If he thinks its the truth then I have no problem. He may well be right. I didn't start this as a LH bashing thread, I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts/insight as to why Bernie would 'stir it up'.

That would be aimed at all the new fans that Lewis has brought to the sport: you think Lewis is good? watch those other two!!

He´s a promoter. It´s his job to stir the pot and create interest.

Now now!! I just said there is doubt about Lewis vs. Fernando, and that it's not credible that Bernie really thinks Kubi would "blow away" (as in, be a lot lot faster than) Lewis.

Bearing in mind that Bernie was going nuts in Brazil, first saying how much better LH was going to be as wdc than KR/FA, then afterwards laying into McLaren for their idiot tyre strategy.

Personally I think they're all terrific, I'm really looking forward to the competition.

I'm sorry, after seeing Kubica struggle to beat Nick for two years running, it's a tall ask to expect Kubica to blow Lewis away. BMW built a really fine machine this year and Kubica's handling it better than Nick, in qualifying, at least.

Truth be told, however, it's hard to judge driver's speed. I though Montoya was pretty damned good until he got waxed by Raikonnen. Thought Kimi was pretty good, but he's failed to dominate Massa. If Schumi was in that Ferrari, he'd have won at least 4 races already. Despite the fact that I don't have the powers to "foretell," that's not being unreasonable at all. The ferrari is a rocket.

That being said, Kubica's in the lead because he'd been rock solid and hasn't made the comedy of errors his competitors have made all season long. BI don't think he is faster than Lewis or FA. The Jury's out on Kimi because it's clear that he's struggling in Qualies, while usually faster in the races. I thought he'd be good enough to have solved those problems by now, but with talk about potential retirement next year, it's clear he's not dedicated enough.

We'll see where Kubica ends up, year end!

I think you are right. Bernie has a great habit of saying things that no-one else would get away with - He is the master at it. Maybe he is also trying to put Hamilton in his place a bit. I think the media (even in the UK) are starting to see a driver get above himself a bit. Lewis is a tremendous talent but I think his attitude lately is starting to wind the F1 circus up a bit.

Kubica is the flavor of the day. We'll see if people still rate him as the best after he had suffered one or two DNFs.

Lewis is in so many ways the answer to Bernie's prayers. The only thing slightly missing so far this year is a really hot rivalry, Bernie is putting some pieces in place...

Fernando in a Ferrari is a sure fire fix for that problem next year , also Kubi is a dominant driven character who is bound to fall out with Lewis and/or Fernando if they're in comparable cars.

I don't think Bernie minds Lewis acting the star, quite the opposite I suspect .

I'm not trying to argue Lewis is faster. I'm just saying whatever differences there are between them, Bernie can't seriously believe he's miles slower than the others. So, that tells us he's saying things for effect, as he does.

Bernie on Kimi: His hunger for the wins is not big enough.

Depends if it's mechanical or driver error. I agree it wouldn't matter in terms of people's perception as results count more then how you got them in F1, sadly.

I think the most telling part of that article is the bit about "...77..." It says a lot about a mans judgement and ideals.

When buttonholed and asked a good question, Bernie says what comes out. And he's not dumb.

Several drivers, if planted into Ferrari or McLaren equipment, would plaster the competition like Tyson in his glory years.

Not gonna happen, so no need to worry.

I think Bernie just enjoys making controversial comments.

I'm not sure about Kubica but he is spot on with his remarks about Fred and Lewis.

He needs Alonso in a competitive car for marketing, F1 prestige and good TV ratings and I think he might be worried that Alonso will not be in a top car again next year - either that or he's just giving his opinion.

not really 2 years was it? In 2007 ok, but in 2006 he only drove 6 races and then he was showing to be faster than Nick (not fully reflected in the results though).

I really feel that Kubica has fully settled in this season and found his feet although I think he is benefiting from the car suiting his style of driving more than it is NH.
I do agree that MS would probably have won 4 races by now but as we all know he was ALWAYS shown preferance over whichever No2 driver he was with - that's not the case with KR or FM.

Sounds like tires is the bigger issue, last year Nick was fine with them, this year it's Robert. After all we're talking a spec formula here aren't we? Basically there is little technical difference between marques, mentally I just see them as EXTREMELY expensive Formula Fords or think of a Spec Formula you relate too. It takes a pretty musical ear to differentiate one from another.
