Soooo back to the Osterreichring we go where the hills aren't alive to the sound of V10s any more but the sickly sweet energy drinks will be flowing like wine as the modern sound of F1 returns to the Austrian mountains. Seen as the track is in a similar guise and has been used relatively recently I will use the last race data as the basis for GERCOP 2014. This should add a bit of interest to compare the 2014 F1 cars to those of 2003 which is the last time a race was held here. I'm led to believe the track hasn't changed too much in layout so this should be a pretty straight comparison of 11 years of F1 development. It might be heart breaking to see how much slower these heavier less powerful cars are, the 03/04 F1 cars were probably the fastest ever but we might be pleasantly surprised. Not! Just glancing at the times...
2003 Data
FQL: 1:07.908 (Michael Schumacher - Ferrari) From Friday, not Saturday qualifying. Forgot they ever did that!
FRL: 1'08.337 (Michael Schumacher - Ferrari)
TRT: 1:24:04.888 (Michael Schumacher - Ferrari) 69 Laps.
That is a super fast TRT. Think only Monza is ever much shorter than that. And only 0.4s between qual and race trim. The sprint era of F1 where tyres and fuel could be changed was really the fastest way ever devised around a race track. Don't think any car from any era would get close to those times.
Anyway, you've got 8 days to get your guesses in this time so let's have a full turn out.
My Guesses:
FQL +2.2
FRL +3.1
TRT +360
