It looks like we may not have to wait too long for the first wet race minus the traction control, just checked a couple of forcecasts for Kuala Lumpar on Sunday at there is an 80% chance of rain!

Although how accurate these extended forecasts are, I don't quite know.

Sadly becasue it is easter i will be missing this race, but it would be awesome to see the cars perform without TC in the rain. :clap:

7 cars finished the race in Melbourne. We may have a situation where only the leading car completed the installation lap.
That will be awesome not to say the least!

Unfortunately extended forecasts always show increased likelyhood of "bad" weather.

Hopefully there will be a drizzle, just enough to wet the circuit. Although the Malaysian definition of a drizzle is probably similar to standing under a waterfall.

One thing that has frustated me over the past few years was the number of races forcast to be wet, but turned out to be dry as a bone.

Last year we got what, three? That's about a nice balance. One in 5-ish is nice. Of course in KL - their idea of rain is somewhat different to most other places

I'd like to see LH have the chance to re-visit the challenges of Shanghai and get it right this time. Perhaps KL will provide it.

Hope so, the Ferrari is better in the changeable conditions can run on inters much longer.

Near equator at certain time of the year there will be systematic rain almost clock precision as far as I know.

So weather guys can put that 80%, entirely other matter is will it come when F1 race is one because track will dry very fast on hot climate.

Seriously? That would be 3:00 AM here.. Ugh. I stayed up for Australia which started at 1:00 here, but 3:00 in the morning?? Not when I have to get up at 5:00 AM the morning after.

Here's hoping for a late morning/early afternoon re-run on SPEED (forget TSN, I don't want to hear James Allen).

IN canada EST all races are in the morning thank you. I always have coffe in my hand : (

and Malaysia is at 2:00 am

there is another solution though. make your coffe "IRISH".

Love my morning coffee with a race, kids & wife are still sleeping so it's just me & the dog relaxing with some quiet time.

It will begin to rain after the race has finished. So move the start time up a few hours (5pm local?) and you'd probably get a wet race.

Weather forecasts for Malaysia are often deceiving as it rains almost every day, but usually only at the end of the afternoon. To predict rain therefore is not exactly taking a huge guess, but the real question is if it's going to rain during the race.

For the past week its been raining daily in KL. Usually a slight "drizzle" early afternoon and thunderstorm around 4.30 pm.

I'm not sure what time the race will start (it's either 2pm or 3 pm), but if its the latter...we might see some showers especially at the end of the race.

not sure if I would want to see we race this early in the season given new regulations... remember just two days ago 7 cars crossed the finish line in australia. I reckon it would be 3 or less if it rains in Malaysia

I am also an early morning race fan. No one can ask me to do something or distract me with idle conversation while the race is on. Happy days indeed.

On the issue of rain; I hope it does rain half way through the race, so dry in the beginning and then wet halfway through (no massive rooster tails though) and dry at the end. I want to see the real talent shine, also I got a big kick out of seeing the drivers correcting the oversteer in Melbourne and would love to see some of the same in Malaysia, however a little more sideways please!

would like to think at the very least that the track at some point during the race will be damp,if not sodden. also love the early morning races,forget the reruns or taping it,theres nothing better than watching a race at silly o'clock in the morning

If it rains i just hope Ferrari wins, if anything to just keep the championship tight.

Would be nice to see a wet race. Just hope i don't get up 2 hours after ITV start the bleeding broadcast like Aus GP!! :rotfl:

At least, to paraphrase Monty Python, for you waking up half an hour before you went to bed for the Australia GP gave you the result you wanted.

For us Ferrari lot, it was a midnight nightmare, and when I woke up the second time (at about 10.30) it was particularly distressing to wake up and find that the nightmare was true!

I'm quite happy waking up at 3, 4, 5 am etc. but could the Ferrari team please remember to get their ****ing act together next time please!

Rain in Malaysia....let's hope so :clap:

Living in the eastern US, most of the races are morning races.

My usual routine is this: 6-year old son wakes me up wanting breakfast sometime between 8:00am and 9:00am. Go downstairs. Get him something to eat. Get myself some breakfast. Turn on the TV. Hit "List" on the TiVo. Start the race (which has normally started about an hour or so before). Skip all of the commercials (gotta love TiVo). Get through most of the race before the wife wakes up. Get "the look" from her (the one that says, "I don't understand why you are so in love with that crap.") And, hopefully, get the race finished before she says, "Can I see the remote?" (wifespeak for "I want to turn the channel").

I won't be getting up at 3:00am to watch Malaysia. It will still be there in the morning waiting for me.

According to www.f1.com the race starts at 3pm local time....

But as Mr Jellison says, it's too early to be getting excited, long range forecasts are always wrong.

Just a little update, its 3pm here in Malaysia and the weather pattern seem changed for the worse.

Its dark, cloudy and raining cats & dogs (and probably with several kitchen sinks as well)

3.15pm - it is raining cats and dogs now in Sepang/KL. If this happens during race day, I am sure the safety car would be deploy for safety reason. It was 90F an hour ago...

It is very likely to be a wet race this Sunday, or at least part of the race.

if its as wet as it was in 2001,the safety car will definitely be out,as like murray walker said during commentary,it was more like a powerboat race than a formula 1 car race-traction control or not,those sort of conditions would require the safety car,but would be interesting to see if itd just be a 5-10 minute downpour like in that race and at the nurbrugring last year,or monsoon conditions all the way through

what you wrote above is exactly why I WILL BE WAKING UP AT 3:00 to watch the race. Undisturbed in the middle of the night - kids & wife asleep - just me, live timing on PC, speed channel on tv - what else could I ask for???

That really is very funny because every F1 preview i've read is warning record breaking temps and Ferrari to struggle etc. because they failed in Aus GP.

have attended the last 2 years and no rain until late arvo each year. NOT this year (despite urban myth that i'm am going to surprise them).

at this very moment (due to gadgets via microsoft), thunderstorms and 28' and it's 6.46pm.......(I think 2 hours behind).
numerous Atlas members due to arrive in the next 2 hours so expect weather updates soon, i'm sure that Sith, Matt and Paul will oblige asap..............
