In the last 4 races , we had the lead of WDC move from Kimi to Hamilton to Kubica and today to Massa . YET the season for some reason is not exciting , as in the sense i am not waiting impatiently for the next race. In fact i did not even see today's race - followed it on the net . Why is it not interesting ?

Is it because we don't really feel for the current drivers - Massa / Kubica - even Kimi and Lewis as we did for Schumi / Mika etc ?
Is it because so many fans feel that Mclaren are shafted time and again ?
Is it too long that a team is dominant - Ferrari since 1999 ?
Is it because the FIA needs new blood in terms of a new president ?

Why are so many people dissatisfied today despite 4 drivers and 3 teams so close in a championship ??

I really love this season so far. Almost a bit like 1997, but even more evenly matched.

Same. I've not been bored at all. Once you've become heavily emotionally invested in the fortunes of a driver or team you'll never be bored again...

First of all, FIA has to change the points system so that being consistent would't mean that much. Otherwise we will have champs like Kubica who are boring as hell :)

Maybe you are right . Maybe the last 2 seasons have killed my appetite for more and I don't anymore have the patience to sit out till 2010 to start winning again after Max has left FIA and the stupid witch hunt stops. I guess that really my problem.

I just think we have the lack of passing and really good close battles...You might see one for a lap or two but then it fades..

You hit the nail in the head there.

Whoever thinks this WDC is boring is surely having some issues, to put it nicely.

This season has been OK so far.... but I have to admit I fell asleep on the couch after about 10 laps today.

Monaco was great in the rain.

Canada was unpredictable after the first SC.. nice to see a first win for Kubica.

France was a good race, not superb in any way, but overall a good race with good fighting. I take it you considered Trulli vs Kovalainen "boring".

I like this season a lot. The main bugger is of course lack of proper overtaking. Almost all of it comes from front gunners fighting with cars they don't normally fight, but having to do so because of penalties. Still, we get better races than in 2007.

Didn't watch Monaco
canada - Thought Lewis was screwed by the SC in the sense his 6 sec lead wiped out and then his brain fade. Don't feel for Kubica
Did not watch France

Perhaps you need to find another sport. F1 is clearly not doing it for you. I never miss a race (though if I have something on I'll download it and watch later) so guess I'm addicted.

Comments like that help no one.
I am enjoying this season but I cant say I have ever found F1 boring! To be objective about it though, as you have said, we have had different drivers leading the championship, we have seen a number of upsets, a number of 'strange' decisions by stewards, some great overtaking manoeuvres, a very close midfield group, I could go on but you may get bored! So that for me makes this season a good one

yeah that was fun, f1 has moments where its great... but say world superbikes, has tough fights like trulli and kova nearly every lap...

turkey was good, nice and tense

Probably:
1. We are getting older. We would always be spoiled by remembering the good old days.
2. Today's racing may lack the alpha male that produces memorable performance. Mainly due to we are keeping to good old days, when Senna / Schumacher etc. produced memorable performance, especially in wet races.

Hotwheels I think you are completely wrong! This season is just FANTASTIC, there are two young guns with extreme talent: Kubica and Hamilton, and imho they can be as good as Hakinnen or Schumacher. There are also some other great drivers still under 30 like Kimi and Fernando.

For me looking at drivers it's one of the most competetive season form many, many, many years.

Maybe it's because we know Ferrari are going to win in the end. At least some of us know. :) Maybe if I could clear that thought out of my head it'd be more interesting.

It might be colored by last year as well...last year's WDC was more lost by braindead mistakes than it was won by brilliant on-track driving. This year it's sort of similar. The only way it looks like the red cars won't be on top is if their drivers put their heads up their arses, or if someone else takes them out. Either way, it seems to be more of a question of not losing, than it is a question of winning.

Such threads are flourishing every year after French GP, it is inevitable, as France always associates with boredom (I mean, in terms of F1).

No season can be worse than morbid 2000-2004 seasons of domination.

No pun intended with domination.

Agreed. For me there no season will ever beat 1991. The cars looked awesome and you had Senna, Berger, Mansell, Patrese, Prost, Alesi, Schumacher and Piquet all in action. And de Cesaris having his best ever season...

For me its not just about who is going to win but what happens further down the field. I often have this argument with friends that are not 'into' F1. They just don't get it that its not just about who wins.

Good point...the midfield can be interesting, but it seems like the same argument (that it's more about not losing rather than winning) applies there too. Somehow I'm caring less about the midfield lately too...used to love to follow the Jordans, but now I just can't seem to generate much caring about the midfield. It did suck to see Sutil get punted though...

I understand what you are saying. The midfield teams nowadays have less 'soul' to them. I think most fans liked to see a Jordan or a Minardi fighting for points.

I'm finding it boring because 50% of the appeal of the cars in the last few years has been the technical developments between races...now, we get very minor aero developments (that make the cars look ever uglier) and nothing else. It's a bloody spec series now.

Also, without the draw of a legend driver, it doesn't have as much appeal.

Hasn't the appeal always been the tech developments between races?

The only thing I don't like is the reliability. Today only one car failed to finish (Button), and that was through car damage. I used to like the variable of an occasional blow up.

I think this season is actually more interesting than some previous ones. Though today's race was boring thanks to the stupid penalties. I agree with whoever said that it's because we all know that Ferrari will win in the end. I don't watch F1 to see a foregone conclusion.

The years from 1985 to 1991 spoiled me as far as excitement is concerned. We had Senna, Prost, De Angelis, Mansell, Piquet all fighting it out in their Williams, McLarens, and even Lotus were there...I miss them so much... Of course Ferrari were not really a factor back then...in fact they were so bad they even caused Mansell to announce his "retirement" in 1990! Ah those were the days...gone but not forgotten...

The reason for that is the cars are designed less on the edge now because of the multi race gearbox/engine rules. A backwards move IMO.

So... in short, the thread is: "I didn't watch half of the races, but the whole 2008 season is boring".

the reason it feels boring is that everyone is expecting that sooner or later kimi will lead in dominance.

Another jaded pessimistic rant, and this time it doesn't even make sense. Sure it's hard to overtake, the races are a bit predictable after Saturday and all, but that's been the case since pretty much the start of the decade. And on that side (quality of racing) it has actually been better than last year. On the WDC standings it has been even closer than last year which was already insanely close.

Anyone who says this season is boring should be tied to a chair and then forced to watch the 2002 and 2004 races in full. Then lets hear what they have to say.

And that's what I was getting at. Now basically they just show up on the Thursday before a race, unpack the "F1-car-in-a-box" and send some young'un out to race it, come back in then pack it away for the next race. I miss the days when they handled them like volatile chemicals and run the risk of big explosions, just to get those last few tenths out of a lap.

I guess it's a matter of preference then. I personally want to see all cars finish.
