I think it's probably the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life and is probably coming from people who remember when you had to wear a suit and tie to drive cars.

And besides, it implies scruffy is bad, which is of course bollocks. What's bad is dressing in stupid uncomfortable clothes just to go out/go to work because convention says you should. Traditional also says we should keep slaves and beat women.

Says Dudley, sitting at work in jeans and Bahrain GP t-shirt ;)

F*** off Thatti and Chandler!

Seems the FIA is getting worried about their image.... it really makes me to wonder what kind of wankers are working at the FIA??

I mean, go and do something more important!

I guess it gives us the answer why the drivers nowadays have turned into corporate robots, echoing phrases that real males, PR officers, have thought them. I think it is good, spontaneity and personality should not be encouraged because it will just slow down the introduction of the Digital Driver Cell (DDC) that FIA is working with at the moment.

Well when I read about it, I thought this offers remarkable support to DOHC's observation, that yes indeed Max Mosley has superior intellect in the context of the FIA but primarily because the FIA is ran by total nincompoops...

Shows how detached from reality these FIA dudes are. :drunk:

People who get all conservative and offended by others' fashion style piss me off. In this case the FIA guys sound like they're 40 years back in time.

I like this comment in grandprix.com's coverage yesterday, pointing out it's a leak...

"The exchange took place in March and it is interesting that it has only now emerged, two months after the discussions. The suspicion is that it has been leaked in order to paint Chandler and Thatti in a poor light. This is interesting as both are important figures in Max Mosley's FIA."

So with this and the possible Fillon candidacy it looks like Max's clique might have some organised opposition, at last.

The Beatles actually started as a rally team, The Beetles, but with their hair and tight trousers they were not allowed to enter. Ringo Starr was the driver so it was no surprise that he was also the one that struggled the most to become a musician instead.

All drivers in FIA series should be made to wear uniforms. These should be a classic black and white stripe. In the style of a Tour de France winners jersey, the current championship leader would be allowed to wear a black leather coat with a skull motif on it, signifying his dominance over the others.

Don't you get it, its been released by someone in the FIA opposed to Mosley, to show that the FIA does care about image, when it suits them...

Sadly it seems todays world is nothing but men in suits and ties with the clean shaven over oiled up hair look telling everyone how they should, look, act and behave.
Reality is, this guys paid to do one thing and thats drive a car quickly, which he does. If the team had a problem with his look you can bet he'd be clean shaven and looking "tidy" in a heartbeat. Reality is, he wins them lots of races which brings in lots of money so they and their sponsors could care less if he came to work looking like a caveman.
These two individuals say it's not a reflection on the everyday man. Well I suggest they come to a race one day go into the grandstands and look at everyday man. Instead of sipping champagne with the other suits and ties who they think are the reprisentation of how we all look.

now that was stupid! Probably this two guys are bald and could never have sex with a girl without paying. And maybe, maybe, they never drove cars very fast.

As a side point, I think the FIA are taking rather too much credit here:

"He was unshaven, scruffy looking and with unkempt hair!!," Thatthi added. "It is wrong.....when the FIA gives him global TV coverage to millions of viewers and to many children worldwide he is a hero and role model (...)

Not sure that the FIA have anything to do with TV coverage bought and supplied by international broadcasters nor any of the marketing activity created by the Citroen or partner brands?

Basically, all they do is sanction the event. They don't 'give' Leob anything. Or have I got that wrong?

I think I have not seen anything more stupid for a long long time....sad.

 Seb, a great driver, perhaps the best ever.

P.S. I saw a tv sports program on Finnish TV the other day, about Marcus Grönholm...his cell phone was beeping and he said that he received a message from Sebastien Loeb - Seb asked Marcus to partner him in some Porsche related event. The commentator said that perhaps Seb is missing you

I am sure Loeb will be quicker still if he shaved off his jungle, lower CoG and all that :p

"Yes I watched the same as you did (...) Unfortunately it is not a problem that is unique to our sport as the same happens in football and other "male" sports," Chandler wrote.

What the ****!?!!

Hmm, I've always found Sebastien Loeb rather easy on the eye. And that's actually a bit of an understatement.

Beats me how anyone can be so short on class and good sense as to think that this is something the FIA need to concern themselves with... Pure insanity.

No one criticises the way Brad Pit looks, so who cares? Loeb looks as great as a great rally driver. He should not dress up like a 60th lady killer if he does not want to.

Score one for NASCAR!

Anyone seen Tony Stewart lately?

Next thing they'll be telling drivers to lose weight, get their teeth whitened, and sit up straight!

You mean Tony Stewart who has been critisized several times for his appearance? The same dude who was docked points for saing "bullshit" and slammed for talking about having few beers after winning Brickyard 2007 (despite of racing in series where cars are moving beer ads)? How about younger boys who have perfect hair and shining white teeth? Not to forget Ray-Bans and sip from soft drink bottle after each race? Uh-oh.

This one goes 10-0 for F1. NASCAR is far worse, I´m afraid.

In NASCAR, this is already happening. Tony can get away with it (sort of), but new guys...

"Why, you low-down, stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf-herder…" (Influence drawn from D82 ;) )

But then today JB's had a trim....

An FIA directive?

Hmmmmmmm

EDIT: I'm not saying JB is stuck up or half witted... just pre-quoting D82's line

Get real, I'd get Max under control first before I started throwing stuff at others. Max seems to have it in for the French IMO. He surely didn't do Michelin any favors.

BTW that photo of James say it all, "I gotta be me!"

I'd love to SL in F1!

Finally FIA JUST SHUT THE F@#$ UP!

Sadly, as this thread shows, today's society looks at sports figures as their new leaders. Their new "intellectuals." Freedom is equated with debauchery and foul language.
The problem is that by trying to obtain the lowest common denominator, society only managed to reach its lowest.
Nothing more and nothing less than a bunch of overgrown teenagers, who still think that belching is funny.
