Sutil was a better-placed Spyker driver at the end of last year. True. But he did that against a certain Yamamoto, whose name I cannot recollect. But what I can recollect is that the Japanese had scored 0 points in GP2 before being put in the second orange car due to a tight wallet.

Another driver was Christijan Albers. I supported the Hollander after his exploits in DTM and couldn't believe my eyes last season when he was badly beaten by a rookie and made a few dreadful mistakes in the process.

The reason why Adrian cannot find his rythm against Fisico this year has, IMHO, two reasons:

1) Fisichella is a top driver, who was treated unfairly at Renault. And even though I do admit that both FA and HK were faster, there are not that many drivers on the grid that can boast the same.

2) Sutil was overhyped. Period. The German might not be a bad driver, but that's not enough to be in F1, right? I mean, there are no bad drivers in the series, and since there are only 22 cars Adrian should either start showing results or vacate his seat to Liuzzi.

That's what I think on the matter. And I think that I'm not alone here.

But, come on, that was the guy's first race in F1. It's tough not only physically but also mentally. The pressure to deliver is very high, you can almost smell it! And where did nick Heidfeld finish in his first-ever F1 race? OK, Prost was far from being a world-beater, but still... was the reigning F3000 champion and how did he look compared to Alesi. Mediocre, to put it midly.

In Indianapolis Vettel did not make a single serious mistake. And that's a fact, whether you like it or not. And, yeah, unfrotunately one's got to have a good car to succeed in modernFormula 1. And Michael Schumacher, who is considered as the best driver in the history of the sport, is the best proof of that.

Agree. Also none of Vettel's retirements are through his own fault except Fuji last year, which was a direct result of inexperience.

I think 1) is a pretty fair assessment. As the ITV commentary said today, Fisi has always punched above his weight in the back of the grid teams. He's done well with the donkey cars and his experience shows through when coming through the back markers.

I'm beginning to think 2) might be accurate. I was a big fan of Sutil last year, really thought he might do the business and even tipped him for the second mclaren seat if Renault refused to release Heikki. I was really impressed by his performance at Spa last year in the B-spec car. But he has failed to set the world alight this year. His performances in qualifying and the race are lacklustre to say the least.

Well, that depends on a definition of a "serious mistake" but his race was nearly over at the first turn. And he was miles behind Heidfeld in qualifying, too. Not that it means he is a crap driver.


But still, Kubica to Toro Rosso? Not even a slightest chance of it happening.

Sutil's performance last year was probably looking so great because Albers was doing such a bad job and Yamamoto is not exactly the fastest driver out there (he didn't look impressive in GP2, neither did Albers in fact, he couldn't score a single point in F3000 when his teammate Webber was fighting for wins, many people seem to have forgotten that).

Althoug he hasn't shown much this year, Sutil still deserves to sit out the year, he is a good driver with a solid palmares (vice-European F3 & Japanese F3 champion) and this is only his 2nd season. Fisichella is still one of the better drivers in F1 in my opinion, if Sutil can match Fisichella's pace in the future, then he is doing a really good job.

In the '80s there were so many F1 seats (even 39 cars in 1989!) that young drivers had the chance to slowly grow and improve during several seasons. Sadly there are not many places on the grid nowadays and people expect results immediately, even from drivers who are still young or less experienced. That's really a shame. I remember that drivers like Philippe Alliot were not impressive at all early in their F1 career but they got the chance to grow and Alliot became one of the most respected drivers, his speed even improved a lot.
