While there is a thread going about Galaxie Touring Cars I was thinking there may be some interest in a famous [ in New Zealand anyway ] car that raced in NZ in the mid 60's. The car was half Ford Customline half Ford Galaxie and would have been the fastest tin top in the country at the time. anyone remember it and what happened to it??

Didn't it have 'Colour Me Gone' written across the back?
And the driver was..............................................
......that section of my hard drive has been corrupted!!
It wasn't Paul Fahey, Rod Coppins, Robbie Francevic?

I wouldn't throw out the hard drive just yet, it was Robbie Francevic.

Who could ever forget the Custaxie?
It was built up by Tony Kriletich and Robbie Francevic around a 1955 Customline shell with a 7-litre 410bhp Galaxie engine and E-type Jaguar brakes and bodywork modified as in the link. After a couple of races sorting it out, Francevic could not be beaten in 1967 saloon racing.
I'm sure I've read recently whether it's back in existence, but can't remember. Perhaps an NZ-based member might...

Sadly it was dumped based on discussions with a subsequent owner.

As I recall, it was used on the road for a while.

I've also heard rumours of a recreation involving Robbie but others may know more.

So why did Robbie start with a '56 Customline for a 1967 all comers car?

It was a 'run what you brung' type deal in 'Allcomers'.

Our friend Milan was not only close to the action but, as I recall, built a scale model.

The car was a one-season wonder because the Allcomers were banned after the 1966/67 season

Has the same appearance as this Dale Earnhardt creation that was constructed shortly before his death for a new racing series. Made about 3/4 normal size.

Good news about the Custaxie. A few weeks ago when I was in Nelson I got to see the recreated Custaxie
Michael Clark your rumour was for real

The replica Custaxie made its debut at the McLaren Festival in January.
Looks pretty close to the original, colour scheme however is not correct, stripes are the wrong size, and the stripe on the right hand side should be blue, not red. The car eventually went very quickly, and certainly bought back memories of 1967. One local publication ran an article that stated in contained parts of the original car, can anybody confirm if that is correct?

Here is a picture of the car in period. Sorry about the quality but it is a photo of a photo taken from Motoring News in April 1967.Robbie Franicevic won the race at Pukeohe on April 8th. I well remember being struck by the appearance of this car when I originally saw this picture.

Nice, but it didn't take long to crease the rear quarter!

What has happened to the creator of this thread, Peter Leversedge? He was a regular for quite a while but seems to have gone missing.

Peter may have lost interest, been a victim of the forum's mechanical changes or (sadly) may have fallen off his perch?...last posting seems to be in 2013 (if you can believe the search results)

While I dislike the current format after most of the bugs were fixed it is still much the same.

One hopes Peter is still around.
