Comparing to events in Bahrain, I think overtaking may be difficult at the Red Bull Ring, as the S/F straight is not particularly long.  I guess it will be used to set the set the trailing car up for a manoeuvre at T2, it not the move could be completed by T3 so It will be interesting to see how it works out.  As I type this and contemplate further, I think the layout could work very well.

The DRS activation zone on the pit straight should perhaps run the entire length of the straight.

Really? I did not know that. But it sure is the diabolical thought I had when I saw this video.

I think most people (other than the tifosi) were pretty sure it was Michael playing games as usual.

It is funny, but in a way sad, but recently I've been rewatching a lot of races of 1997-2007 on youtube that I saw live back in the day. And almost at every race (especially the combi- Schumacher-Irvine) I think: 'What! You did that on purpose. You bloody...'

1998 was the worst! Man, almost every race there was a shenannigan!

I like that for once they didn't put a DRS zone on the longest straight.

Hehe. Just pray for not a startcrash like this one:

If, say, Rosberg would do what Michael does there, many would swear he did it on purpose to ensure code red (which did not happen in 2000, by the way).

And then we would have a thread like this one. :)

These were the qualifying laps set in 2003. I wonder how much slower this years cars will be.

Only 3 drivers from back then are still on the grid. All world champions mind, so they've earned it I suppose.

A lot of pictures from the circuit.

They've included high kerbs (the yellow ones) to make sure drivers won't cut the corners too much or run wide.

I love this circuit, it fits so well to Austria. Small but neat. And fun.

By the looks of that white line you have to commit to the pit entry well before the Rindt curve.

Looking forward to this, but then I look forward to every race. Although the dominance of one team takes some of the shine from F1, there is always plenty to hold my interest. This weekend it will be ..... Mercedes reliability (or lack of), the ongoing Rosberg/Hamilton battle, fallout from the Massa/Perez contretemps, continuation of Red Bull's progress, and hopefully some improvement from Ferrari. Less than 24 hours away!

I'm still waiting for Hamilton's simulator onboard video.

I wonder if they don't have this track in the simulator yet. Maybe they should import it from F1 Challenge 99-02.  :p

Anyway, I’ve just went through the AmuS pictures and two things stand out (other than the RedBull colour scheme for the tire-walls):

1) All that Astroturf means that LH is doomed. Doomed, I tell ya! And so is the Astroturf;
2) Are camera’s placed on ‘driver-helmet-hight’ in the foam billboards really a good idea?

they dont look too high which is good, i think it might be possible to straddle/cut inside them with the inside wheel, if you could be very precise, not sure its worth it though. turn 1 and last turn :)

anyway, cheers for not messing up Remus with having a DRS zone between T1-T2.

I was there at the opening ceremony in 2011, we spent half of our day up at T2 with my photographer friend. during the f1 historic race, 2 cars failed at the exact corner we were standing at, when the second one (the ligier from 1983, I think) came to a halt at the exit of Remus I even helped the marshal in pushing the car off track  :) too bad my friend was too frightened by the scene to take photos  :D whatever.

And Massa, who drove here in 2002 - but was a test driver in 2003.

Neither F1.com or ferrari.com or anywhere else have any preview quotes from Kimi/Fernando.

F1.com have previews from the other twenty drivers since tuesday, but nothing from the Ferrari drivers. Why?

Maybe because Fernando seemed so absolutely miserable in the press conference and didn't say much.

Well they don't usually look happy in these things and often downright bored but I agree Fernando seemed to take it to a whole new level - maybe he is just fed up of the terrible questions.

Ive got some of those cameras, they weigh about 15g and would shatter on impact, so wouldnt penetrate a helmet

Streckenrundgang-Red-Bull-Ring-Spielberg

This is one of my all time favourite circuits and the races on it have a certain flow or character that is unique. So picturesque. Dat perfectly raked gravel!

After the crashes we have seen this year it feels like there is a hint of danger here this weekend. High speed shunts could be big ones. Looking forward very much to this weekend and the return of a wonderful old style track.

Sector 2 is great. Running the track on gt6 gives you a nice idea of what the cars are dealing with. Exiting turns 4 and 5 I think will be the best. Turn 7 through turn 8 will be interesting to see. They might catch people out and cars will run wide through there no doubt.

Now that is how you sort the runoff.  Have a few metres of grass then have gravel or tarmac.

Indeed.... THIS is how to punish drivers for running wide  :smoking:
