Some news from Nevers.

- Andy Soucek will stay at Super Nova, replacing Christian Bakkerud through the end of the season.

- BCN confirmed Carlos Iaconelli as a replacement for Milos Pavlovic for the rest of the season. The Brazilian comes from the first round of the 2008 Formula Masters, after running the 2007 World Series Renault with Pons. He'll pair Adrian Valles.

- Ben Hanley will be racing at Magny-Cours with Durango. The British driver will replace Davide Valsecchi, still recovering from the back injury resulting from his Istanbul crash. RDD (Renault Drivers Development) is still in talks with the Italian team, though the deal seems done. Valsecchi is expected to be back at Silverstone.

So Senna versus Grosjean, ISport vs ART. Sounds oddly familiar. Pantano's in third and looking like he just might finally win a major single seater title this year. Filippi still failing to feature. Lucas Di Grassi further up the order than I expected but then Campos is a serious team these days. Maybe Renault figure they may as well keep their Junior driver options open as Piquet does not look the real deal any more.

Diego Nunes perhaps also worth a mention - 15th may be nothing to shout about but in a DPR machine its respectable. Hadn't really heard of him before he popped up in GP2 Asia, anyone know more?

Disappointed by Asmer's lack of pace - he'd looked really quick in British F3 but then I suppose the opposition wasn't up to much. Parente, too, is nowhere, after winning the opening round. Seems very hit and miss in terms of pace as a driver.

He was runner-up at Euro and Italian F3000 last year.

Senna crashes to pole position

Bruno Senna took pole position in the most dramatic way possible this afternoon in Magny-Cours by crossing the line a fraction of a second before hitting the wall heavily after bouncing over the kerbs in the final complex, claiming the top spot fractionally ahead of Romain Grosjean and Giorgio Pantano.

LOL Don't think uncle Ayrton was thinking this when he talked about finding the limit and going further...

In fact the Autosport article says Ayrton did grab a spinning pole in 1991, but I don't remmember and can't find any footage.

I had a good lap going and then had a bit of a wild entry into the chicane, I used a bit too much kerb on the left before entering it and I thought I could get away with it and I was carrying some good speed, but when I hit the kerb on the right I just lost the car and I completely lifted to try and save the car: there was no point on taking pole and crashing! But unfortunately I just couldn't really recover the car: I was sideways and just went into the wall. Fortunately I was quick enough for pole position but I prefer to do it the classic way, with four wheels attached the car next time!"

The Ayrton tale is a bit of a myth; he firstly wasn't on pole in 1991 (he was 3rd) and from the season review video, the reason he spun wasn't anything to do with it being the quickest line, but the fact Olivier Grouillard had just dumped a load of oil on the track in the Fondmetal. But still an amusing coincidence!

Hmm, this shunt is hugely reminiscent of famous Monaco-scandal, though obliviously no malevolent behaviour from Senna here. I reckon a couple of drivers were deprived of their ability to finish a timed lap?

Grosjean leads from Pantano.
Senna was leading from Pantano but Grosjean was very fast during the pitstops and passed them. Senna then retired with a car problem. Di Grassi is third.

Grosjean passed only Pantano at the pitstop. He passed Senna on track but I think that only because Senna's problems.

Now Pantano is pushing Grosjean.

Yes. I meant during the pitstop period. I thought it was because of Senna not quite being up to speed after his stop but it might have been an early sign of his car problem.
Panatano is right behind Grosjean. Grosjean made a mistake but then Patano made a mistake trying to capitalise on the mistake (I think) so all even.

In terms of results it wasn't a good weekend, but it was a really good showing.
He seems to me that he got the grip now in car racing and he is really a hard charger.

Strange race, too many incidents. No points for Pantano, Grosjean. Bruno should have finished with more points. but for technical issues.

I think overall Yelmer Buurman was more consistent pace wise in changing conditions (?), although Mr. Buemi beat him and won.

Most importantly: Petrov's MILF on the pitwall. :kiss:

Compared to Pantano's luck today Bruno should be very happy with the result. An eventful weekend for Senna anyway.
A good race to see only because of the weather conditions. With dry track on the saturday race... boring...
Buurman really showed good skills in this situation, specially as a rookie. Di Grassi in points in both races deserves a note too.

Let's see in Silverstone.

Was a bit disappointed that Parente's car broke - given he started race 1 from the very back of the grid. I thought he'd done a good job of recovering and salvaging some points from the weekend up to that point.

Feeling vaguely smug as I sat before the start thinking that if I had cars on the grid, they would bedefinitely be on slicks, although my thinking involved a safety car bunching things up - which turned out not to be necessary.

Buurman looked quicker in the wet, which surprised me, but Buemi didn't seem to have much trouble reeling him in once it dried.

Looking like its going to be Senna vs Grosjean vs Pantano for the title now, despite the appalling luck of the first 2 this weekend.

Yeah. He didn't have much luck this weekend. Qualifying was disastrous, then he recovered very well on race 1, was about to get a nice podium on race 2, benefiting from a good strategy and despite 2 or 3 sloppy mistakes, but then the car blown up. Not good for his championship hopes.

Buurman had a more wet-friendly setup, maybe? It surprised me as well, but maybe Buemi was losing time due to having to defend his position from Parente - he impressed me a lot there, nice defending. Buemi is finally starting to look like a real driver.

Oh boy, she was a legend when she hosted and commentated F1 on Russian TV some years ago. She was not only completely incompetent as F1 pundit but also unbelievably biased.

She is Petrov's manager AFAIK.
