A little comparison between midfield drivers

Was looking at career points at statsf1.com and it just striked me fascinating, how close five midfield drivers have been scoring over a period of time.

Those are - Kobayashi, Sutil, di Resta, Hulkenberg, Perez.

Below I give points since 2010 with the scoring system staying the same.

The staggering thing is that all of them have participated in 3 seasons out of 4!

2013 isn't of course over yet for all of them bar Kobayashi, so they will add to the tally.

The points are

Kobayashi - 122 (3x Sauber)

Sutil - 115 (3x Force India)

di Resta - 109 (3x Force India)

Hulkenberg - 104 (1x Williams, 1x Force India, 1x Sauber)

Perez - 102 (2x Sauber, 1x McLaren)

Any conclusions? How do these five midfield drivers rate against each other?

Do you think Perez has underperformed compared to other midfield blokes, considering he is now driving a McLaren (not a good car, still a bit above other midfielders) and that the 2012 Sauber was very good?

I don't think you can use their points to compare them... particulary since this years Sauber is really terrible and Nico could have performed on similar level to last year at Force India if the car had been as good as the Sauber was last year

As Sin said, points are obviously not the whole deal here, but it's interesting that they're pretty close. Personally I'd take NH first pick, then there's little to choose between them; KK & Perez perhaps have more flare, but the FI boys are probably more consistent.

It's interesting how close they all are and that they've all participated in 3 out of 4 seasons... but conclusions? I can't see many.

I'd argue that this year's McLaren is probably worse than midfield, I can't argue with your presumption of the 2012 Sauber though. It was a very good car, esp. around high-speed and high downforce circuits.

Looking down the list, I certainly wouldn't rank them like that in terms of how good I think they are, so in my opinion, there's nothing much to be taken from it. 

Another case of points not telling the story, as is often the case.

You can't argue that, when the car is as obviously "midfield" as it gets. In fact Williams or even Sauber would have been overjoyed if they had had Mclaren's car this year.

You could argue that, but with Jenson's points Perez would be leading this statistic. 

this just proof they are all on similar level and ok drivers but not top drivers, except maybe Hulkenberg but that´s yet to be seen.

the ranking looks very solid. diResta should be ahead of Sutil, but apart from that the ranking is okay.

But they're 'best of the rest,' the top ranked team after the four teams that consistently challenge for podiums.  That's textbook midfield (and the front end of it).  

Any conclusions? 

 

That Hulkenberg is seriously over -rated?
