So which position will Alonso get in the race after his strong qualifying in Barcelona?

I think 6th or 7th, unless something happens to the BMWs and Mercedes.

I would have said 5th except I think they have compromised his race in order to get him high up in qualifying. Just my opinion though and the grid looks to be one that will give us a reasonably exciting race tomorrow as far as Barcelona races go.

I think that if everyone finishes the race, the best position he could get is 7th because the Ferraris, McLarens and BMWs would definitely fill in the top 6 spot.

I think he won't be in the podium, but he will fight not to lose too many positions. Massa may overtake him in the start. And other cars will have better race pace, let's not forget we only saw Renault's new qualyfing performance, with less fuel too.

I give him a 5th. Although I feel it will be higher than that.

5th seems about reasonable to me.

Maybe if his tires fail him like they did in Canada.

If Alonso can drive with his light car fast enough early, he has chance to beat some of the top-3 team drivers, but if he only leads train into his first stop -> finish 7th...

I wondr if Lewis will hit him again

If he can have a clear track in the first stint he will be fast and might be able to get a podium.

The Renault is not as quick as BMW, Ferrari and Mclaren on long runs, and I believe RBR would push it very hard given a trouble free weekend, So allowing or a retirement or two, maybe fifth. But on true pace, the same as before, between 7th and 10th.

Even though he's actually P2, I don't believe that Renault have made such a step forward in just two weeks. If the race goes on without any incidents, he won't have a chance agains BMW or McLaren. Maybe due to his first early stop he could rejoin in front of a McLaren but... P6-P7.

All weekend Alonso has been saying the car hasnt improved enough and they will be basically the same position they were at Bahrain, and then he sticks it on the front row. Alonso is a tricky customer and likes to hide his cards. I think he will be will very close to the bmws and mclarens in race pace.

Alonso has always downplayed his car so if he does well all will think its because of him and not the car :)

Having in mind that he'll have a 3-stops strategy, he will be 6th or 7th probably if nothing happens with the cars ahead.

Judging Q2 yesterday, the order is

Ferrari
then almost right there, BMW

then about 0.3 down from both Ferrari & BMW is Mac
then almost right there is Renault.

Alonso says he sees himself 6th
I think this is so because he feels confident of beating at least one of the Macs !

If we have a normal race, Alonso will beat one of the Macs, 6th !

If we have a normal race & Alonso finishes 5th, then I will seriously consider that Lewis' 2007 season was actuallly a lot about Alonso's contribution to the team & that Lewis' consequent benefits were significantly enhanced from being next to Alonso.

If we have a normal race & Alonso finishes, 5th, then Lewis to me, is just another good driver, period !

I just have to say how impressively close to the Gaussian distribution the results are so far ;)

We can wait till the race results but it is obvious than Alonso flatterd Hamilton big time in 2007.

I have a feeling both Alonso and Massa will not drive beyond the first corner. :p If it rains I think he will win.

There are some talks that Alonso would come in at lap 10.

Nice poll. Probably the best camouflaged bash I've seen in a very long time so mucho kudos and doffing of hats to you alg7.

I reckon he'll be in the points - just - and 8th.

8th would be my call too. Though it will be very interesting watching him fend of the Maccas & the Beemers

I say lap 11, but if he comes early in, it doesn't necessary mean that he is light, he could be avoiding safety car :smoking:

We didn't have a normal race but until the time Alonso's engine went his position indicated he was enroute to 5th place. What score do we give Hamilton then ?
