Don't know if this has been posted yet but looks pretty awesome. Apparently there will be cars from BMW, McLaren and every other team as well

Well... Gran Turismos are not very good as simulators unfortunately, but that's cool i guess.

apart from the fact that you cant do damage, its probably the best simulator available to the public.

Yeah, closely followed by Need for Speed.

Try the GTR games or F1C + mods.

It's not a simulator, not even near one. It's an (good) arcade driving game for a console. If you want real simulators, you need to play with a PC (games like GTR etc are excellent).

Its physical inaccuracies apart, I love all the Gran Turismo games and no doubt Ill be buying a PS3 especially for GT5, those screens look amazing! If they have the F2007, surely they have a road ferrari license also?

As for PC racing- Even though its mostly fantasy (It does have the BMW F1.06 and the Formula BMW junior cars) Id highly recommend live for speed for a brilliant driving and online racing experience.

Iv just had a 10 lap pitstop race in a 911 gt2 type cars with my FF wheel, having to manage tyres with door to door racing was awesome!

actually, GT5P has new physics mode which makes it pretty realistic. Transition to PS3 helped a lot since now they have enough power to do much better physics... and if you combine Pro mode with Sim steering wheel mode and S1 tires, driving any RWD around the track is really hard, as it should be.

Kick back to Standard mode and it feels very arcadey.

I liked GTR as well, bud somehow GT makes you want to work it.

I can't wait until the real version comes out (my husband has been using the Japanese prolog version) - that way I might get rid of the 6 PS2 and 6 TVs and 6 Steering wheels out of my garage and instead of playing lan, they can all sit in their own homes and play online

That F40 ... drool. This is what I bought a ps3 for. None of this F1 Championship crap (worst F1 game I've played).

The BMW pics are fake, at this moment the F2007 is the only F1 car in the game.

Yup those comparisson pics are very nice and all but you won't be seeing models this detailed, whilst playing the game, for some time to come! Consoles and PC's just aren't up for this yet. These images were probably made in some sort of photo/garage mode, still pretty impressive.

For those claiming the GT series is the best simulator, try your hand at sims like GTR2 or GPL I say. These have a far more convincing driving model but truth be told they do lack in gameplay compared to the GT series (which is so damn addicitive).

The OLD Nurburgring?

No way mate!

Do you realise how tight it is to get a licence to put F1 in your product?

You'll only be able to use the F1 cars on the available circuits that acutally featured in the 2007 F1 season.

Indeed, I hope you have atleast played the Demo on a true HDTV before you made that comment MSC. The graphics will be second to none, and the true power of the PS3 is only starting to show! Even in the demo the car models are absolutely fantastic. It's one of those games you turn on for the first time and your jaw drops when you see the Supra in the beginning. :) For what it is worth, the first pic of the Ferrari by spwolf looks to be from in game.

Oh I know the graphics will be very good, my comment was specifically about the comparison shots. Those aren't the same models as shown when you're actually riding around a track. It's good material to get mouths to water and create some extra hype :)

I own both, and they are lots of fun too. :) However, I am more excited over GT5 then either of the above games. Your welcome to your opinion, but GT5 is going to be a hell of a lot fun IMO. Driving the RW drive cars with no TC and the right tires is a lot of fun, and the physics are much improved IMO. You can powerslide like crazy through the twisty S, and delivering the power is not as simplified as some of you think. :)

I think Im going to buy a G25 just for this game, of course it will also become handy on GTR2 and rFactor, but by now those are quite old games. Either way, I am more excited about this game then I was about GTR2 which proved to be a great racing game.

Heres another good in-car video (2mins)... the detail on the cars looks fanstastic!

http://www.youtube.c...feature=related

...and an interesting comparison of FORZA2 vs. the GT5:DEMO! GT5 looks so much better in terms of car detail etc even at that early level. Also, GT5 will be 1080p @60fps. :)

London in car of the Prologue. :)

Oh yeah, i'll be getting a PS3 purely for GT5 - and possibly Race Driver Grid, but i'll always prefer the PC games. Hopefully GTR3 will see the light of day, saying that though - the new Blimey! Games Ferrari project looks bloody good too!

No, but I have seen seen screenshots of what the game looks like in driving mode and there's definitely a difference in the visuals compared to the replay/photo/garage mode used for the comparison shots. Not that I'm slamming them for the difference in quality, heck most games do this these days (e.g. PGR#'s).

Here's some case in point (driving mode) screenshots with observations:
http://image.com.com...2_screen041.jpg
http://image.com.com...2_screen039.jpg
-less sophisticated anti aliasing,
-where's the motion blur (can you turn this on or off?)
-depth of field not there

Anyhow, it does still look great but not mindblowingly better than its competitors. I guess it's just that I'm more impressed by eye candy in driving mode ;)

Did you take a look at any of the videos I posted? Trust me, the AA is sharp as hell with a true HDTV @ 1080 . :) Some of the pics you linked from Gamespot dont do justice, and look like they were possibly 720p? Another month or so and Prologue will be out here in US. :)

Yes Menace, those videos look all fine and well, but the resolution makes it impossible to judge any HD action going on. If you can find me a genuine HD screenshot of driving mode we'll discuss further ;)

Fact remains there's a difference in what's shown in the publicity PR shots and what you see in game. I'll state again; I'd rather see them impress people with stuff that you see when driving. The amount of replay/photomode shots is overwhelming compared to actual in game stuff, wonder why?

The second link is HD - you can play the demo in 1080p on the PS3, have been able to since the PS3 US launch. The Alpine Mountain level is the demo.

(they didn't have the incockpit view IIRC though).

Alright then. Firstly, the second video in my last post IS in HD. Secondly, if you so wish, WE wont discuss this any further then (but I will continue to discuss with others ;) ), but trust me those of us that have actually played the Demo can confirm it looks just as pretty as the screens you have seen in full HD (and many of them aint "garage mode" or anything else you seem to think).

The Demo in US didn't include the inside view at all, but that alpine level along with 10+ cars is available in the demo, and it looks MUCH better then in the Gamespot screens you posted which also happen to be 1280x720...

Ricardo, you are spot on as usual. :)

From Gamespots preview of the GT5 Prologue, dated today...

As expected, the graphics in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue are of the highest quality, particularly when it comes to the cars. Every single piece of the exterior designs appears to have been modeled perfectly, and the lighting and environments reflect off of the bodywork in an extremely convincing manner. It really is possible to look at the game in certain conditions and believe that you're looking at a real video, which makes it all the more tragic that the game has no photo mode. Likewise, it's a real shame that the game doesn't save replays automatically, considering that this element of the game is just as addictive as ever. Though it's difficult to see during the races themselves, the vehicles move in an extremely realistic manner, with subtle shifts in weight due to gear changes and inertia all the more noticeable on the high-resolution cars.

Sigh...

I didn't say it looked bad, now did I? Indeed the HD video does look great, still some compression in there so slightly blurred. I'll be more specific for clarity's sake, where's the motion blur and depth of field whilst in driving mode?

I have the demo and play it on a 50" Panasonic 750U 1080p plasma over HDMI with the PS3 set to output 1080p, and I can say with certainty that the in-game car models exhibit zero anti-aliasing. Kind of disappointment really. I would also guess that every single "screenshot" in this thread has been photoshopped to kill off the aliased edges. Perhaps the Prologue playback mode uses copius quantities of AA?

The "power" of the PS3 will hopefully be showcased by the physics calculations in GT5 - the cell proc has very little impact on what the gfx chipset can do. I would rather have 60fps and a killer sim than anything else.

And  to the inclusion of the F2007.

Got my copy today, loaded it (takes 15mins) then updated it (takes about 45mins) then hit the tracks.

It is A W E S O M E !

Online play is cool too.

I have a 42" full 1080p Panasonic Plasma - the graphics are excellent - smooth and sharp.

Just got to get me 2,000,000 credits now to get that F2007. Only 1,923,500 to go....

If anyone wants to meet me online for a challange my ID is 'beezlebob'

I'd add you - TMLS313 I am - but don't think we can do friend racing yet, can we? Made my online debut last night on it, with an immediate win at Daytona. The kiddies don't know how to race on an oval!

you can't do friend racing - you can race online but it's random.

I've now got both versions of the Prologue

Keep practicing - 9n 2005 and 2006 - my husband went to the Electronic Sports World Cup in Paris and represented NZ in the GT tournament (wasn't held last year as GT wasn't available on PS3) - good prize money available, in 2006 US$40K

I had a quick whirl with the F2007 last night - it felt nice, but a little floaty. Perhaps playing using a G25 would solve that slightly ;).

Another thing that bothers me slightly is the amount of tyre smoke you get from cornering at speed in the thing. Not particularly authentic :drunk:
