Hello All

My friend has bought a F1 tyre Goodyear Eagle.

The guy who sold the tyre to him he said that has maybe been on Schumacher F1 Benetton but he was not sure, my question: are this tyre a replica og real, and how can you determ that this is real or fake...

I have tried to contact Goodyear but stil no response.

I hope you can help me with this.

Im having a little problem with uploading the pictures of the tyre, I can email to you the pictures.

Used F1 Goodyears were common at one time for sale. The local Rover dealer bought one for some reason, I suspect possibly given by the Goodyear rep. Had a close look at it and it had a series of markings on it. The tyre supposedly came off Mansell's car and the markings allowed for a good guess as to where it was used. Practice at one race where Mansell spun on the 1st or 2nd lap, little wear and big flat spot scuff. It was a long time ago and can't remember the markings, but they seem to be missing from your tyre

If you open the 2nd picture from top, I draw a red arrow on the little sticker there is 4 digits: 9455

I dont know what that means?

"94" = Year of production, i.e., 1994 ?   :confused:

"55" = Day of production (55th day of 1994) ??

Does the width match the width of the tyres used in 1994?

That tyre looks like it hasn't been used - it still has the flashing on it from the gaps in the mould.

If it had been used the teams would usually paint their own markings on it - things like when it was used, which car, which wheel (e.g. left front or right rear) and how many laps.

It could have been fitted on a car that wasn't raced, either as a show car or for moving it around (they tend to use wets for moving them around since it gives a bit more ground clearance).

Normally date codes are moulded into the tyre in a bubble like the one that says 10-21 but the date code is usually week of production and year of production - which 10-21 clearly isn't.

5LTVW811 could be the date code if it is an 8 and not a B - prior to 2000 they used 3 digit codes so 11th week of 1998, the previous characters might be the factory code from where it was made.

This has helped my memory. You would at least expect corner mark, set number. car ident and possibly a colour mark strip for race.

Well...thank you so far for the info you already posted, I will bring this to my freind.

And I remember on the top surface of the tire where the grooves are, there is a handwritten number with a yellow marker...same digits 9455

I dont know why its there?

Like you said if its a racing tyre the teams mark their tyres with (stencil or template) i dont know the word for it.

Hi,

According the photos that I've left , it is a '85 or '86 rain tyre

Why ?

Eagle has appeared early '85 ( only Good Year until '84 )

After '86 , F1 has been embossed near Eagle

This kind of pattern was typical of '85

I'm afraid that it too early for a Schumacher's use

but it is an F1 authentic tyre , no doubt

Bye

Gilles

Mmmm. not sure about when the "F1" logo appeared. Here's a pair of '88's:
