Ortelli scores first win for the new Renault Fluence
Posted Image

Guillermo Ortelli has taken the first win for the Renault Lo-Jack team's new Renault Fluence at San Martín, whilst Matías Rossi takes the championship lead for Toyota.
Former champion José María López led in the early stages in the Scuderia Pro Racing Fiat Linea, but retired with an overheating problem on lap 14, handing the lead over to Ortelli, who went on to take the win for the new Fluence in his first season with Renault.

Last year's Renault team leader Matías Rossi lept into second place one lap later, passing Mauro Giollambardo with the Sportteam Fluence of Guido Falaschi following through into third to deny an all Renault podium. Giollambardo dropped to fourth, but the strong result for Renault pulled them up to fourth place in the manufacturers championship ahead of Fiat.

Leonel Pernía was the best placed Honda driver in fifth ahead of Gabriel Ponce De León's Fiat Linea.

Rossi's second place moves him into the lead of the championship, despite no race victories so far this season with 63.5 points. Ford-YPF driver Juan Manual Silva, whom had finished in eighth place drops to second on 49 points, joint with Mariano Altuna.

Toyota Team Argentina now lead the manufactuers standings with 101 points, four points ahead of Ford-YPF going into the next round at San Juan in three weeks time.
01 Guillermo Ortelli 31 Laps

Different cars, yes... engines, no.

You guys from the south, I've just heard that the Brasileiro de Marcas (Copa Petrobrás de Marcas) had it's first race canceled and the second one postponed because of of delays on the engine front.

Any possibly related news from Berta?!

Btw, looks like the Toyotas will came to the Brazilian championship. Those Renaults could be of good use too.

As Highdownforce said, the cars are different (both chassis and bodies) but since last year they use a spec engine, currently Berta 4 cylinder 2.3 litres, 310 bhp aprox, thou next year they are suppossed to change them for V8 +400bhp ones.

Highdownforce: I've heard no news about problems with the delivery of the Copa de Marcas engines from Berta.

Not so.
For this year, in Brazil you will run with our old Chevrolet Astra, a former Pro Racing of Argentina, the 2007 season .. that's confirmed, and the cars are already in Brazil.

After that, probably in 2012 you will receive the 2010 Vectra, a former JP Racing Team, which here and were replaced by the new Cruze.,

And all this would be to think with greater optimism possible., the Brazilian championship started yet, and already had two very significant setbacks.,

Kind regards.,

RvB, sorry to be so late, but thank you for your answer. The Astras were confirmed a long time ago indeed, but for some reason I've thought that the Vectra's would be skipped altogether as the next season will coincide with the marketing for the Cruze model in Brazil. But I was obviously wrong.

And you're absolutely right about the setbacks, and I'll go even further because as far as I know only the Civic had a test day [ picture ]. And only because Honda is being prepared by Metal Moro (Ford will be prepared by them too), set in Rio Grande do Sul, and that already prepares the Linea for the Fiat series.

JL (Stock Car V8) is yet to show the Astras and the Corolla, that I'm not sure if it will actually race full season.

Mattías Rossi extends lead with win at San Juan

Posted Image

Posted Image

Matías Rossi has extended his championship lead at San Juan, taking his first victory with Toyota Team Argentina from pole position ahead of 2010 champion Norberton Fontana.
Toyota Team Argentina driver Matías Rossi and reigning champion Norberto Fontana in his Ford Focus shared the front row after winning their respective qualifying races in the morning. The two drivers had a great start when the lights went out, heading side-by-side into the first corner.

The racing line favoured the pole-sitter Rossi, which gave the Corolla the lead from Fontana, with Toyota's Mariano Werner slotting into third despite a scary tail-slide on the first lap.
A crash on the first lap eliminated Honda Racing driver Nestor Girolami and Fiat's Emiliano Spataro, but the race continued with no safety car interruption.
There was more pain for Fiat, as José María López's race ended early, with the Fiat Linea pulling to a stop on lap nine out of fourth place, promoting Honda's Leonel Pernía.

Gabriel Ponce De León took over as the top running Fiat driver after López's retirement in fifth, and the top five remained in place throughout the race. The TTA Corolla of Werner was right on the tail fighting to get second place from Fontana throughout all 34 laps of the race, waiting for a mistake from the Ford driver, but with no success.

The biggest fight was therefore from sixth position, with Guido Falaschi the top placed Renault Fluence driver. The independent Sportteam Renault driver drove the race looking in his mirrors holding off a multi-car train throughout.

Falaschi first held off Mariano Altuna's Honda Civic for several laps, and on lap 18 when Altuna tried to pass Falaschi around the outside, the Ford-YPF Focus of Juan Manuel Silva snuck up the inside and into seventh place past the Honda and behind the Renault.

It took Silva another five laps before he was able to pass Falaschi for sixth position. Altuna meanwhile had his hands full with the pair of Peugeot Cobra Team 307s behind him. Facundo Ardusso charged down the inside on lap 23, forcing the pair wide and the second 307 of Juan Cruz Alvarez was able to get ahead of both of them.

ANOTHER NASTY RACE FOR THE FIAT'S.., López and Spataro both DNF..

Posted Image

With two laps to go, the train behind Falaschi was growing bigger, with the Toyota of Bernardo Llaver, Ford's Fabian Yannantuoni and both the Chevrolet Cruzes joining the fight, but Falaschi held firm, losing just one spot to Alvarez's Peugeot and holding on to finish in eighth place.

Up front there was little to worry about, as Matías Rossi took a comfortable win, two seconds clear of Norberto Fontana. This was Rossi's first win since the 2010 season finale at San Luis with Renault, and the 27-year-old's first win with his new team Toyota Team Argentina.

Rossi extends his championship lead over 'Pato' Silva, as the series heads to Chaco for the next race in two weeks time.
01 Matías Rossi 34 Laps
02 Norberto Fontana +2.207
03 Mariano Werner +2.358
04 Leonel Pernía +12.957
05 Gabriel Ponce De León +15.384
06 Juan Manuel Silva +19.535
07 Juan Cruz Alvarez +23.426
08 Guido Falaschi +26.118
09 Mariano Altuna +26.817
10 Facundo Ardusso +26.8

Rossi won his qualfiying heat in the morning to secure pole for the feature race and had a good start, holding the lead into the first corner and leading all 41 laps of the race.

Rossi's team-mate Mariano Werner finished second, with the Honda Civic of Equipo Petrobras driver Leoneo Pernía on the final spot on the podium.

Chevrolet driver Christian Ledesma retired with mechanical problems whilst in fourth place, promoting Guillermo Ortelli up the order. A late battle between Ortelli and the Fiat Pro Racing driver Emiliano Spataro went badly for Spataro, with Spataro dropping places to finish in eighth.

Touring Car Times Magazine:
First career win for Canapino at Cordoba
Posted Image

Agustín Canapino has taken his first career victory at Cordoba in the 3M Argentinean TC 2000 Championship, and the first for Chevrolet's new Cruze race car.
Canapino had started from pole after setting the fastest time in qualifying and then winning the earlier first qualifying race, with José María López's Pro Racing Fiat Linea sharing the front row.

At the start, the two were side-by-side through the first few corners, before Canapino's Cruze won out, slotting into the lead with the inside advantage at Turn 6 on the 4.045km Autódromo Oscar Cabalén circuit.
Former championship leader Juan Manuel Silva crashed out on the first lap in his Ford-YPF Focus. The 38-year-old was right at the back of the field after a DNF in the earlier qualifying round.

On lap two, Christian Ledesma in the second Chevrolet Cruze moved into second place ahead of López's Fiat, and the two Chevrolets began to pull away, until the safety car was called on lap eight to recover Leonel Laurrari's Orbis Seguros Racing Civic, which had spun off the circuit.

Reigning champion Norberto Fontana's Ford was up to 17th at this point, passing 14 cars in the first seven laps.

At the restart, the Chevrolets again pulled away from the three chasing Fiats of José María López, Emiliano Spataro and Gabriel Ponce de León, with Juan Cruz Alvarez's Peugeot Cobra Team 307 fighting off Championship leader Matías Rossi's Toyota Corolla in sixth.

On lap 15, the second best positioned Toyota Team Argentina driver of Mariano Werner spun out of ninth place whilst battling with Equipo Petrobras Honda driver Mariano Altuna. Werner recovered to finish in 15th place at the end of the race.

On the same lap, Emiliano Spataro, seemingly held up by his Fiat team-mate Lopez, moved up to third, with López dropping behind both Spataro and Ponce de León.

Two laps later, Peugeot's Juan Cruz Alvarez attempted to pass López for fifth after a mistake from the two-times Champion, but Lopez managed to defend the place with Alvarez running wide off the circuit and falling behind Rossi's Toyota.

Spataro, now unleashed from behind Lopez, closed down the once three-second lead of the two Chevrolets, and was right on the tail of Christian Ledesma on lap 21.

Disaster struck for Norberto Fontana with three laps to go
, with the Ford Focus pulling off with fire blasting out from the car's side exhausts, and out of 15th place.
Up front, after four laps of pressure, Ledesma slid wide at Turn 6 with Spataro moving up to second. Ledesma rejoined in third and fought off the other Fiat of Gabriel Ponce de León to secure the final spot on the podium.

Posted Image

Spataro closed down on race leader Canapino, but couldn't catch the 21-year-old before the end of the race, with Canapino securing his first career victory, and the first for Chevrolet since Ledesma's win at La Rioja last year.
01 Agustín Canapino 28 Laps
02 Emiliano Spataro +0.672
03 Christian Ledesma +6.666

Fasachi takes win for Renault at Rio Hondo

Guido Falaschi took a shock win with the Renault Fluence at Rio Honda in the independent Sportteam entry, ahead of Christian Ledesma and José María López.
The Sportteam Renault led from start to finish, battling with the also new Chevrolet Cruze of Christian Ledesma in the early stages of the race.

It's the first time since 2005 that a privateer team has taken victory in the 3M Argentinean TC 2000 Championship.

The Ford-YPF team continue to lose ground, with early season points leader Juan Manual Silva down to seventh in the standings and reigning champion Norbert Fontana down in 13th, 92.5 points down on Rossi.

TC2000 with v8 2.7 litres, 430bhp spec engines for 2012. Controversy is strong, as the need to lower down costs as justification for spec engines is not valid anymore with teams complaining about how expensive TC2000 has become. HAZ Racing (Ford), EF Racing (Renault) and TTA (Toyota) were rumoured to leave (the teams, not the manufacturers apparently, which could continue with other racing squads). I think it's a real shame they're not coming back to multiple engine makers. With TC going for spec chassis and standarized engine parts in the near future, the Argentine main series are heading to an ashaming 'nascarization', being even more similar between each other.

Alain Menu and Rob Huff to race in Buenos Aires 200 Km
Posted Image

Chevrolet WTCC drivers Alain Menu and Rob Huff will take part in this year's Buenos Aires 200km during the short break in the WTCC season between Oschersleben this weekend and Valencia in September.
The famous Argentinean touring car race moves this year from the Autódromo Juan y Óscar Gálvez to the Autódromo Roberto Mouras in La Plata, around the Argentinean capital.

World Touring Car Championship leader Rob Huff will take part in the event for only the second time. Alain Menu will return to the event for the sixth time, and is a race which he won in 2006 when sharing with then Chevrolet driver Matías Rossi, whom now leads the championship with Toyota Team Argentina.
Huff and Menu will pair with the team's current drivers Agustín Canapino and Christian Ledesma in the team's new-for-2011 Chevrolet Cruze race cars, although they're nothing like the 1.6 litre turbocharged machines they drive in the WTCC.

Last year, Yvan Muller took part for the first time, finishing fifth on his first attempt, though will be giving the event a miss this year, with the Argentinean Chevrolet team only running two cars in TC 2000.

The race takes place this year on August 21st.

Werner & Guerrieri victorious at the Buenos Aires 200km

Toyota Team Argentina's Mariano Werner along with Esteban Guerrieri won the team's third consecutive Buenos Aires 200km race, whilst the retirement of championship leader Matías Rossi closes up the championship.

Werner and Rossi pulled away at the start, building up a lead on the third placed Honda Civic of Nestor Girolami. On lap 18, Rossi had to pit early with a steering problem and hand the car over to Martín Basso. Unfortunately the problem wasn't resolved, and the Corolla retired six laps later, which sees Rossi remain on 144.5 points in the TC 2000 standings.

The Fiat team went for an alternate strategy, with Diego Aventin starting the race in the No.37 Fiat Linea, with José María López doing the last stint on new tyres. The double champion caught Guerrieri, but wasn't able to pass the single seater expert, and had to settle for second.

Equipo Petrobras's Leonel Pernía and Omar Martinez finished on the final podium position, and with this result Pernía closes to just 15 points off of Toyota's Matías Rossi in the standings, with the other Toyota of Mariano Werner just six points further behind.

Ignacio Char along with Camilo Echevarría took his best finish in the series with fourth for Toyota, with the two Renault LoJack Team Fluences of Guillermo Ortelli/Luis José Di Palma & Mauro Giallombardo/Carlos Okulovich finishing fifth and sixth.

Emiliano Spataro and Cacá Bueno finished in seventh place in their Fiat Linea, with reigning champion Norberto Fontana with Marco Gomes taking the final spot in the top ten, despite Gomes earning the No.1 Ford-YPF Focus a drive through penalty after jumping the start.

A technical problem for the Chevrolet Cruze of Agustín Canapino and Rob Huff as the WTCC points leader was heading out to the grid saw Huff forced to start from the pit lane. Huff made up 20 positions from the back of the grid in the race, but unfortunately the car finally broke down soon after Canapino took over.

Alain Menu had started the other Chevrolet Cruze and was running well in the early stages, but a gearbox failure when the car was handed over to series regular Christian Ledesma meant the weekend was one to forget for the Equipo Oficial Chevrolet team.

The next round of the championship is at Trelew on September 11th.

Agustín Canapino has taken his second career TC 2000 victory at Trelew for Chevrolet ahead of Néstor Girolami, whilst a third place for Mariano Werner sees him close up in the championship standings.
Canapino won his qualifying heat in the morning to ensure a pole position grid spot, whilst Ford-YPF's Fabian Yannantuoni took the second sprint win to share the front row.

Equipo Petrobras driver Néstor Girolami started well from row two along with Mariano Werner to move up into second and third and chased down the 21-year-old Chevrolet driver from Arrecifes, Argentina.

There was a short safety car period on lap 14 as one of the independent Renault Méganes span out. At the restart, Peugeot Cobra Team driver Facundo Ardusso and Equipo Petrobras's Mariano Altuna made contact, both careering off the track whilst fighting for the outside of the top ten positions. The off dropped them down to the back of the pack, never to recover.

The two Fiat Lineas of Emiliano Spataro and José María López continued to battle hard for ninth place, with López clearly held up behind his team-mate. On lap 16 after a light tap to the rear of Spataro's Linea, López snuck through into ninth and closed in on Toyota driver Matías Rossi, but was unable to pass the championship leader before the finish.

Canapino went on to take the second victory both for himself and Equipo Oficial Chevrolet's new Cruze, with Girolami in second and Werner third.

With Werner finishing third, and championship rivals Leonel Pernía and Matías Rossi down in sixth and eighth respectively, Werner moves up to second in the standings, just seven points behind his Toyota team-mate.

The next round of the championship is at Tunin on October 2nd.

RADICAL PERFORMANCE ENGINES APPOINTED AS TC 2000 ENGINE SUPPLIER
The new Peugeot 408 with the V8 engine of Radical Racing Perfomances

Posted Image

Radical Performance Engines, the world’s foremost constructor of small-capacity racing engines, has been selected by TC2000, Latin America’s most advanced touring car series, as official engine supplier from 2012.
Radical Performance Engines will supply 42 units of its 2.7-litre TCX V8, the front-wheel-drive variant of RPE’s popular RPX engine. These will be mated to the championship’s Xtrac control gearbox, and fitted to all cars in the silhouette touring car series. The TCX will be used from the beginning of the 2012 season for at least three years.

TC2000 is Latin America’s most advanced touring car series, and is contested across 12 rounds in Argentina, including the Santa Fe street circuit, and Potrero de los Funes, a 3.8-mile circuit encircling Lake Potrero de los Funes. The series regularly attracts up to 30 cars per event, with representation from a range of marques, including Ford, Honda, Toyota, Fiat, Chevrolet, Peugeot, Renault and Volkswagen.

The RPE TCX engine develops 430bhp and up to 260lb/ft of torque, the 72° V8 cylinder, 32-valve quad-cam design incorporating racing-technology cylinder heads, mounted to a dedicated dry-sump crankcase. A flat-plane steel billet crankshaft transmits power to the gearbox, while a gear drive rotates the Formula One specification scavenge pumps, twin oil supply pumps and the coolant pump. RPE has constructed over 230 RP V8s since the engine’s launch in 2005, primarily for use in Radical’s SR8 racing cars, but also for applications as varied as autograss, hillclimbing, off-road and even jetski racing.

"RPE is proud to forge a new relationship with TC2000, bringing the performance, sound and reliability of the RP V8 engine to a new audience," said RPE director Ted Hurrell. "At only 88kg, the TCX V8 is one of the lightest and most cost-effective racing V8s on the market, and we look forward to supporting TC2000, at the same time reinforcing the RPE brand in Latin America."

Being from Argentina, I was a BIG fan of this series. Actually, it was THE series (along with F1) for me, way above the classic rival series TC.

I used the past tense because for me the series is dead. I don't care if they run V16 engines with quad turbos and 2000 HP. They have lost the essence, and most of the people think the same way.

The whole point of the series was to see the cars you were seeing on the street at the time, racing against each other. OFC they were tuned, and not exactly street cars, but at least they had their own engine, their own chassis, etc.

Now it's crap. You can't say "Honda won the race", cause it's not a Honda anymore, and that for me, is unacceptable.

Paradoxically, one of the best things that may happen for STC2000, in short time, is Cacá Bueno winning some races.
This will lead to more and more reports in Brazilian media.
