(Apologies to the mods, I tried to find the old Cevert thread but couldn't see it)

Today marks 40 years since we lost Francois in that truly horrific crash at Watkins Glen.

I'm very happy to see Sky mentioned him and even had a programme on him, I cannot comment about the BBC, wasnt watching them.

I still remember that day vividly, I'd been into F1 for about 3 years and already had 'lost' one of my heroes in Rindt. Then we lost Francois, a future WDC I am sure!

RIP my friend, we will never forget you.

I watched the tribute on Sky, I thought it was guite good, though it didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. It was nice that they marked the anniversary.

François Cevert's accident was the first driver fatality that I can remember when it happened. It's hard to believe that it's 40 years...strangely enough it was that 1973 season which started my interest in F1...

RIP Françcois...forever remembered...

A win for Francois in the 1969 F.2 race at Reims.

Don't get too excited about the apparent close finish - ONE of these eight cars was a lap behind.

Was the Sky programme from Monthlery. A friend went and said that it was a moving and sentimental occasion.

I wouldn't stand there with the chequered flag if I could help it.

Glyn,

You may have seen them already, but the last couple of pages of this Autodiva thread refer to the Montlhéry gathering.

from Monthlery? I wouldn't have thought so....Sky don't exactly spend a ton of money on their features.

Thanks for pointing me to Autodiva, I haven't been on there for ages and I should have said the town, not the race track at Monthlery.

The BBC mentioned it briefly, but no feature.

RIP Francois, although before my F1 time I know enough to know that he was a star in the ascendancy, and any loss is tragedy.

the death of francois cevert was probably my first experience of a racing fatality,a truly shocking accident thats haunts me to this day.

i often think of the "what ifs",cevert racing against lauda, hunt in the following years would have been interesting.

he deserves to be remembered for the lovely guy he apparently was.RIP.
