Help! Soviet Single seater racer... What car is this?

i'm a big fan of old historical photos and articles regarding Soviet union and ti's history, legacy, lifestyle etc etc etc ... but specially it's engineering and machineries including cars. 

while looking at old soviet era automobiles, i came across this beauty   it's a single seater racing car from the soviet era (atleast i think it is  ) but i couldn't find any information, nor even the name of this car and i'm not even sure if it raced or a show car. 

so please, someone help me with identifying this car, and if possible any information (links/quotes/book names)

You'll see the abbreviation many times there.

Engines were typically from serial Soviet cars.

awesome link ... it's very interesting in how the DW12 and the new formula E car looks quite same with this one. i wish F1 would follow the wheel covering bodywork that'd reduce drag related to the open wheels.

I am sorry but have mislead you a bit. Wrote the answer on memories but the abbreviation kept dangling in my mind and in a moment I realized it's not what I wrote initially.

МАДИ means "Московский Автомобильно-Дорожный Институт"  - "Moscow Automobile and Road Institute". Currently it's called "Moscow Automobile and Road State University".

In the old times of the USSR I used to buy a Russian magazine called "За рулем" - "Behind the Wheel". And there were a lot of materials about such cars, innovations and innovative ideas. But they remained only as technical exercises in the universities or the design bureaus of some of the state automotive factories. Sport cars design and building was quite popular in Estonia being one of the Soviet republics. The car on my avatar is a real one made by a Bulgarian race driver. There was a class called "Formula Ester". This particular car incorporated an engine from a Soviet Lada car (based on Fiat 124 original engine) and transmission from Skoda (with rear mounted engine).

I have lost track since then what are people doing in contemporary Russia, but I can say there are very creative and smart brains there.

There is some confusion with the cars designations - the ones on my web page seem to be incorrect, and Igor Ermilin, one of the designers of MADI single-seaters, says that the correct designation should be MADI 0213/1. Wouldn't that sort of defeat the point of OPEN WHEEL racing?

I recently came across this 1967 picture. Can anyone identify the four cars (#21, #37, #40 and #6)?

All four are nameless self-built cars from Leningrad. #6 is from "Aeroflot" sports club, built in 1967, #40 and #37 were built in the taxi company no. 2 in 1962 and 1963 resp., and #27 (it seems to be 27, not 21) is not known to me but it's definitely from one of Leningrad taxi or haulage companies.
