Mosley also admitted he would like to see Formula One where drivers swap teams from race tro race in the future.

"My dream is for a Formula One where the drivers swap cars from one race to the other, to see who really is the strongest

As per Max`s latest quote, the only way to do this is by having the drivers contracted to the FIA.

And how is this any different from having spec cars?

Couldn't that severely damage the outcome of the championship?

Mosley's plan in theory:

Mosley's plan in reality:

Well, at least I know that if this happens I'll have a couple of extra free hours every other weekend to spend not watching Formula One.

Agree, surly it is easier just to have a standard car, probs FIA would go with a Ferrari spec car.
The only problem with that is, F1 would have a break away group after Max put all the F1 companys out of business and would probably be more popular then the proper F1 and kill it.

He wants to undo Ron's advantage with Hammy.

i like the idea, but not mandatory.

The difference with specs car would be that engineering would still be there.

but i think it is impossible to put in place.

Unlikely.

But it would be interesting.

It would also require several races to be run over the weekend, so drivers can switch between several cars.

Too much money to be lost on merchandising and driver/sponsor tie-ins for this to be viable.

11 teams and 18 races. After everyone has had one race with each team, who would get a second drive with a top team, who would have to take two or three drives with the lower budget teams?

Conversely - after the first 11 races of the year, which teams would get the top flight drivers a second time, which would have the rabbits for the final part of the season?

Of course - it might be the case that all cars and all drivers are equally capable of winning, it's just this old fashioned idea of having drivers contracted to a single team that is masking that fact ;)

Agreed, but at least Mosley's heart is in the right place.

This malarky begs for one of those old and overused 'In Soviet Russia...' jokes.

That's a horrible idea. Consistency is one key to a successful series. When I'm at a race track I want to know who is driving which car without having to resort to a program. Max is trying to turn F1 into IROC.

-"Mr Noname F1 driver, you are driving for Team C next race..."
-"Yes"
-"You know, we will win the WCC if they do not score points..."
-"I know, that means, if I am not mistaken, XX million dollars for you?"
-"Yes"
-"Give me 50% and I will walk from the gravel trap"
-"25 percent"
-"Deal, but then I will not walk, send me fat guy with a moped"

It would be fun to see

I do not think it is possible though. Crazy idea.

I could imagine Max saying this over cocktails, just as fun conversation. But in an interview?

Time to go, Max.

His heart might be, shame his brain isnt.

MM seems intent on killing off F1.

Pacients in mental institutions do not have threads for their silly ideas, Max will soon deserve the same.

The idea of a race formula where drivers swap cars to really determine the best?

Great!

But that is not, never has been, and never will be Formula 1.

The key idea for this suggestion seems to me that it means more power and control for Mosley. Please not.

I 'm not sure about that, I rather think his heart intent is what I wrote in my post above.

There are not many sports where they swap equipment, are there?

This was actually proposed and sort of put into effect before the 1982 season. The drivers unionized and had a strike, and the superlicense was fixed so drivers not driver and team combination had the license.

So see "1982 South African Grand Prix" for this, or TNF for the FIASCO war or FOCA/FISA for how it turned out then...
