Top idea Lee - it was 42 and extreme fire danger day.  Just after we had unloaded cars and tools etc etc there was a call to a meeting for all competitors where we were told the meeting was postponed until a yet to be announced date.  Maybe in the future the first meeting of the year will be held in March, this February meeting is usually too damn hot for both cars and drivers let alone the flaggies and other officials.

Yes, I have had the report. They could have cancelled it yesterday saving all the entrants a pile of money. Though many meetings have been held there in similar conditions. All the infield and surrounds are well mowed. as for March, the hottest I have had at Mallala was an Easter meeting where it was so hot and a stiff hot northerly wind I had drank the esky dry by lunchtime, softdrink, water, ice and a couple of beers. No I was not driving!

The E series ute is far prettier and well accessorised too.

It is the sole surviving prototype. It was bought from Leyland by my good mate John Smidt and he owned it for a long time before it was passed on to the new owner who has done a great restoration job on it.

And where would we be without "Coopers" ?

 

I did some building work at Coopers Statenborough Street brewery in Leabrook, during the late seventies, if I remember correctly.

 

I went out to site-measure the main driveway which was covered by an old timber-framed canopy.

 

We were replacing it with a new steel framed construction which would allow them to load their delivery trucks

with modern fork lifts without hitting the roof.

 

When I'd finished measuring up, one of the Cooper brothers asked me if I wanted to meet the oldest employee in the company.

 

He took me into the stone building on the eastern side of the site, & we went into a room occupied by a stainless vat.

 

He opened the lid, showing me the brew inside, saying that I was looking at the yeast that his ancestor Thomas had used to brew beer

way back in the 1800's.

 

 

 

 

That isn't the P76 wagon that was in Cootamundra, is it?

 

I'm sure it was too rough to be looking like that now. Michael Livingstone had it.

There is only supposed to be 1 left Ray,the other 2 were broken up,but who knows,Zetland was a mess the last few years of operation with anything not bolted down going missing.  

A shame I never took a photo of Michael's when I saw it...

Looks to me like it was being used on the farm for quite a while after the tailgate had gone & the guards rusted out.
