Come on guys give CH 10 a break, the Turkish Round is 10 minutes earlier on HD. :

Yet again, I lament that I spent $300 on HD gear because Ch 10 said they would broadcast F1 live on HD.
And www.tvunetworks.com won't work on my mac..................
But www.justin.tv/mytv does (or did, we'll see in a couple of weeks).

Whats wrong with that line up? You expect way to much for something that rates next to zilch.10.40pm is fine as far as I'm concerned .Anyone realistically expecting any earlier or live is kidding themselves.

Well Ten-HD are showing the NASCAR Nationwide race from Hermanos-Rodriguez on Monday morning. Ambrose has a great chance of a top 5!

7HD are showing the V8's.

Agreed, it really is no huge surprise.

but i am surprised considering they actually said and had planned to show the rounds live. It seems the right hand wasnt talking to the lft hand at Network 10.

Just checked the TV guide, Ch10 has done a reversal. It is putting F1 on HD after the cricket this Sunday night. For me, this really adds insult to injury, HD has gone from a promised 'live' broadcast, to being delayed even longer than regular free to air delay. :

Hope justin.tv works this weekend.

that might be a reaction to how popular the 20/20 has been, have to admit I watched the cricket instead of Rove last night, and it was crazy seeing the fans.

I'm sure 10 will send a big thanks to 60 minutes for their report on the 20/20 tournament, as it would have been a good promo for them.

I noticed on regular free to air, CH10 have moved some of their AFL games to after the cricket :drunk: That's a gutsy move, so it must be rating.

armchair, how much different does the normal channel 10 look like compared to the HD version, when using your set top box for both?

In Melbourne at least, this week's GP is on at 10:40pm on 10SD (and 11:30 on 10HD?? why bother??).

Ok, so fine, delayed, but we've come to expect this. But remember the story about not being able to show it live on 10HD because So You Think You Can Dance had a contract to be shown in HD? Well guess what's on 10HD during the finale of that this Sunday? A repeat of the Australian Rally Championship, followed by IPL. So much for that excuse, 10....

I think this all shows how badly F1 rates. I am surprised that they do not have it repeated on cable on the health channels - it is good therapy IMO, as it is an excellent method by which to go to sleep, and far more healthy than sleeping medications.

The pre race stuff is more interesting than the race IMO, but we don't get any of that telecaste ...

10.30-10.40 start is fine with me .... i can handle that .... its the 11.30 - 11.50 starts that **** me ....

still .... it would be good if we had a broadcaster (ie. speed or itv etc) who didn't have to compromise .....

i think in this day and age we should be able to access motor racing's number 1 racing category in HD LIVE without having to contstantly beg for it like a pack rabid animals :)

Agreed, except they proclaimed at the start of the season they would be showing F1 live on HD. Then the fatties, dancing and whatever other commitments kicked in and F1 got shifted.

I can deal with a reasonable delay like a 10:30pm start, dealt with that since 1981. Sure, I'd like to have live timing as I watch a race for once, but I'll live without it. What I don't like is getting bull-shitted to.

MP, it's much the same. The Conia SD is not the best TV in the world and I'm running an internal/external aerial, so my HD reception is not that great. If I had a proper antenna, I might be able to make a call.

I'm still hoping Foxtel deliver all HD channels with their iq2 upgrade in the middle of the year. Mind you, since Ch 10 has not committed to their F1 promise, I've hardly watched it.

F1 is only broadcast in SD so while it is being shown on the HD channel, that does not mean it is HD.

I have a full HDTV and i can definately tell the difference between a SD broadcast and a full HD broadcast. The NASCAR HD races are very impressive. Although im getting used to it very quickly.

I read somewhere that Foxtel will only have 4 channels in HD when they launch in July?

Maybe I should get a full HD TV?
I fairly sure Foxtel will only have four HD channels of their own. I was hoping they would be re-broadcasting all the regular free-to-air HD, as they are already with ABC2. Though as Ch10 have punted F1 off prime-time on HD it really is moot now.

Are the Nascar races broadcast in normal definition?

From what I understand, there is no 1080P broadcast in Australia. And of the "HD" being broadcast, not all of the original source material is of the resolution being transmitted. Its like the old hi-fi systems - its a matter of rubbish in and then you get rubbish out. The lowest quality will be the quality bottleneck.

I have found that often, HD looks just the same - but that the sound is far far superior in HD. I would recommend for buyers getting a good surround system, and saving on the monitor. The screen will drop in value, they'll get bigger and bigger without going up in price, but the sound system will last for years and give you a huge leap in enjoyment.

what do you mean normal definition? They are only are shown on the Ten-HD channel and when i click on boradcast info during the NASCAR coverage it says it is showing it at 1080, i cant remember if thats p or i but whichever it is, i only think we get the one type here.

The channels have different HD broadcast definitions. Much earlier in this thread, this issue was discussed. There is a site somewhere that talks about the various channels HD definitions, and where they are broadcast. I think they may vary between states or places as well.

I was asking though whether channel 10 broadcast the Nascar on their normal channel. I thought it was just viewable in HD. IF so, then its not easy to understand that it looks better than standard definition!

Totally agree.
The Nascar races broadcast in HD on TenHD are really good quality. Extremely vivid.
Why Formula One & Motogp can't be shown in real HD still baffles me.
The pinnacle of their categories but living in the dark ages when it comes to broadcasts.

On a side note - Bought a Sony Bravia 46" X series LCD at Christmas with the free PS3.
Anyone else have a similar set? Really good TV IMO.

The way to test a difference between HD and our DVD quality transmission is to view both and make the comparison. Like with cameras, if the photography is good, the output in low resolution will look just the same as in higher dot count resolution. Try it with other channels - I'll be interested in your viewpoint. The point with Nascar is that its likely well photographed, and may not look any different to us in our normal broadcast transmission rather than HD. It would sound quite different though in HD - much better, if one has the system to pick up the sound differences.

People in Australia are being influenced to buy full 1080P resolution with the expectation of better long term value. And in most LCD sets, this makes perfect sense, because there is little premium with LCD technology. With plasma, it doesn't IMO make much sense if one is viewing television broadcasts. And if one is viewing HD videos or lots of BlueRay, it does make sense, although there are not many out there yet. As I said before, if one has a budget, I think a separate surround amp provides a better return on your dollar than going for a large plasma with 1080P. it will change though - for instance the Pioneer 1080P has come down a a lot since Christmas.

All this on-again, off-again, maybe-sorta-live-but-only-next-week crap is starting to make me nostalgic for the simple days of Channel 9 broadcasts :

Back then you could always rely on F1 being broadcast straight after the Sunday night movie. The only uncertainty was who was going to be hosting the 5-minute late night news spot in between: Peter Hitchener or Jo Hall? The start was 10.30-10.45 almost always. MAYBE 11.30 at worst, if they were showing a long film like Casino. Half the time that movie was actually GOOD, so you'd take the time to watch it anyway - unlike whatever random jumble of reality TV bullshit that happens to be screening on channel 10 this season, that will invariably "somehow" go 30+ minutes overtime more often than not..

It was rare for the telecast to be pushed around at late notice, on such a whim, with nobody in the network knowing what was going on. Does anyone actually know for sure how the 20/20 cricket, the biggest loser, or the dancing thing (lest we forget the shiteous Big Brother), or which ever random simultaneous-HD-broadcast contract C10 may or may not have, is going to affect F1 telecast times this year?

The Darrell Eastlake and Alan Jones thing at the start may have been half-arsed, but at least it didn't drone on for very long. Darrell was annoying to listen to, but fortunately they cut away to the BBC feed as soon as they could, (the start of the formation lap) so we could hear from PEOPLE ACTUALLY AT THE CIRCUIT. None of this waffling about last week's autosport.com headline right up to the grid being formed and the 3rd starting light already on!

Back then channel 9 were a broadcasting powerhouse, one thing was for sure; they knew what they were doing. Sure, F1 pretty much had gutter-level priority on their network, but at least they had a concrete plan of exactly how they were going to broadcast it. Channel 10, on the other hand, seems to be run by a bunch of ADHD "Corey"-esque teenagers high on a mix of E's and pre-mixed spirits.

To paraphrase a Simpsons quote, it was much easier to deal with C9's half-arsed underparenting, than C10's half-arsed overparenting.

Maybe we just didn't know how good we had it back then? Or, this just shows how shithouse Network 10 really are. Disgraceful. I really wish foxtel would just pull their finger out and start up a dedicated motorsport channel like Speed.

I do remember one time on 9 where they showed 10 laps and went to a commercial break, only to come back and show the same 10 laps again. Good times.

In other countries, they get comprehensive walk arounds and tonnes of information before the race. Lauda is a major walk arounder for German TV, and wouldn't it be great if someone like Alan Jones could do that for our channels. We are over 20 million people, a wealthy country too, with a high percentage of car ownership. But our F1 treatment makes us look like we are just not interested.

MP, that's right. Well, they're not; you are and I am.

Thing is, this country is a taxi racing culture. Lots of reasons for that and you probably know them better than I.

It's (to me) a crying shame that single seater racing, for whatever reasons, does not engage the majority of Australian motor sport followers.

I have a friend who runs a model shop. He tells me that young and old lads come in all day long to happily shell out A$180 for their heroes' V8 Supercar Falcadore. Yet sales of F1 diecasts are few and far between. Not the definitive indicator, I'll concede, but not irrelevant.

I suppose it is a testament to how well V8 Supercars is run in Australia to attain the public following.

If F1 was given the same amount of coverage investment by the networks then perhaps it too would be followed at the same level.

No doubt V8 Supercars is a well run series. But the category is assisted by a long standing culture amongst certain demographics that sees bumper stickers that say This is Ford country, where on a quiet day you can hear the Holdens rusting! or This is Holden country, where on a quiet day you can hear the Fords rusting!

I'm not sure that kind of underlying atmospheric exists in most European countries.

Im not a V8 fan but they know their market and don't pretend to be anything they are not and more power to them.
F1 on the other hand pretends to be everything and delivers next to zilch. No overtaking ,technological marvels that will fascinate the anorak reading about it on the net but driving past on race day to the casual fan Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems are totally irrelevant to improving the spectacle.Massively overpriced tickets don't help attract those who might be interested either.
Tv wise, less than a handful of races start before 10 pm on a sunday night AUS time so that narrows the viewers somewhat,(enoughs been said about how that coverage is handled by 10)

what about chan 7 and the tennis one year and the "LIVE" coverage.... Fedder was playing someone it was like 2-0 go to a ad break...when they come back Fedder is 6-0 6-0 4-0...Chan 7 is like WHOOPS... change it back to the old footage.... IT WAS SEAMLESS... like nobody even saw it happen.... :rotfl:

Looks like we will have to rely on the internet online feeds for the race if we want it live this year.

What do you guys think is the link of choice for live feeds?

According to the forums SPEED on TVU is the best and that you shouldn't touch ITV with a 10 foot stick since they're so clearly biased.

Yep heard that, but the beauty of the ITV digital internet feed is that there is no commentary, just the sound of the cars

Actually that's just for the practice sessions. During the race the web feed just broadcasts the normal TV stream. So stick to SPEED.

Oh sh*t! Speed it is.

We get the ITV feed in Australia also, i have been accustomed to the biased nature of their pro Lewis anti Ferrari stance. It gives me a great laugh when Ferrari are doing well and Lewis is not and you just listen to the tone of their voices... :rotfl:

Well I don't mind the pro Lewis stance, since I am a Lewis fan and it's a British production at the end of the day. I am sure the Australian commentators would have a pro-Webber bias too, which would annoy the **** out of me if I had to watch the Australian feed since I don't really like that guy. So I can imagine how you feel. I am just giving you the facts to help you decide.

The commentary is not a huge issue if you know your sport, most times when watching the coverage the commentators are usually about 10 seconds too slow in pointing out what is happening on the track.

The Australian commentators dont really give too much time to Webber, it is a very neutral commentary, but neutrally sh*t i must say as they source all their info from the web. They do a cross to Peter (i want to marry lewis Hamilton) Windsor before every gp also.

From your comments i couldn't tell that you were a lewis fan...;)
Did you buy his book when it was $40 or later when it was $1 in the discount bin?

I am a F1 fan but I am not THAT much of a fan. I would never consider buying any merchandise related to F1. As for the commentary I am sure that's what you would like to think. But to the ears of a non-australian, the commentary would appear very biased.

No i think it gets more biased the further up the grid your driver is. Mark is midfield with Red Bull, he is a great qualifier and gets applauded when he puts the car on the grid where it has not right to be.

We dont get local commentary for the actual races, we have to listen to the 'deep throating of lewis' commentary from ITV provided by the UK.

It can be a little off putting if you don't know how to deal with it.

I think that's your Australian bias showing again.

I think you need to understand the difference between biased and facts. You may want to ask other people on this forum about Webber to see if my position was as you say biased, or if that is simply your view.

Except these "other people on this forum" who like Webber happen to be mostly Australian too.

Try and use the grey matter God gave you.

I made two statements, first that Red Bull is a midfield team, and second that Mark tends to qualify the car where it doesn't deserve to be.

Look at the facts, you can't argue about the car performance it is in the Williams, Toyota, Renault, Honda, Red Bull 2nd tier catagory this year. Therefore midfield.

And he has historically qualified better then any of his team mates. Hell he qualified a Jaguar on pole or second a few times while his teammate was no where.

I think you just like to argue, even when you know you are wrong. Tin Top cars may be more your style.

If he was so good he would have won a race or two. The fact is most Australians view him with rose tinted glasses and then have the nerve to call Brits (I'm not one, although I do study in UK) biased towards Lewis.

That comment alone shows how little you know about modern F1, you would be well advised to continue studying. :rotfl:

With comments like that you will be ridiculed by other members within a few weeks because clearly you know nothing of the sport you profess to follow.

Anyone can watch a race, few have the capacity to actually read a race and understand it. I know which type of F1 follower you are...do you? Good luck this weekend.

Just some plain glasses may be useful for you.

Pizzonia, Klein, Rosberg, Heidfeld, Coulthard

These are all drivers that have been consistently out qualified by MW, and with the possible exception if NH, outraced as well while the car lasted.

Unreliability in Williams, Jag and RB have clouded MW's capabilities. We haven't had the chance to judge this yet.

Who else has won a race in a (non BMW) Williams, RB, or Jag in the last 10 years?

Suggesting he should have won a GP by now is just plain fanciful (I would have liked that tho) or if I was being honest, ignorant of F1. But as I don't have experience of you here I'll suggest you were just being mischievous ;)
