Judging from the responses in the Scarab Reunion thread several of you folks planning to attend this event next month know each other already. Is there any interest in seeing if we can arrange a meet-and-greet sometime during the weekend? Perhaps breakfast at the track one morning? Or Siebkins around the Race Car Concours Friday night?

The F5000 Reunion will have a special tent near St. John The Baptist food stand. There will also be a music concert there Saturday at the end of day with Neverly Brothers, a '50s, British Rock cover band. Also in the tent will be about 15-25 of the top F5000 drivers and crew chiefs from the day. Paul Dudiak, a McKee F5000 driver is one of the main organizers along with Eric Haga. It's right near the main paddock and the main restroom and showers. The HGP Tent will probably be in the same area, so will the the Green Packer players from Super Bowl I and II.

Here is an email I got from Eric Haga just over a week ago about F5000 drivers from the day...
"...Looks like I'll have Gus Hutchison, John Gunn, George Wintersteen, Lou Sell, Sam Posey, Elliott Forbes-Robinson, Stewart Forbes-Robinson, Brian Redman, Tony A2z, Graham McRae, Lyle Forsgren, Jerry Entin, Dan Furey, Davey Jordan, Kurt Reinhold, and the list goes on! Still making calls and sending email. Should be a great time!..."

As will the Scarab tent! It is going to be a VERY full weekend! I will be dividing my time between the Scarab and F-5000 tents. The track program for the weekend is going to press soon, and it has a four page history of F-5000, illustrated with nine period photos, all by me. When you say at the end of the day Saturday, do you mean this is going to conflict with the concours in Elkhart Lake? I'd hate to have to choose attending one or the other.
Also, noticed your name on the entry list. Looking forward to seeing your March!

The Packers should be there most of Saturday and Sunday, so no they it won't just be in the evening. When the final logistics are worked out I will post them here since I am the organizer of the portion of the event. It's sort of like organizing the Prom! As they say no good deed goes unpunished, they're great guys you've going to enjoy meeting them.

Yes, unfortunately a lot of choices will have to be made Saturday evening as there will be the concert etc connected with the F-5000 reunion, the banquet at the Osthoff for the Scarab reunion, the concours in downtown Elkhart Lake, and who knows what else. Fortunately everything is pretty close, downtown is less than 2 miles from the track. The Ostoff and the Concours are literally just a few 100 yards from each other.

It is always busy when you get there. Trying to remeber all of the things to do requires a planner on site! The F5000 tent will have some of the cars but like at Wine Country we will have quite a few in other pits because of team support not being able to support them so the cars will be spread around.

While I'm thinking of it, I talked to Sid Hoole at Monaco. He said they are restoring a King Cobra. Do you know about that? Here is the website for Hoole Racing:

Yes I sure do. In fact it's my job to coordinate with Sid on the work. My friend owns the Bondurant King Cobra and Sid is going to have someone over there build the body. It's all very exciting. Sid is a great fellow to deal with, very busy though with preparing cars for vintage racing.

Yeah no kidding! I talked to him right after Monaco and he was really upset about that. It was one of those "no one has ever had a problem with them before" sorts of deals.

I didn't get all the details, but 10-15 V8 cars that Sid prepared for Monaco were disallowed because of the MSD ignitions on them. After some discussion they were allowed to run but their results were not officially recorded. Evidently Monaco has its own rules for this sort of thing. I'm sure others here know more about it than I do.

I've never gone before and it looks like we could actually make it this year. Any particular places to stand, things to see, places to eat?

I haven't done the parade. The concours generally is downtown near Siebken's (Lake Street, I believe) and on the streets surrounding, winding toward the Osthoff. Parking is readily available on the town streets, provided you don't block driveways (Duh!) and don't mind walking a few blocks. Elkhart Lake is tiny--just follow the crowd.

The Friday race car parade runs from the track on Hwy 67 into downtown Elkhart Lake. Some view it from outside of town on 67, while I prefer to go downtown and watch the cars arrive. That is where most people will be. We typically set up a picnic directly across the street from Siebkens. But you can stand anywhere downtown and get a good view.

Duncan did a beautiful job of keeping this ex Interscope Lola in top form all weekend long. Roger Williams got a first in the qualifying race on Saturday and drove to a great second place on Sunday. Against a very large and strong field of F-5000 cars.

Oscar Koveleski congradulating Jay Esterer on his fine win in the CanAm race.
Jay Esterer had a very nasty shunt in his Formula 5000 McRae and drove the weekend with a badly hurt leg. He did a great job of bringing his McLaren Mk 8 home in first place at Elkhart Lake. Jay is a credit to Vintage racing and does a beautiful job of presenting his car.

This is inside the F-5000 tent. Gus Hutchison recieved a medallion for his contribution to F-5000 racing, this was from the F-5000 association. His lovely wife Susan came to the event with Gus.

Ike Smith and a surprise guest at the Kohler races.
Next to the surprise guest are Peter Bryant and Dan Lipetz.
In this picture are Ike Smith and Linda Peterson, Linda is Chuck Parsons daughter, and Peter Bryant and Dan Lipetz. Peter Bryant and Ike Smith worked with Linda's dad in the day.
Ike Smith was helping Dan Lipetz run his beautiful Lola T-222 on the weekend. Dan finished a fine 3rd in the CanAm qualifying race on Saturday. On Sunday while pulling his car up to the pre grid. Boom! his brakes went to the floor. This happened out of the clear blue. Dan started the race hoping they would pump up. This was not to be.
He was forced not to be able to run due to the car having no brakes.

George Follmer and his good friend Juan Gonzalez
Juan Gonzalez was driving the CanAm Shadow and George Follmer was giving him some advice. Juan did a very good job of driving and his crew had his cars in perfect condition for the races. On the side is crew member Leo Quipoha.

This racing group goes by the name Car Amigo and they are Dave Cancilla and Leo Quipoha and Teo Viera. Their driver is of course Juan Gonzalez.

Thank you so much for the pictures and giving us an idea of what we missed. I would liked to have been there, at least to meet My Great Friend Tom (RAH) if nothing else. I really want to get back to Elkhart Lake & Road America some time soon, especially after I realized just how long it had been since I my last visit. Whatever one might think about historic/vintage racing itself, there is one thing that does seem to be be commonly agreed upon -- it gives people an excuse to be there....

Don: As you have said, this picture tells the story. Here are two buddies who haven't seen each other in 30 years. They were overjoyed to get together.
I haven't told about the F-5000 tent yet. To say it blew people away is an understatement. They had food and drinks and a really great rock and roll band. And the greatest friends and fans in the world were present. You really missed a joyous time.

Steven Hilton meeting Linda Peterson.
As I have said earlier Linda's father, Chuck Parsons raced this Lola in 1968 on a team with Skip Scott run by Carl Haas. Steven is the current owner. This was Linda's first Vintage race. She is coming to Monterey next.

Seb Coppola and his Lola F-5000 car.
Seb Coppola and his wife Mary and Paul Dudiak and his wife Sandy were the driving force behind the F-5000 tent. It was a great success. Even though it was nearly torn apart in a huge storm on Wednesday night. You would have never know it survived a storm. It was the most well run show I have ever seen. Mark Harmer and Bruce Lesson and Eric Haga are also the main thrust behind the F-5000 Association.

Ike and Doug were running the ex Craig Bennett driven Lola T-222 of Dan Lipetz this weekend. They were having trouble with the gear shifting mechinisum. As a matter of fact. Dan Lipetz had the gear shift knob break off in his hand. Craig got in the car and I would say in 2 seconds knew what was the matter. The clutch was engaging over center. He repaired it in a flash. I told Dan Lipetz's dad Harry not to worry, they fixed it under warranty.
