have to beat Vettel, Hamilton, Raikkonen, Rosberg, Webber I am sure that nobody inside Ferrari  has prevented him from doing so during these years. I only can say, please Felipe, help yourself.

If he is made to sit out because he is winning races, which obviously is what he want, then he will indeed impress other teams.

He is delusinoal if he thinks he will ever win a title in F1.

No top team will take him, only a midfield team is interested in him because he will bring Ferrari secrets with him that might help them.

Only chance for him to win a race next year if he finds himself in a car that is 2 seconds a lap faster then everyone else.

He wont win the title because he will somehow screw it all up by him self Like Barichello did at BRAWN GP

I don't even see him in mid level team to be honest.

And come to think of it, low level teams require "special" funding, so effectively his out of F1 for....ever I guess.

Look at Massa attack in FP2 at Singapore, he's actally attacking himself.

Mid-season driver replacements did not turn out well for Ferrari in 2009. The team still has some chance of finishing second in the WCC, another "Badoer" fiasco would pretty much reduce that to zero.

The difference of course is that 2009 Massa was actually contributing to the team. The slow, crash-prone Massa of 2013, who now declares he is driving for himself, is worth next to nothing to Ferrari. I'm of the opinion that Kobayashi could step in and do a reasonable job.

The difference is also that even if Massa isn't doing very well, he is still getting some points, which can't be said about Badoer, who could only dream about a top ten finish. And Fisichella didn't get any points either though he finished in top ten once I remember. 

I am not sure Kobayashi would do better or even match Massa, though he had a good record in 2009 as a replacement driver, being instantly on pace.

It's not like this is the first time he is faster in Q this year. It's just 8-5 I think. But Massa still hasn't finished in front of Alonso in the race.

But I didn't realise it was that close in quali, thanks for the info! Thats really surprised me actually, I think I had just started taking it for grated Alonso was doing a better job and stopped paying attention... interesting.

I like Alonso and he would be my 'choice' to win the title, but I also like Felipe - I'd like to see him get a few 'wins' over Alonso in the remaining races.

Alonso has never been a one lap wonder, Felipe is always close there. Tomorrow, we will see yet another Alonso fight for the podium, and a Massa race somewhere in the ocean of the midfield.

And I'm saying this as more of a Massa-fan than an Alonso-fan.

Beyond Lotus, Massa is waiting for the McLaren situation to resolve.

Jenson wanted a 2 year contract going through the McLaren-Honda period in 2015. However they insisted in 1 year go give Honda the freedon to chose the driver. [What does it mean ??? Honda doesn't regard Jenson high ??? Anyway Jenson finally accepted a 1 year deal.

Perez is not signed yet for 2014. He wants more money.

So there is an opportunity for Massa.

FIndia is the team running after Massa, but he isn't much interested.
