Hi All,

I've missed reporting on this, but is Eau Rouge flat out with the new-spec F1 cars?

Think so, only caught a glimpse in practice. Doesn't look any harder than in previous years.

From what I've read for some it was, and some others not. On the live forum McLaren was first mentioned together with Merc, Red Bull and Williams as flat out - and then as a car that was actually lifting.

Probably dependent on fuel load, set up and maybe tyres, I guess. Good sign anyway.

"by the way, Eau Rouge is still flat, even on high fuel." Kevin Magnussen

Andy Green of FI says it depends on your ERS strategy, whether you spend it on the way down or the way up.

Vettel: Easy flat. But Newey says that's because they are not faster on approach because they are missing the power. Ricciardo says flat, but more difficult as at the top of the hill the rear slides and you have to correct.

Bottas says he went flat the first time, the car slides more.

Massa says on the limit on hards, easier on softs.

Rosberg says he takes if flat only with fresh tyres.

Grosjean thinks that it's easy to ruin the tyres when flat on full tanks, so does it only in quali. Pouhon is more more difficult.

FI cannot take it flat, Perez lifts at the top of the hill and Hulk at the bottom. Hulk does not rule out to take if flat but the car is very unstable.

Lotterer said elsewhere that it's flat for him

Edit:

Please someone explain to me:

Nobody in the quotes says flat in which gear. But surely it can't be 8th because that wouldn't be 300 km/h? And anyway, wouldn't the ability to go flat in large part depend on their gearing, which was decided long before and with lots of different tracks to account for, so surely is different for each car? And back when you could change gearing at will, wouldn't you always choose one that was optimal for the lap time, which also would affect different cars' gearing differently, and thus would work out to flat in Eau Rouge for some cars and not for others?

Thanks for it mate!

Depends on how they're gearing really, so can't tell anything about it, as most teams wouldn't want to share it with us forum folks.

FI is no surprise, as they tailor their cars for high speeds and low/ bare minimum downforce, so you could see them compromised a bit compared to others, at some corners.

Correction on Lotterer:

It was nearly flat. I did not want to try it already at the first try on softs, not knowing what exactly would happen. After one slow lap I could already do it nearly without feathering on the second try. We will increase the DF a bit. I hope it will be flat tomorrow.
