Lap and sector times should be free, as have been since Live Timing exists. There are a lot of interesting features for purchasing an optional premium pack, and I think most of us would pay for them. But paying just for sector times is excesive imho.

It's a rough world. You gotta get paid.
Posted 14 March 2014 - 23:22
Not entirely agreed. Live Timing should be available for desk tops, thats one. If they charge a bit for it, I wouldnt mind.
Posted 14 March 2014 - 23:36
They shouldn't charge for something that has been free for years and is basic for real fans of the sport. Ok, they can remove commentaries, even weather information, but not sector times.
I agree that PCs should also have the option to pay for aditional premium features like smartphone/tablets but both computers and mobile users should have basic timing with sector times.

In the words of Jambi's boss...
YOU pay NOW

If it felt worthwhile I would, but it feel as if I am paying the blood-money to CVS and that I am very very adverse to do if I can avoid it. Moron that I am, I may still buy it depend on how much I much I miss the sector splits today. Presume to much to wish for if hoping someone will set up an alternative timing site? Or is even the times wholly owned by the leeches?
Posted 15 March 2014 - 01:52
If they for some reason wanted to sell me a premium live timing for desktop, I could kinda understand this. But the premium product (the app) is pretty much unusable to me. I watch F1 on my two PC screens. One for the main broadcast and one for live timing. I don't want to look at my tiny smartphone screen.

I borrowed an ipad this morning and bought the app. I have 2 laptops and a pc all windows, and a blackberry. I absolutely hated having no sector times. I would have been more than happy to pay for additional features on my laptop. Now I have to learn this damn Ipad lol. It is showing 18 hours to practice, time is set correctly and set at Sydney, so no idea what is going on. I hope it works
Posted 15 March 2014 - 01:59
I have clearly not been paying attention, so only having a laptop mean I am up a creek? Way to promote your series F1....
Posted 15 March 2014 - 02:05
This might be slghtly off topic, but can anyone who has bought the live timing app answer this question: Is it possible to watch replays on the live timing app? I often watch the races a few hours later, so this would be important to me.

Yes you can download a session any time...I download FP2 and then I could play it or rewind it...quite useful

Yep, there is no sector times just a coloured dot for each sector. I wanted to throw the laptop yesterday, hence the ipad arriving this morning

I have stemmed Spousal Unit on the iPad buying for me idea for 2 years, Bernie and his henchmen are not going to have me cave in.

if you 're that desperate and don't have an ipad/android tablet/phone you can just go use an android emulator on you laptop. You 'll still have to buy the app though if you want sector times

Why couldn't they do it more complicated?
Like a propietary F1 tablet with FIA OS that runs on a hydrogen fuel cell.
I am done with Live Timing as it currently stands, it is not worth it.

I'd be perfectly happy with sector times at the end of the lap... I find too much live timing detracts from enjoyment of watching qualifying.

But wait a moment... the apps are for mobile devices, so how do you get sector times for desktop?

The only legitimate gripe is that they don't have it yet for the Desktop.
If you do own an iOS or Android device and you can't pay a few bucks to get these details, feel free to stop watching the sport. Or you could whine about it and start a poll I guess.

Nobody is saying they will stop watching the sport because of this. It is just another one of the many annoyances this new seasons brings.

On the bright side, the iPad app is about 1/3 the price of last year.

I did. It's not working, all I get is a black screen (using BlueStacks)
Posted 15 March 2014 - 05:33
What next ? you have to pay to visit f1 official website ?
Posted 15 March 2014 - 06:19
I'm not completely against paying for it...but if I've bought the premium season pass then I feel I should be able to access that on my Mac.
Posted 15 March 2014 - 06:21
And Rolex the official Time keeper is sponsoring.... really 'impressive'.
Posted 15 March 2014 - 06:22
So are there any alternatives?
Posted 15 March 2014 - 06:25
I would understand if
1. there would be a way for Windows (Phone) users to get the feature(s) iOS and Android are getting.
2. If I saw Apple and Google plastered on cars. As it is, Blackberry and Microsoft are sponsors in F1, yet have no app.
If Microsoft stops sponsoring Lotus, will they go broke? Or will they not be missing those millions?
Posted 15 March 2014 - 06:37
I like football. If I'm not at a match I can go to the BBC website and see updates for everything on every match. If I want to know how many free-kicks have been given in Walsall v Port Vale, it's there. If I want a stream updating me on every goal as it goes in, I can get that.
If I want to see what's happening in an Indycar race I can get a live leaderboard with everyone's stats - lap times, whether they are rising or falling through the field. When the Winter Olympics were on there were live updates for every sport at every time.
Even NASCAR, a sport that has not known any technological innovation since 1958, has a full updated scoreboard.
Who in the name of all that is holy decided that Formula 1, the supposed peak of technology in any sport, should provide as much information as the Pyongyang Times?
Unfit to run the sport. Indeed, unfit to respire.

Why should I? Why should I run a load of shite for something that is an absolute basic? It's like saying you can't read a newspaper unless you get a barcode emailed to you from Ecuador.
Posted 15 March 2014 - 07:24
It's a bit of a 'free beer yes/no' type of poll, isn't it? Personally, i think there should be free live timing including sector times, but there are obviously many people who are ready to pay for that as a premium feature, so it's understandable FOM are ready to exploit that.

It is not understandable that you can not get it on your desk or laptop.

Agreed, they should just have the option to pay and get all the mobile functionality on a desktop version
Posted 15 March 2014 - 07:29
I don't mind paying the 7 quid but it should be available on desktop.

Most people do have smartphones and/or tablets now, so the group of fans that don't have to opportunity to buy the mobile apps is probably negligible. That's trying to look at it from FOM's perspective, i'm not happy with that situation either.

Another example of the leeches leeching; sucking money out of the sport at the expense of fans and hence teams and sponsors.
Badly done so instead of having both driver tracker and timing together on my 13" laptop screen, in F1LT, I'm swapping between them on my little 5" phone screen.
Not to even mention what could be done with the data by someone with imagination. They have gps data, for goodness' sake, but the bankers don't understand numbers unless they have a $ in front of them.

Really? I doubt it. http://www.bbc.co.uk...siness-25923404
Regardless of that, it does seem a regressive step to reduce the number of ways that the information can be accessed.

Guys does macbook have the app?
No OSX, only iOS.
I must say, that the new iOS app on the iPad is fantastic. At 10€ for the whole season, it's a fantastic value too. To choose between that and the old Java applet is really no contest in my opinion, even counting in the cost of the app. I'm happy to see that the price has come down and the service being enhanced for 2014. I don't think the improvements would've taken place without the paid app gaining in popularity in the past years, and removing the splits from the free service is just a logical step on this path.

I don't have and android phone or anything Apple related so it looks i'm screwed, thanks FOM. Removing the sector times from the desktop app is just feels lame, it's been there since ages.
Posted 15 March 2014 - 08:42
If you have to pay for the tv coverage in the first place then I don't see too much wrong with demanding payment for extra information tbh. It's all part of the same approach to content surely?

No, you can use an emulator for android, I wrote in the others thread what to do, it works fine for my on a Mac, not with the ultimate speed, but I I guess this will be better when new updates for the Apps are provided, the app (for Android) is poorly programmed

Why are the morons not making a pay-version available for the desktop? Effing idiots! Bloody money whores, but at leas take cash instead of some mobile-modulated banking sxxt. They are just full of themselves. So much for being fan-friendly. Dinosaurs! If you want cash, bloody take it cheats, but give a provision to watch it. Now what, are they pimps for smartphones?
I wish we could sue their axx off. They are not going to carry all their money with them to their graves, is it? Pesky irritants..
Posted 15 March 2014 - 09:28
I still can't understand why there is not app for Windows 8... or even phone 8..
Posted 15 March 2014 - 09:32
By that rate, people will have to pay F1 to see race calendar in few years.
Posted 15 March 2014 - 09:32
Much smaller installed base than iOS and Android, perhaps?
Windows?

So we all should buy a smartphone? Internet is not enough anymore? I use a basic phone that costs Rs. 600. My understanding was a phone is for talking and my phone serves that purpose. Why am I expected to have external gizmos like facebook, whatsapp, videogame app, porn-mms app in a device I just need for talking? Do I have to buy an extra device that is 20 times more expensive just for live sector times. Saddist baxxxxds!
