Somewhat short notice to viewers in the UK, but ITV4 (Freeview Channel 28) is scheduled to be showing 35 minutes coverage of the 2008 Le Mans test day at 13.55 today. Itappears that it will be repeated tomorrow (Sunday 8th) at 16.25.

does this mean that they will be showing the race as well?

this would save me watching it in Comet or Dixons again

It's a pity the rules now mean a diesel victory is assured as the petrol cars have both a power and range disadvantage.
The field has very much a 'sameness' about it that has existed now for about 10 years and predictable. The ACO have always been very much a law unto themselves in this.

Personally I would like to see a return to the roots of the event , when it started in 1923 it was an endurance test of road going sports cars. The LMP cars have too much performance both in power and downforce, allowing this to expand caused the chicanes and other layout changes to the circuit which for me has been detrimental to the magic of the event.
A fresh look at the shape of the entry and rules could greatly enhance the interest and impact and bring back many more car makers in a range of classes.Nice bloke though Henri Pescarolo is and it would be nice to see him win as a manufacturer a batch of his cars do not represent a test of the world's car marques.

It is still of interest but could easily be so much better these days.

They definitely need to ditch open top cars. If it doesn't have a roof, it's not a sportscar, imo.

Le Mans should be on Eurosport live this year, I reckon ITV4 will show some sort of highlight package at a later date.

To which bit are you referring, Ted? The TV broadcast, ditching open-top cars or the rules which legislate in favour of diesels?

Seems a funny definition of a sports car dismissing much of the events history.

LeMans qualifying: Saturday 14th, 4:35-5:10pm, ITV4

One assumes that if they're showing testing and qualifying there should be race highlights too sometime, maybe on the weekend of the 21st/22nd.

i'd expect eurosport to show highlights of the race for those of us that are actually going,i doubt the itv highlights will be very long nor very good, full of adverts and probably poor commentary-unfortunately it dusnt luk like eurosport will be doing any highlights, which quite frankly is pathetic really, daft that they've got the rights for the live coverage as well-motors tv last year had the 2 days of scrutineering (full of interviews all day) and all 4 qualifying sessions live-eurosport havent shown anything today or tomorrow even just in terms of interviews, theyre only showing 2 of the 4 qualifying sessions, and theres that many channel changes for the broadcasting of the 24hrs tht its just a joke

Even if Eurosport did show highlights, not all of us are lucky enough to have it hence my concentration on a Freeview channel. I agree it would be disappointing (and very strange) for Eurosport to not do their own extended highlights though.

Hear, hear. It's the only reason I'm rooting for Peugeot over Audi. And the Epsilon Euskadi cars are gorgeous.

So all the cabriolet like Shelby's Cobra, countless Porsche's, Audi's, ... weren't sport cars?

This flipping of cars is getting very scary. It wouldn't be a surprise at all if it happens during raceday :(

The Dome even more so. And surprisingly quick in qualifying too. Shame there's practically no chance it'll go the distance.

Shame the rules are such that Penske and the Acura boys from ALMS don't see any point in coming over and really making a race of it.

Qual will end soon. At the moment, there's the #10 Charouz that managed to stick its nose in 6th place on the grid, before the last of the Audi's... A Non-Diesel! (right?) Wonder if that will stick through to the end of the session.
