The road registered Elfin Streamliner is Ian Brock in the blue suit with his back to the camera. Three generations of Brocks competed at the event.

I stand to be corrected.....

Ian Brock in the Elfin Streamliner usually uses his age as his race number.......a habit he inherited from the late Ken Virgin.

He was racing with 90 on his car.

Derek Greneeklie (sorry if misspelt) is also 80 plus.

WOW!!

I can remember writing Ken Virgin's "74" on the inside of his Porsche 911 rear side window at Collingrove Hillclimb.

Bob Collinson ASP340C & Beatrice

After a long absence I was there for this meeting and if there were still magazines that report local racing they would have to be talking about Jim Doig's battle with Ian Ross in The Beatrice Lola F1!

I realise that Ian was looking after a prized investment and to be fair, he got quicker all weekend, but the sight of a 1972 1600cc ASP Clubman giving him curry would have been worth TV! (Declaration of interest. Jim and I are long-term friends... and racetrack rivals).

Their coming together in race #2 was a classic "racing incident" where Jim was being his usual cheeky self and Ian did not realise that Jim was a late braker!

Check here for your view of Ian's "Scandinavian Flick" just as Jim drew alongside. -

Serg Deluca Anglia

The Sports Sedans were a very mixed bag. Running as a Supersprint to get some extra numbers and an eclectic mix of proper period cars and quite a few ring ins to make up the numbers.

Serge in what was brother Louies  Anglia. Serge has been around motorsport for about 50 years!

Nathan Mills in the ex Monterosso Escort now with 2 litre Nissan Turbo power which did 10s, speaking to Mick Monterosso Friday he reckons it will do 8s again with the Nissan

Tracey and Bruce Coombe in the late 80s! RX7s which really did not fit in. Though Bruce raced Sports Sedans back in the 70s! Tracey has been around 20 years too in mostly Club Cars.

Myself in the ex Chris Brown 2E Torana, a car that I actually sponsored in the late 80s and 90s and raced as a Sports Sedan a couple of times, and as a Club Car too. I raced Sports Sedans from 81 until 2000.

The RX3 I dont know but it ran out of brakes after the first event.

Simon [PPG] Pfitzner in the ex Barry Bray/ Bill Emeny Stanza Coupe, crewed by Barry Bray who is restoring his older A30 with Fairlady power, as it was in the 70s. Simon was quicker in the Stanza than he was in his stroker Supercar powered Falcon Sports Sedan yesterday at the Shannons meet.

And Graham Boulter in the ex Farrisey/ Peter Rule FJ. A car that has been around a very long time! As has Graham who raced FJs in period,, actually against that car. Though it was grey powered then.

The Datsun 1000 is an Adelaide owner of an ex Victorian car. Not the well known Kieth Linnel car but another whose name I have forgotten. Alastair did tell me but age is setting in. It is a pretty little car.

The field was completed by the Garry and Ryan Brock Centura that was reasonably quick but shook off two balancer outer rings and the fan belt too.

As well as Jon Pillekers from Victoria in his Bluebird that broke a turbo in qualifying and Troy Ryan in the ex Ken Messenger Rover V8 Imp that broke the clutch in qualifying.

I believe Simon  [as organiser] did have a couple more cars supposed to be coming. At a guess the dreaded cost probably precluded that unfortunatly.

I am with you Mick, a Mono is one of the few cars that you see that when you look at one you allways say to yourself "YES"

Yep. Will never complain about seeing Monos at Mallala!

6652 won at it's debut meeting here on 28 Dec 1966, SA Tourist Trophy Meeting. Walker over McEwin.

Great to see Richard continuing to bring her back home every year!

Amazing seeing those pics of the Chrysler retro-car...

The Buick-engined car in NSW was rejected by the CAMS because they reckoned a car with a Yankee engine wouldn't have SUs!

The Buick is now racing in Germany where apparently SUs are OK.

My first post, but a long time reader.

I am intrigued by the names on the side of the Lola, they seem a mixture of owners and drivers.

The one I am surprised at is the 3rd from the bottom "Mike Gore (AUS)".

Is this THE Mike Gore? I thought he was basically a sports sedan driver, never recall him being involved with F5000.

Also why does Frank Gardner have (AUS/US)?

Perhaps Frank Gardner drove the car while in the U.S.  Just an uneducated guess.

http://www.oldracing....com/lola/t142/          A link to old racing cars.....may help, although I suspect Brenton Griguol would know more............

As suggested here http://www.lolaherit...uol/T142_01.htm

Was this Mike Gore a Gold Coast property developer in the late 1980's?

I ask only because it was subject to a bankrupcy order, which was common with Gold coast property developers in the late 1980's.

Who know's but it does look great in Brentons living room.

He was involved in a lot of stuff...

He left behind a workshop in Greenacre, Sydney, to go to the Gold Coast where he became a classy car dealer, then graduated to all manner of stuff including Sanctuary Cove.

He was never involved in F5000 to my knowledge.

I remember Mike Gore driving a Torana Sports Sedan when I was racing in QLD in the late '70s. He was actually quite a nice guy.

From my memory of Mike Gore it would be somewhat of a tight squeeze.

Very tight...

And a very tight hold on his wallet, too. Unless he had someone else's money in there.

Hey, who are we to judge? At least he was out there making up the grid - even though he was not a winner.

Didn't Patrick Head say that AJ used to sit on his wallet?

I can give you names of people who might be entitled to judge if you like...

Gore did do some winning, as a matter of fact. And in Queensland in the ex-Bryan Thomson Torana V8 too.

Did you invest in one of his schemes?  :D

My point is that there was nothing worthwhile about the man...

And I'm told his son, who disowned him, is of the same ilk.

Re Mike Gore, is there any real evidence that he ever owned or raced this car, i.e, a program or photo?

He did race some good cars in the early 70's such as ex Beecheey ATCC winning Monaro and ex Jane Transam Mustang. I thought he then gave racing away.

Ray, re the ex Thomson Torans V8, I thought that went to Greg Crick in Tasmania?

I think the "Old racing cars" may have this wrong about the Lola, and that is whereBrenton Griguol picked it up from. I wonder what evidence they had?

The wording on the "oldracingcars" site is a little strange:

"before being acquired by Mike Gore (Aus) by Lincoln Small (UK)"

This does not read properly!

Mike Gore was in enormous debt by the late 80's from his Sanctuary Cove development. He was desperately trying to avoid liquidation.

He fled to Canada in 1989 to escape creditors.

It is therefore EXTREMELY unlikely that he would be buying this Lola in 1989. He had other things on his mind.....

Lola5000 what do yoiu base your statement on that he owned this Lola?

For background on Mike and Craifg Gore refer to http:/moreongore.blogspot.com.au

Skipping through the financial shenanigans it is interesting to see the deals that both Mike and Craig did with TONY COCHRANE.

I wasn't aware of these before reading this.

Mike Gore died in 1994 in USA.
