Hamilton clash with paddock security guard at Melbourne

Hamilton did not produce his pass and was still allowed through. So by your logic the security guy was not doing a good job, surely? Personally if I was manning that gate I would have seen him coming and thought "oh look, it's the world famous and instantly recognisable Lewis Hamilton" and I'd have let him through, but that's just me.

He was probably hoping to make a name for himself, a bit like the fourth official in the clip below.

Lots of ways to look at it and most don't paint either person in a bad light

He did his job as he challenged Lewis who responded and by that response the guard was able to know that it was Lewis rather than someone dressed like him.

After all hammy was still wearing his helmet.

That's not something to be proud of to be honest.

The security guard doesn't make the rules, in fact he's leaned on to enforce them. Calling him a jobsworth is the role of people who have no idea of what the job entails.

And F1 is pretty anal about access....

To be clear, I wouldn't have let him into a bank vault. I'd have let him into an F1 paddock, bcause he's entitled to go in there. Anyone not entitled to be in an F1 paddock who does as convincing a job as that at disguising themselves as an F1 driver deserves to get in, as far as I'm concerned!

A part of me thinks the guard was joking. If you listen you can hear a voice say "let him in". The gate would not of moved without Hamilton having a pass to activate it so it must of been the guard that opened it for him.

if that was a "clash", then my day must be full of so many exciting clashes. I'm clashing with my laptop right now.

Having seen a couple of incidents like that... i wouldn't joke about it. Bleeding damned scary. I thought of dialling 911, but they were already there, brutalising the chap.

I suspect it was a joke.  The guy wasn't a photographer or marshal so would have clearly been safe from Kimi (that was a joke too...).  You're second comment..... I hope you can claim that to be a joke, given the context!

I now know how to get free paddock access during a race weekend. 

This happened on advert break for SkyF1 viewers, so many didn't see it live - (I had both NBC and SkyGo running - and saw all of it live - was funny)

 

For starters, it was not a 'Clash' (nowhere near) - so I'd suggest removing that bit from the OP's title - misleading....

 

Secondly, I agree with someone upstream - now we know how to get into a F1 event  - Grab a firesuit and helmet, and you're sorted lol - But seriously, you can't fault the security guy for doing his job - All kinds of nutters trying things these days (think Green Peace aye?) ...

 

All that said - it was kinda funny... Broke up a very boring FP session - Gawd pls bring back V8/10/12 - Anything that make noise!!!

Last i remember, you are required to have passes on your person, at the least that is what i remember and most drivers can be witnessed wearing it often to and out of paddock, The guard was just doing his job. Wearing the helmet that Hamilton was, the guard just had to make sure it was not some nutjob trying to gain unauthorised access.

Unless you think a nutter with nefarious intentions who has been able to somehow obtain a full set of this year's Mercedes F1 overalls, an exact replica of Lewis Hamilton's racing helmet etc, when asked for his pass, would say "I'm sorry I haven't got one, I'm a nutter intent on sabotaging FP1 in some way" rather than claiming to be the thing he's disguised as, namely a driver?

About the gear... if you have money a lot of things can be done Basic nomex suit remains just that... so. Helmet, yes it is tricky, but not too much. So yes, if you have a lot of money, and a mind bent like that, the possibilities are there.
