Charlie Wallace in New Zealand has confirmed that his brother Bob of Lamborghini fame has died aged 75.  Bob, ex-development engineer and chief test driver at Lamborghini during 20 years in Italian motorsport, was working in his favourite place, his Phoenix, Arizona workshop, when he suffered a heart attack. Bob was a great help with research for my book "Enzo Ferrari's Secret War" which includes a 12-page tribute to the Kiwi who never lost his New Zealand accent. - David Manton.

Very sad news. I've been a Lamborghini fan since the mid-sixties when I hitch-hiked to Malcolm Guthrie's house in Belbroughton to ogle at one of the first Miuras imported in to the UK. Bob was (literally) a vital driving force behind the engineering on the early generation of Lambos, even the ones he didn't particularly care for himself ! RIP Bob, JohnP

I too have been a fan of the raging bull marque since childhood. For years, my father worked across the street from Bob Wallace Cars on Magnolia Ave. As a young teenager, I once called up Bob Wallace to ask about getting a job. I had no experience, just a love of cars a racing. He didn't have an opening but talked to me for a while and asked about my career aspirations. He recommended getting a degree in mechanical engineering. Here I am 25 years later, an engineer, working for a company that designs the MGU-H for F1 engines.

I still remember that phone call. Bob Wallace will be missed.

His workshop is on a rather smart road - but the operation seems to be a very low key affair with no reviews or any forum mentions.

Was he himself still owning /driving  a Lambo as his personal car ?
