Meanwhile, I agree, it'd be nice to see the Lincs carrot cruncher win at least 1 race this year.
Given the recent Finnegan / Dunlop tragedies, let's hope it's a safe event

I believe that those of us spectating at, or listening to Manx Radio coverage of, bike racing on the Island are witnessing the emergence of a new interest. Forget Colemanballs, this is Moorisms.
His commentary at last year's S100 included the following,
"And I can hear the leaders approaching Cross Fourways now.........but I can't see them yet as our view is blocked by a bush that is sticking out....."
Roy's voice is interrupted by the loud sound of bikes roaring past his commentary point and accelerating away towards Church Bends. Listeners everywhere wait impatiently for news of the order of the leadership, and then Roy resumes, "I think it's a bit of an ivy bush......."

could it be the dearth of commercialization? What I do find bizarre is a couple of F1 drivers get a bit banged up at Monaco and there is an outcry for wholesale changes to the circuit...meanwhile we have the usual wholesale death toll at the TT and no one bats an eyelid....

From what I have read there was the usual wailing and moaning from the British press.could it be the dearth of commercialization?
One could set a lap record that defies physics and it might get one paragraph, but the ignorant press loves to plaster crashes, and especially deaths, up front whilst act like self-righteous twits because others dare to challenge their abilities.

Watched a bit Sunday morning on ITV4. Every time i watch these guys road racing it leaves me in shock and awe. It is absolutely mental to do what they do, and I have more respect for them than any other motorsport discipline Im aware of. Its just absolutely amazing to watch, even on tv. I would love to watch them in person, i really should get to at least the NW200 sometime seing it's only up the road!
I've watched it on ITV4 for the past couple of years. There's truly nothing else like it. Absolutely mind-blowing. Gotta have total respect for the riders. I'm totally with you, getting over to watch it live has to be one of those 'must things to do before you kick the bucket' experiences, especially if you live in the UK.
Amazing stuff.

Because of course, a fast ride on a bike is far more important than a dead person. From what I have read there was the usual wailing and moaning from the British press.
One could set a lap record that defies physics and it might get one paragraph, but the ignorant press loves to plaster crashes, and espeically deaths, up front whilst act like self-righteous twits because others dare to challenge their abilities.
I admire IoM's motorsporting legacy but I am not sure that all the dead bodies are really justifiable.

The years when no one dies are wonderful; fortunately fear is not the over riding factor for these magnificent sportsmen. (Which is probably the reason as few die as do on what is the most challenging race track in the world.)

I sold my MV 750 five years back, but here the MV 3 makes me wish I could have afforded to keep it.
Damn, I had the GP style exhausts on it and on occasion took the muffling elements out of them.
Oh lordy what a sound.
I had a fellow on a Harley chopper pull up next to me at a light once, and give me the thumbs up sign.

If my standards are about not dying pointlessly, you won't need God's help.Their lives are not lived under nor run by your standards, and God help us if they ever are.

How does one die, with a point? If my standards are about not dying pointlessly, you won't need God's help.
No we do need God's help as if people such as you run things, which they already run too much of, no one will be allowed to do anything people such as you deem "pointless".

If my standards are about not dying pointlessly, you won't need God's help.
Come on, none of these guys expect to die, but they all understand it as a genuine risk. You can die doing a lot of things, people draw their lines at different levels, you just have to accept that.

You know nothing about me so stop making stupid comments. I saw plenty of drivers killed in motor racing for no good reason, but we eventually managed to make it safer. I guess you and your sort just can't be arsed to try.How does one die, with a point?

Give me one good reason- or better stop using rhetoric that is asinine and moronic. You know nothing about me so stop making stupid comments. I saw plenty of drivers killed in motor racing for no good reason, but we eventually managed to make it safer. I guess you and your sort just can't be arsed to try.
Your pathetic "pointless" or "good reason", by its simple grammatical structure, means there is a good reason.
No one wants racing drivers to die, or be crippled.
When Jerry Titus was killed, I was across the track from the crash, it bothered me greatly.
My father told me, "either get over it, or you will stop going to races."
There are those who say, " he/she died doing what he/she loved most" honoring their loved ones who died.
Yet people like you try to turn that into some statement made by unintelligent or insane people.
If their magnificent sporting talents, are engaged in a pointless task to you, as my dad said, get over it, or stay away from it.
If you had said "their racing deaths bother me too much now, so I do not follow it" fine, one can appreciate that.
You said the equivalent of " their racing deaths bother me too much, they should stop doing it."
It is your narcissistic attitude I addressed. As much as it may bother you, you, and your attitude is better than none that post here.

they all know the danager.
It is their decision.
Leave the event alone.
People being solely responsible for their own actions. Now that's a shock.
Motor Racing became safer because the drivers wanted it,
Many Motorcycle GP riders did not like the TT so stopped doing it.
Barry Schene no,Mike Hailwood yes.It whatever makes their boat float.

Holy .... is that passenger fearless or did he not realize how close he'd just come to death?
Even the driver soiled himself in a big way, the passenger looked bored!

I suppose its like BASE jumping, its impressive and sure I'll admit I'd never have the balls to do it, but at the same time there is a point at which you lose control of your own fate(imagine getting a blowout or brake failure etc), so some of the flak leveled at Riders who do not want to compete is unfair, their abstention on safety grounds is more than justified, regardless how macho people chose to act.
