Apparently he said that he "laid" rubber down during the formation lap, i.e. as soon as he blasted off the grid. He had the intension of putting as much clean rubber on his take off spot in order to reduce any wheelspin.
And thinking about it, thats all the drivers can do. Lay as much rubber as they can on that side of the track before the race starts.
It also says something for launch control, which was supposed to be banned.
