Ferrari's tyre statergy

What the hell did Ferrari do? I have never ever seen something silly like that. They want Fernando to start on the medium, okay, but why then wasting two sets of new tyres?

They did it at the Nürburgring, but they confessed it and admitted they wouldn't have need to set any lap on that set cos it hurted them in the races and couln't actually gain any benefit by starting on the harder, but used set. 

So IMO Ferrari would have needed to let Fernando qualify on the soft (considering the Q2 times, he could have set the 2nd (!!!) best lap OR keeping him in the pit which would have enabled them to start on the fresh set of hard.

Well...this is the same team that sent Kimi out on wet tires in the dry in Sepang a few years back 

I love Ferrari and they have had good startegies with Fernando in the last two years, but what the f...? Oh my God! ALonso would have been second fastest.

He cut the corner (well everybody did) but Ferrari need to make sure his time would not be deleted (and start from 10) so he post new lap on new set.

btw Webber did the same move in the same place in Q2 did he made another lap? if not he should be deleted from Q3. 

Both Alonso and Webber run around 3-4 meter off the track.

How many new medium sets do you have?  Aren't 3?

If I'm not wrong Alonso only used 2, both in Q3, so he has one fresh medium set for the race.   The only one he should need in the 2 stops strategy.

So 2 efforts trying to improve you grid position was okay.

He has to start with the one he qualified on. So OP is asking if it was not better to keep it fresh and start from 10th by default instead of trying to set a time, ruin the tires and get just 8th. At least that's what I understand

I don't quite understand how starting on hards could work. It's a dissadvantage in qualifying, in start, and in pit stop timing. It may be an advantage to do a long first stint, but propably only in case you can do one stop less than the others.

 

Why did Alonso not do a run on the softs in the final part of Q3? He was only 0.3 seconds slower than Seb in Q2, and even if he had merely replicated his time of 1:24.8, he would have been on the front row.

 

 

 

He would have been on the second row not the first. Don't get me wrong, I agree with the sentiment, but his Q2 time would have gotten him P3.
