Stop with the suicide speculation based on nothing. It's disrespectful.

The human brain is the most complex object known in the universe.  Mark Donohue died of bleeding on the brain after he had been lucid and walking around.  Brain aneurysms have taken away so many people unexpectedly.  It's a terrible irony that Maria has died just when about to launch a book celebrating the gift of life.

It's never easy, but at least she had an extra period of time with her loved ones, that she might never have had. 

As Mario Andretti said, unfortunately, racing is also this.

What a tragedy. RIP Maria. 

No death of a 33 year old can ever be described as natural. Especially in light of the battery of tests an F1 driver undergoes. It's shocking news and one wonders whether she received enough psychological support from her support staff. She probably had access to plenty of prescribed medication. Suicide looks the likely cause which makes it a double tragedy.

After the injuries she sustained, I wouldn't be so surprised of a sudden but natural death.

Anyway, very sad.

It's hard for people not to wonder, when it hasn't been ruled out as a possibility.  What she's gone through in the last few years, is more than most people would be able to take.  It's just really sad all around, regardless of what the cause is.

It could be heart attack as posted above. Polish Olimpic medalist (if I remeber well) died young suddenly because of thrombosis. Can happen to anyone and when it happens the death is sudden and impossible to rescue.

Very sad....

It would be so tragic if its discovered that her dead had nothing to do with her accident and just a sudden death, which can happen to all of us. She fought so bravely through tough moments. 

We must cherish every single day when we are here and alive.

None of us have a clue what happened and nor should we.

I guess we will have to wait for the autopsy before we add de Villota to the list of fatal accidents...

It is a normal reaction when a woman of 33 is found lifeless in a hotel room, in any case: you cannot call it natural at that age. Really sad news. I wonder if any of the teams are going to put tributes on their cars for her this weekend?

I guess Marussia might do something as she drove for them; although there was some dispute over the cause of the accident.

Nobody here is saying that. We're simply saying these internet experts who have already come to the conclusion of how she died (when there is no official confirmation) should really stop. What is it really achieving? Nothing.

She had a terrible accident with massive head trauma and brain injuries to the point it was a miracle she survived. She was undergoing periodic medical checks so it is not any healthy 33-year woman found dead in a hotel room.

Speculation is not appropriate at this time. The facts will come out in due course. Please don't speculate and please don't encourage others to.

I would like to go off-topic for a little tiny moment (I hope it's okay) and explain the detail about the funeral possibly taking place this weekend, because I know people from more northern parts of Europe might find it weird or even suspicious.

In Spain, it is customary to carry out funerals and burials (or the option the family chooses) as soon as possible, usually 24 to 48 hours after the person passes away. Therefore, it's very probable the funeral takes place as soon as the authorities give her back to her family.

Speculation is not appropriate at this time. The facts will come out in due course. Please don't speculate and please don't encourage others to.

Wow a fit sport person (non smoking or drinking as well) dying due to heart attack at 33, no hope for me then.

Her family posted this message on her Facebook page short after her death:

"Dear friends: Maria has left us. She had to go to heaven like all angels. I give thanks to God for the year and a half that he left her with us."

I'm surprised the Spanish police would make a statement like natural causes without having seen a coroners PM or seen a toxicology report.

thought of possibility of thrombosis too. Some drugs are known to have risks to cause the symptom, and it could be due to the drugs she might have been taking for the injuries.

Even if it's not, heart attack can occur, and to anyone. We constantly hear deaths of athletes (or any healthy famous people) by heart attack. It's not strange at all.

For Maria's case it's inevitable to some degree that speculation goes bit wild, but reading what's coming out so far, it look to me that she tried to live until last minute.

That she had severe headache last night is so painful coz that can be due to the injuries, and she couldve been suffering such condition time to time. Imagining what she's been through - losing eye, head injury and aftereffect, and heart attack - , it's just too painful..
