This group has been a long term aim and  project both Don Capps and the late David McKinney  have been working towards.

I have just recieved this letter from Don and reprint it in full to let all interested know that progress has been made.

It will be a force for  the research and recording of motor sport history.Congratulations to Don we wish him well.

SAH International Motor Sport History Section

Recently, I was appointed as the chair for the International Motor Sport History Section of the Society of Automotive Historians (SAH).

The serious study of automotive competition history is pretty much under-represented across the board, whether it is classified as being a part of automotive, sports or cultural history.

I am currently using the groundwork that has been established within the SAH and laying out a campaign plan to begin to execute the mission and the goals of the group.

It is my intention that the group be international in its membership and also that the membership be composed of a cross section of those with an interest the serious study of automotive competition history; that is, the membership of the group should be inclusive and not exclusive. Other than membership in the SAH, of course, the only requirement for being a part of the International Motor Sport History Section is an interest in the study of history of auto racing.

There will be more regarding the group as the campaign plan is further developed.

Please consider being a member of this group (and the SAH, of course) once we have the details sorted out.

Thanks,

Don Capps

if it wasn't for having lousy experiences with SAH in the past I might consider joining.

Would sign up with every club lead by Don Capps but if it requires membership of SAH first? No thanks. I've been on that road before and it was anything but a thrill back then.

Folks:

Don has done a lot of groundwork to make this important step happen, so let's give him all the support we can!

At this stage I'm unconvinced of the actual mission and function of this element of SAH.

It seems to me that the fact that it has been struggling so hard to be established suggests that the interest is not there.

Nevertheless I will be happy to support Don and we'll see how it goes.

Sorry to hear that you had a bum time with SAH, Henri. But at heart it is not a very racy bunch of folks -- good on general car history though.
