Goodbye and thank you Mark Webber

Goodbye mark. You have provided us with many good memories. Some of them funny like some of your antics in the press conferences which were always entertaining. A good driver that in his day was as good over one lap as anyone and although he may have not won a championship in f1, one may still be within reach in another racing series. Thank you mark webber and best wishes in the future.

I always felt he was kind of like Gerhard Berger in that regard. Never quite shone like the superstar, but looking back, god damn talented.

 At home dicing with champions and respected greatly by them. Schumacher, Alonso, Hamilton, Button, Villeneuve et al have raved about Webber's driving at some point or another.

Only if we are under the illusion - created by F1 propaganda - that there are no better drivers or at least those with equal talent in other series.

Just a shame (for him) that a world champion capable driver got paired with Seb the moment he landed in a decent car

I've been a fan of Mark Webber for many years and I'm sad to see him leave F1.  However it would be great if he could win his last race and increase his win column to an even 10.

I don't know if Mark ever peruses this forum, but in the event he does, I would like to thank you Mark for all the great memories over the years in F1. I wish you great success in your new racing career.

I disagree to a extent, I think Berger at his peak was a tier above Webber.

Berger matched Mansell when both were at their peak as teammates at Ferrari in terms of performance (Mansell outscored Berger, as reliability problems led to Berger only finishing 3 races, which he netted a win and 2 second places) ,and was made to look a worse driver than he was at his peak by Senna. A aging Berger was still decent enough to outscore a youngish Alesi in their 2nd year head to head. Berger is what I would call tier a tier 2 driver, on par with Mansell and the aging Piquet, below Senna, Schumi and Prost.

I would not put Webber at the same tier as Berger, the are plenty of other drivers like Irvine and JPM, who came as close as Webber did to winning a WDC, but did not. Webber caught Seb very young, and whilst he was still at his peak, 2009-2010 make Webber look better than he actually was, the more Seb evolved, the more it showed that Webber was not actually that good. Webber was washed up by mid 2012, still a decent qualifier, but a lot to be desired elsewhere. The teammate head to heads resembled Schumi vs Patrese in 1993 at times between him and Seb. 

It is again very hard to measure drivers from different era's, but I do rate Berger as being better in his era, than Webber was in his era.

I say Webber is tier 3, below tier 2 which would include Rosberg, Jenson and depending on your preference Lewis/Kimi. Probably on par all time with the likes of Irvine, and if I am being generous D.C and Rubens.

Well a couple of years ago my kids contacted “all” of the F1 drivers asking for a signed photo for their Dad as they wanted to chear him up after aclong and very painful divorce.

Yes I received a photo from most of the F1 grid’s PR departments along with the appropriate laser printed signature. But guess what,
? one letter was different, yes it had the requested signed photo but this time it wasn’t just a laser signature it simply read “Sorry to hear about your troubles Mate, keep your chin up, you’ve very luck to have such great kids, Best regards Mark”.

Says it all about Mark Webber and a hell of a lot about the other drivers.

Thanks Mark, your a Gentleman in my book, thekids and I will miss your presence in Formula 1.

A shame that Autosport have not run any proper farewell articles to Mark. Even Massa got one and he is just switching teams.

Been a fan since as a sleepy 11-year-old I disobeyed a rare direct order from parents not to watch the 2002 Australian Grand Prix live. He was a bit unusual for an up-and-coming talent then and he's a bit unusual for a top-level racing driver now. One of the few sportsmen in a grid full of superstars and wannabes.

I'll make sure I get down to Silverstone next year for the 6 hour.

Mark has become a legend in F1. It's such a shame he couldn't get over the line in 2010 before Seb got his form on. Some amazing wins, drives and moves from him but perhaps most for his character. A true straight shooter the likes of which we won't see again in F1. Feels like the end of an era in this respect more than him being on the grid.

Oh man, I just shed a tear watching Mark's retrospective on the BBC.

I hope it's Multi21 today, even it's like Austria '02. I'll be watching the WEC with increased interest next year, thanks to quality drivers like Mark and Seb Buemi.

One of the last drivers of the "no bullshit" era...

Very nice touch as a goodbye to fans...riding without a helmet, I would have not expected that one. Good race Mark, and good luck. 

Congratulations. just think, Retirement on Sunday and you can't get to sit down with some tinnies and watch the cricket on Monday.

Thanks to Mark Webber, I will miss him in F1 and I wish him the best in his future projects. I will remember his last moments on the track, the man inside the helmet, I like that.

Great finish to a good career. Really enjoyed him driving without his helmet!  Such a shame he didn't get one final win this season but at least he had some solid podiums. I look forward to see how he does next year at Porsche.

That's the right way to bow out of F1.  Podium place, fastest lap and securing 3rd in the WDC. Hopefully more success ahead for him.
