Is anyone going to Le Mans in July?
I will be going with some friends, staying at my place in Touraine, 50 km away from LM. I hope we will hangout with the Redele team like we did four years ago, spend some time with a friend's father who's going to drive a 906 and pay a visit to David Piper.

Hasn't one of the Dodge owners posted on TNF some years ago or is it another Dodge?

Who's up for a small TNF meet around rillette sandwiches and 1664s (or Stella)?

Apparently this year, they are hinting for a dress code:

There has always been a dress code but nobody seems to take to much notice ,certainly we don't nor will we.We pay to race cars not involve ourselves in a fancy dress comp.

No paddock access tickets left... is the event becoming really exclusive?
I got myself an ACO membership and I should get a free access to the paddocks... crossing my fingers there...

There are a few of us going over with Lotuses from the fifties - so weather and cars permitting we should be in the clubs' area on the south west corner of the Bugatti circuit on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

We will take modern jackets and ties - after all we have been invited to someone else's country and it just seems like good manners to do so. I expect we'll see some of you there - looking forward to it :)

Ferry tomorrow evening but I'm off today to do at least part of the journey in the dry.

I've inquired about an ACO tie to wear on this weekend but none are available for members except the Hermes ties at 125 Euro/each on the 24hrs race theme. I guess I will have to wear my cheaper ACM one... :D

Time for a TNF tie to match the badges? ;)

Can you suggest a time and place, Antoine?

I have a question for you Le Mans Classic regulars:
For all kind of reasons I haven't organised anything and the only option I have left is to catch a train to Le Mans early on Sunday morning, so I would like to know if I can just turn up and buy a ticket on the spot and if it's worth going there just for the day Sunday?

TIA

Err... a bit late... Sorry! I'm staying in the countryside and the public library is only open three times a week in the morning to ckeck the Internet:/

I had a good time among a 906s, three 917s, a 934, a 935 and the turbine car!
I will post some pictures when I get home in two weeks:)

On a side note, i won't renew my ACO membership... the member area was a mess, the food awful and a total lack of organisation...

That area most certainly was a mess, the food dreadful, and what's more the claim that the liquid refeshments were at reduced price was untrue.
The arrangements for collecting the free members' paddock passes, when we had already produced membership cards to buy the entry tickets at members' prices, was typical of the ACO's lack of organisation.
What annoyed me even more was the ACO restricting access to the new Members' Welcome area in the Village to purchasers of so-called "VIP packages". That area, with its superb viewing terrace, was freely available to ACO members during the 24 Hours meeting last month.
Bah!
Had a good time though.

Le Mans Classic 2008

Several changes again and some not so favourable. I am not an ACO member so can't tell what is wrong with that. Only that the grand stands are no longer free, OK: but why sell unique tickets for each grandstand. Ford chicane grand stand was sold out, others completely empty at times.

Still great event. Many fantastic cars and top drivers, as well as shops and paddocks to drool over for more than 24 hours. Here some pics. Let me know when it is too much ;-)

Some great pictures here Arjan!

Looks a good event - I have to admit to being curious as I was over in France last weekend and there were a number of older English sportscars on the ferry, but they looked terrible! Sorry, but...

IIRC the blue flared-wing Riley was at Goodwood FoS last year in the Style et Luxe.

With 3000 approx UK old bangers at LMC assume some would be in poor shape but the owners probably think their wonderful and thats all important so no apology needed

Is the Riley is a recreation?

The event was organised by the ACO (or, to be precise, L'Association Sportive Automobile de l'Automobile Club de l'Ouest) in association with SAVH, which is the Peter Auto company.

Yes, it's a replica of a Paulin design built by Pourtout in France - I gather there were originally three and at least one was on a TT Sprite chassis. There's an article on Forix which mentions them. The originals no longer exist.

The Riley was driven all the way from Oxfordshire to Le Mans via Portsmouth - St Malo; a bit of a wet trip in England on the Wednesday!
